No comments? A pretty damn exciting episode!!!

I can't believe Seth was gone. Not that he didn't suck, but he was perfect for drama. That's something else. I was shocked the whole time as to what was going on. By far one of the worst dinner services I've ever seen.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

Just started watching last week (and haven't seen past seasons). Is the show seriously trying to find a chef or just entertain? There seems to be a huge disparity in skill level among the participants and it appears these initial shows are just pure entertainment while they separate out the 'chaff' (and presumably the good chefs remain and have an honest competition). Is this how past seasons have gone?

This isn't supposed to be a competitor to Top Chef. Most people watch it for the contestants general stupidity and Ramsay's hijinx.

It's supposed to be fun. Not to be taken seriously.

Thanks, I assumed that was kind of the point of the earlier shows... much like American idol during their weed out process? I was under the impression that the winner was head chef at the Borgata (sp?)... is this more like the apprentice where the winner is probably just a figurehead title who gets the cash payout and nothing is really expected?

Don't get me wrong, the show is entertaining in a lowest common denominator type of way, just remind me not to eat at the restaurant of the winner!

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

I thought this was an awesome episode. Ramsay was classic tonight. Loved it when both sides were fucking up dinner service equally. Gordon blowing his stack and kicking both sides out of the kitchen was great.

It was weird that Ramsay wanted both sides to pick 2 people, but he only sent 1 home. I thought he was going to send 1 girl and 1 guy home.

I was like WTF!! when Lacey stupidly nominated herself. Why the hell didn't she nominate Coi?

All in All, Seth was the right choice.

I was kind of expecting more of a payoff out Seth making "Ramsay" eggs more than he was just slow.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

I don't really understand this whole "go figure it out yourselves" nomination process. He used to pick the best of the worst and let them make the nominations themselves. I think that's why Lacey ended up nominating herself, because that's how the red team voted even though she didn't agree.

I thought he was going to send Ben back to the line and pull J up. He was tearing into him when they came out to name the nominations.

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

My gf and I have decided that the contestants this season suck. We don't have many real wacko standouts like Matt and Jen. Everyone is pretty middle of the road here.

Seth needed to go. That guy was a douchebag opportunist with no social skills.

The breakfast service was funny. It was so simple to make that Ramsay was looking for things to get mad at.

Ben looked at times like he was channeling De Niro in Deer Hunter.

Bump again.

New episode

12 Chefs Compete:

Synospsis:

Spoiler:

The 12 remaining candidates shop at an Asian market for ingredients for Asian-fusion beef, poultry and seafood dishes that are judged by chef Ramsay and food writer Tanya Steel, the editor of Epicurious.com. At dinner service, chefs from both teams crack under pressure, and before the field is reduced to 11, Ramsay does something unusual.

My Tivo cut off the end. I only saw the nominations. Who got eliminated?

Colleen. After 5 poor dinner services, Chef said it was time for her to go, although he did compliment her on her tenacity, said she was strong. I have to agree with that, for as much hell she got from Chef, I dont think she ever broke down and cried, like so many have in the past.

I enjoy the show for what it is, but man are the promos misleading! I thought this week would be really great, but it was pretty weak, as far as Ramsey getting angry.

Colleen's elimination came out of left field. I was thinking J. was gonna go since Andrea has always been a strong team player.

Good episode overall. Next week should be pretty good - even Jean-Philippe gets pissed.

I agree as well, even though I really disliked her. She took her beatings like a champ, which shows a lot of heart.

I can't believe that I'm actually about to type this: Lacey did a great job bouncing back.

I sometimes don't get the point of "nominating" someone (except the TV drama of course) when Ramsay will get rid of who he wants to.

Is there any worse fake drama than "Oooh, can they get all their ingrediants in 1 hour using only $100?"

Re: Hell's Kitchen -- Season 5 Discussion Thread -- Premieres 1/29/09

This season really blows. NONE of the contestants are entertainingly bad, even Lacey is boring at this point. No one remotely stands out. This episode was weak, weak, weak. They really need to do a celeb edition of this show next.

Colleen sucked at cooking, but she was tenacious.

Paula looks like a cancer patient. It's creepy.

I would recommend setting up your DVR to go over 10-20 minutes from now on, cause those American Idol shows aren't going to get any shorter.

To be a contestant on this show, is it a requirement that you smoke?
