I was kind of meh on the pilot. If this were an Alias/Lost grand conspiracy serial show I wouldn't stick with it, but I'll check out a few episodes to see what the regular show is like.

You also have to keep in mind fans of AGT have been following that show for quite some time now and they are getting close to the end of the season. If you watch it, this is where the good really starts getting good...they are narrowing down to the best of the best.
So don't dog on the fans of the show, dog on Fox for treating another show like crap by putting up against a time slot it can't possibly win in. It has nothing to say about the quality (or lack thereof, if that's your stance) of Fringe. It just goes to show there are loyal fans of AGT.

Probably the same place where Fringe got part of their inspiration: comic books. Both are cases where they're trying a unique way of presenting text onscreen; I honestly have no idea why a two-second shot of floating text bothers you so much.

I thought the text was kind of neat, but it did cross the line from interesting to distracting a couple of times. Like when they showed the text for Baghdad Iraq over the city and then cut to a reverse shot of the choppers flying over/behind the giant B.

There was a TV commercial that used that floating text concept in a funny way; people onscreen would walk into the text and it would be revealed as actual physical letters suspended on ropes or cords. Can't remember the product; haven't seen the advert lately.

I really enjoyed this pilot episode. This show has potential. I'm curious though...Russo's radio transmission has been broadcasting about the same amount of time as Bishop's lab has been dormant. Coincidence? Who knows...

^Yes, they added a few small scenes/dialogue bits here and there. The aired version was better than the screener IMO. AICN gave a short rundown of differences http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38263

This was a very anticipated show for me, but I have to admit that I found it pretty unengaging. The opening was really cool, but after that, I just felt oddly detached and bored. I ended up shopping on my laptop while this was playing. I can't decide if it was the show or my mood, so I haven't deleted it yet. Just can't decide whether I want to devote the time to try to watch it again.

Finally watched this... was *NOT* impressed by any shakes of the wee-wee. Started out kinda interesting, then began a gradual slide into indifference, boredom, and finally I shut the damn thing off. Didn't like *any* of the actors, the story moved too slow, no hook, no grab, no nothing.

It was the 1st fricking episode, give it time to grow. If your not easily entertained and get bored fast, then move on and find other things to watch. I understand that a heavily hyped show like this is bound to draw alot of negative criticism, but the actors and writers can only grow from here on out. I think Anna Torv will only get better as the series progresses.
But, if you enjoyed it, like I did, then support it and watch it every week.
I would rather keep another scripted show on the air with some money going into it, than tempt the networks to greenlight more Greatest American Dog or Hole in the Wall Game Shows that only cost pennies to produce.

I thought Anna Torv was great. Jackson was just a compilation of one liners, he is the one that needs to be given time for his character to grow. He added nothing to the plot. It won't be long before they emphasize the Torv/Jackson thing.
The all too evident episodic nature is what I am worried about. As easy as it is to pick up an episodic show, it is just as easy to drop it. I dropped House this season, because of the strong episodic formula.
I will watch Fringe, good or bad.

I don't think I have ever read a negative criticism of a show by you. You are a TV fan and that is not a bad thing, but analysis of shows to many is often as much fun as watching them.

I actually agree with you on Jackson. The sweetheart thing and most of his dialogue were all cheesy 1-liners.
Mainly I like and appreciate scripted drama and appreciate it when a studio puts the time and money to invest in a show like this. But, I know that not everyone can be pleased.

I think I missed a big plot point. What sent them to the storage facility in the first place?
I remember the scene in HQ where a gov't guy said that someone saw 2 Middle Eastern guys hand a White guy a briefcase, and then the chief sent Torv to check it out. Did the exchange happen at the storage unit and how did that tie into the plane spooge?
Do you think that Torv was sent on purpose? After the exchange at the end between Torv & the chief, it seemed almost like he had been testing her all along.

The pilots for Alias, The X-Files, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, and just about every other recent hit I can think of in the sci-fi realm all had much more engaging/interesting pilots than FRINGE.

Much like all of Heroes its pilot was garbage, so it shows that a show that starts out bad and continues to be bad can stick around. Not that I think that applies to Fringe mind you, it wasn't a great pilot, but it wasn't a bad pilot.

And this show isn't inspired by comic books. It's inspired by the X-Files.
