That bald guy was pretty odd, and I have never seen Fringe.

I really can't see (no pun intended) Scott McIntyre staying around after that awful performance, I think he'll be going home.

And Adam Lambert, he and Danny Gokey are the only ones I actually enjoy watching. Unfortunately, the show ran long so my DVR cut it off right as they were showing the baby pictures and interviewing the parents. "He never liked sports".

Re: American Idol Top 8, April 7 & 8. Songs From the Year They Were Born

I didn't get the love for Matt's performance. His mic was mixed too low or something, but he didn't really sound all that great.

Danny is still channeling Michael Bolton and isn't all that original.

Lil has no clue what to do.

Anoop needs to stay in that R&B groove.

Kris continues his coffee house performance ways.

Alison continues to show good vocal chops, but probably 1-2 years too young for her intangibles to work for her and not against her.

Scott reminds me of that precocious little 6 year old that won't stop showing the world he is versatile. His voice is not versatile, and I don't enjoy watching him perform.

And I didn't get to see Adam's performance as both of my DVRs (old Showstopper used as a backup, and Comcast DVR) cut off after 61 minutes. Doh!

Re: American Idol Top 8, April 7 & 8. Songs From the Year They Were Born

Lil and Scott were definitely the worst tonight. I agreed 100% with everyone about Lil doing 2nd rate Tina Turner. Scott's song selection was awful. He sounded more like he belonged in a garage band. Back in the day, I actually liked "The Search is Over."

Again, I don't know why most people in the board hates Adam with such a passion. I thought he was awesome tonight. He took a 27 year old song that I personally have never heard of and made it sound fresh and modern for today. I think this performance equals his Motown selection from a few weeks ago. I think he has the most star potential among these guys.

Danny was just okay tonight and he is also one of my favorites. I didn't like how he cheated and used an 80's cover of a 1961 hit.

IMO, Anoop has a good R&B voice, but just doesn't have any star quality about him.

I thought Allison was okay, but I just hate that Bonnie Raitt song with a passion. It got so overplayed in the 90's on AC Radio when I was going to High School and College.

Did not like Kris at all this week.

I think the bottom 3 this week will be Lil, Scott and between Kris and Anoop.

I'm a fan of Fringe and I'm pissed that Idol's producer let the show go 7 minutes, which cut off Fringe. He needs to speak in Ryan's ear and stop Paula from blabbering so much.

Is it just me or does Paula sound even more stupid when she's trying to sound smart and articulate in her criticisms?

Yeah, I thought for sure they were going to rip him for that.

Why didn't someone tell Paula her lipstick was all over her front teeth?

We saw that as well. Horrible. And we had just commented on how good she looked when we saw the lipstick.

Lil is getting more and more exposed every week. And I am sick of the judges telling her "We know you can sing", "We know your talented"...blah blah blah. The problem with Lil is that every year they look for "this years black diva with the big voice" and Lil doesn't come close to any of the Divas from past seasons. She has no low register whatsoever. She needs to stick to singing church songs.

Anoop was great tonight.

Kris was meh. He may end up in the bottom 3 but he won't be going home.

Scott is just awful. He had one or 2 decent performances but he is so outclassed by the other guys this year.

Allison was great. She took a song I never really liked and made me kind of like it.

I liked Matt tonight. Reminded me of something JT might do during the Grammys.

Danny dropped the ball in a big way. If you are going to try and bend the rules by using a song not really released in then year you were born, then nail it. When you go first, you better be really good or really bad. Boring forgettable performances get you into the bottom 3 when you go 1st.

Adam - I actually kind of liked it. Started to get screechy at a point but pulled it back. It was merely a copy of the copy of the original but he will never get called out on it. And yes, Gary Jules did it much better. I just think anytime Adam doesn't do some crazy over the top performance, he gets points from me.

Best:
Matt
Anoop
Allison

Middle of Road:
Adam
Danny

Bottom 3:
Scott
Kris
Lil

Bye Bye Scott

Hmmm, I'm still not convinced!

And Simon gave that a standing ovation? When was the last time he did that?

The main thing that bugs me about this practice is that they allow it both ways. You can pick an older song if a cover of it was released in that year, or you can pick a song originally released in that year but perform a cover version that wasn't released until years later.

Re: American Idol Top 8, April 7 & 8. Songs From the Year They Were Born

Here's the thing....(Kara)

For me personally, Adam is the only one who performs. He won me over last night. THought it was an emotional performance, and each week is something different.

The rest of them (excluding Allison) give karoake performances each and every week. I feel nothing from them..no connection at all. They underwhelm.

You can say I'm stuck in the 80's (I'm not) or a cougar (I'm not--well, not with him...Kris maybe) whatever....

Well, I'm one of the few that like Adam - but I also really like the Gary Jules version of Mad World. I don't think Adam did that song much justice. Didn't care for it much.

Sadly, I agree.

ETA: If nothing else, I guess I give him credit in the sense that I'm always curious what he is going to do and he's unpredictable.

Someone is clearly advising Adam. Isn't this like the third "soft" performance he's done in a row? If he does another mellow song or performance next week, then he's in it to win it only. Not that that's a bad thing. But he's always been a more rock performer. And honestly, I prefer him more mellow. Because there is no screaming or screeching. And we don't see that tongue.

I wish Adam actually did the Tears For Fears version.

Agreed. During the first 2 weeks of 'Top 12' weeks, I didn't like Adam at all but I actually consider him my favorite now. He is the only one who is consistent, has a great voice and is an excellent performer. All the others don't give karaoke performances but actually sound like karaoke compared to him. The competition is for him to lose.

I see him in the final with Danny. As much as I like Danny, I don't see all the 'love' for him: he's a good singer, but not great in any way.

Obviously someone is informing him - and is doing a great job! Like him or hate him, at least he is different and original.

Although she was better last night, she still has trouble getting whole words to come out of that mouth. She leaves off the first part of a word, the last part of a word, or changes a word all together!

Go back and listen to her performance last night.

"...in dis final hour..."

"I can't pake you love me..." Towards the end of the song.

Uggg...

Will last night's DVR fiasco effect tonight's episode? Will they have to do a revote since those people didn't get a chance to see his performance/phone numbers and vote?

He did no such thing. As others have already mentioned, he just copied Gary Jules cover of this song almost verbatim. He did nothing original whatsoever.

BTW, I don't know how many of you remember it but the original Tears For Fears version of "Mad World" is truly bizarre. It's a song with a very downbeat message yet TFF did it very upbeat. Leaves you very conflicted. FWIW, I think that Jules' version is much better than the original and is now the definitive version.

[Edit] Is it just me or does anyone else feel like bitch-slapping Kara into the middle of next week every time she talks about "being an ARTIST"?

I'm guessing that Adam is safe tonight. And if he is and if they know that, I think they will let him perform, but there wont be a revote.

It's not like no one saw the performance. Just those of us (which is probably most of us) who tivoed the show.

My wife and mine's beef with her is that every week, she seems to have it in her head what they should do/sing, and if they don't do that, she doesn't like it.
