Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

None of the contestants have tried to show any leadership qualities like they did early on in the other seasons. I guess we'll find out who passes the grade in the next episode.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

After last night I thaught Danny & Paula were pretty even but clearly she won it with that challenge. When 76% of world class chef's think you have the better dish that's huge. Danny blew it!

PS Looks like there were some fireworks in the limo between Jean-Phillipe & Paula in the limo

I think Paula is a leader but she does without yelling and screaming and she's clearly a great chef. I don't think Ramsay ever said anything bad about everything she's cooked all season to my knowledge.

Yeah I honestly can't think of more than 1 or 2 times all season he even criticized her. I mean Christina won last year and she got ripped on multiple times every week it seemed. Paula has done practically nothing wrong all season.

Danny's good too, but Paula is OBVIOUSLY the best of this bunch.

It was obvious that the Andrea train was pulling into the station this episode unless either Paula or Danny suffered a stroke ....

Danny almost stroked out standing up there while having his food slammed on by the chefs. He was pale as a ghost and covered in baloney sweat. I thought for sure he would at least pass out.

Andrea reaming out Scott was one of the best moments ever in Hell's Kitchen

Yeah, I hate Scott and it was nice to see Andrea tear a him a new hole.

I think it's pretty obvious who is going to win now. I don't think Danny stand a chance.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

My gf and I like sous chef Scott, and we hated Andrea, so hearing him talk shit on her was hilarious.

They set this episode up as a fail for Danny so hard that we were convinced he was going home. SO glad he didn't.

But, really, this is Paula's to lose... and she ain't fuckin' it up.

What was up with that and the cheesy editing of it?

I must admit the clean the TV screens punishment while Paula shows up on a TV show was pretty well done. Unless they are going for a massive surprise and are really trying to dupe the audience, the way they edited makes it seem like the finale is a foregone conclusion.

And it seemed like Andrea was yelling for the sake of yelling and it was merely an attempt to impress Ramsey as opposed to actually trying to turn out quality food - that's not leadership, it's selfishness.

I think she was going for broke, and needed one thing to set her apart from the other two, being that they were clearly better chefs. While it was obviously overdone, you can bet that Danny's weakness in that position will be in Ramsay's mind when he makes the final decision.

I'm sad this is coming to an end.

I wonder if we will find out if Robert ended up ok health wise.

Arrrggghh!! I really didn't want to see Lacey again. From the looks of it the other chefs didn't want to either.

Oh, and when are they going to start doing the 2 contests a year thing?

Isn't it funny that Danny has such a huge ego, and yet is so likeable, for some reason?

I'm rooting for Danny too, that egotistical bastard.

That finale was so lackluster. I don't think I cared at all by the end of it.

Liked both, so I didnt really have a favorite to win, Though Dannys Restraunt looked pretty tacky with the fish on the walls. I do though really like how they do the finales and finding out who won with the doors,

I still like the show, but it's the SAME thing every single time. I mean there's always a couple absolutely terrible chefs that stay around for dramatic purposes. They always do a blind taste test. Every season one team member goes over to the other side. Every challenge always comes down to the last vote. And so on and so on.

Like I said, I still enjoy the show, but I really think it needs to be revamped somehow.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

WOW! I'm surprised Danny won. I really thaught after last week Paula had this thing locked up. To be honest they were both pretty equal!

Danny is a good chef but his "I'm a prodigy I'm a prodigy" is lame!

I really liked Paula's calm demeanor more but I'm sure she'll be offered tons of oppurtunites after this show!

I will miss the show until next year but at least Big Brother is just around the corner

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

I have to concur - this show is just tired. I'd like to see them refresh it, perhaps do a show where they bring back people that actually had a shot and didn't win from previous years, and run it a bit more 'professional' and less 'fox'. Bring Julia from 2 seasons ago back, bring back the chick that fucked up her ankle this year, the runners-up from previous years, and bring in the chefs that won to judge. I mean, this show will never be Top Chef, but it can be better than this.

I still love Gordon, but the US shows never have been nor will they be as good as the BBC ones. I'd love to see a real US version of the F-Word, one that isn't overly fucked by Fox, but I'm sure that will never happen. More JP is not a bad thing...

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

Well, that certainly surprised me. Paula seemed to have this locked for a while now, so I didn't see it coming. I've been rooting for Danny, so I was glad to see him win. Dude was stoked.

I'm also agree that the show needs a serious revamp for next season. It's all so very predictable that the only thing that seriously surprised me was Danny winning.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

Ugh. This episode was starting to turn into the Lacey show. God she sucks. I was annoyed with the editing too. So they push all of their entrees out and it's like they're done? Hello? What about the desserts they spent so much time showing Lacey screw up?

After some of the bellyaching the discarded chefs expressed during this episode, I wonder if they'll reconsider that tact next time. Seriously, Lacey or Gio could have done in either chef in the final service by accident or on purpose for lack of caring.

One of the biggest errors is unlike on the FOX shows on the BBC versions Ramsay himself does all the narration (Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares). I think that makes the show come off much less hokey, and we hear Ramsay's actual insights instead of overly dramatic scripted dialog explaining what we just saw with our own eyes.
