I don't know about White Trash Wigger Fat Ass.

Last season was Matt, who was fat but annoying. Didn't act like white trash or a wigger. Year before that was that cowboy Asian guy. Fat, but not a wigger fat ass.

Who else was there? I don't recall ever seeing one like him before.

Worse season yet by far. There is no one to root for or against, they are all just so bland that I still don't know half of the names on the contestants.

And the cake drop was ridiculously scripted.

Ya, that Jean Phillipe thing was ridiculously staged. Ridiculously.

the eliminations are going to be manipulated so that Lacey has to return to the red team. So expect another red team member to go home next week

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Either that or they send a man over to the woman's team to engineer more drama.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

Am I wrong or does every "prize challenge" where the teams cook head to head always come down to the last dish? Blue wins first, red second, and then the deciding dish. Unless they have the kid judging it out and out lie (which is very possible), he must have pre-tasted the dishes and then they had him do it for the camera in the most dramatic order.

I'm trying to think back on any challenge (cutting meat, scallops, etc) that didn't end up coming down to the last person. I've never heard Ramsay say, "Well there's no point in counting/tasting/inspecting any more because you mathematically can't win."

I was thinking the exact same thing after the last episode. It's really getting ridiculous.

Yes i have watched every season in the last month and all of those cook offs do go down to the wire

The more i see Ramsay's TV shows, the more i see how much is scripted and rigged but they are entertaining so you can't ask for me

Kitchen Nightmares is just as scripted

That sucks but you can't blame Ramsay. The UK version is great.

I'll have to check out the UK version of Hell's Kitchen. Has anyone seen it?

A member at youtube has most of the episodes posted of HK UK. HK UK is a celebrity contest(most of the celebrities are from British TV shows) and they actually aired the dinner service on live TV. Then it was up to a viewer vote as to who goes home. Just like the UK version of KN, I prefer this version of HK as well.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

I watched an interview with Ramsay a while back from some foreign country, and they asked him about the American Kitchen Nightmares seeming to be more scripted (they mentioned the Indian place in NYC that was disgusting) and he said he was actually really pissed off about it, he said the owners knew when he was coming and couldn't believe how they didn't do anything to try and make the place look better before he showed up and how it made it seem like they had scripted the thing when in fact "the managers were idiots."

I don't buy everything, but I think the American Hell's Kitchen is really scripted, the Kitchen Nightmares is sorta scripted, and I think the BBC Kitchen Nightmares is probably the most unscripted of his shows.

Ramsay only hosted season 1 of the UK version of Hell's Kitchen.

I prefer the cheesy "dramatic" music they play when something bad happens, and the stupidity of the contestants in the US version. Makes for much more entertaining TV.

J was absolutely pathetic. I really wish he'd just knock off Lacey though, she is such a loser.

I fucking hate Lacey. She's obviously there for the drama (Robert nailed it), but I was surprised he just threw J out. He's been okay so far, tonight just wasn't his best night.

I wanna see Carol and Andrea get in to a catfight. That'd be great.

"If you win, I'll hang up my jacket and become a crack-whore"... TV doesn't get any better than that!

I thought the cool thing was how the challenge came down to a tie and the last plate... I can't remember the last time that happened on the show and made for some real good drama for a change.

If you think about it, J had been hiding behind Robert, Ben and Danny for some time now, and he's been a pretender. Guys like him can survive for a while, but once Ramsay puts the spotlight on them, he'll find out really quick how fake they are.

Carol and Andrea definitely need to get into a fight. I'd root for Andrea, because Carol just gets on my nerves a little more than Andrea does.

I mean, as soon as Ramsay had to pull the risotto from the menu, it was over for J. I thought his only chance to survive another week was for his team to win, but he just kept screwing up.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

J. is a local guy and has been on the local FOX station's morning news on the past couple Fridays. In the interview yesterday, he sounded like he didn't even want to be on the show and wanted to leave. Apparently, not long before they started filming the show he found out his son was diagnosed with autism and apparently his head wasn't in it because of that.

He did seem king of bitter, though, about how he was protrayed on the show. He kept saying "it's a show," "it's good entertainment." I get the feeling he really doesn't like Ben. He threw Ben under the bus both weeks, talking shit about him.
