Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

One of the best Twitter comments I read after this latest episode aired was something along the lines of "How to tell a GoT reader from a non-reader: non-readers want to strangle a Lannister right now, while readers are too busy cursing the name of Frey."

On a related note, I liked the bit of foreshadowing with Catelyn saying something like "He'd never hurt me" when talking about dear old Walder.

If they kill Drogo next week, I'm done!
Dude said that no matter what happens he will not be leaving the show.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

We are going to have a TON of new folks in here in the next year. Many will be upset after the Red Wedding, if people come in here after the 3rd book, lets be mindful/warn them that there might be book 4/5 spoilers in here..and send them on their way until they are done with book 5. I wonder if we need to rename the title?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

I plan to stay far away from this thread and any related sites on the internet once book 5 comes out, until I've finished it. If they're smart, they'll do the same.

And if they really want to talk about the Red Wedding, there's a Book forum for that. I agree, though, that the title of this thread is a bit misleading, although the first post makes things clear.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Now that Ned has died, I have a question about some of the flashback info:

Spoiler:
In the TV show, they never really went into much detail about the death of Lyanna Stark, or really, anything about her. They also cut out the whole "Promise Me, Ned" thing which many people theorize is about Jon Snow and the whole deal with his real parents. This may have come in the later books, but I remember it being emphasized pretty heavily, especially about the unclear way that Lyanna died (Robert's interpretation vs the fan theories). Having never shown/told us any of this while Ned was alive, how do you think the TV show will deal with this? Just curious.

I think they'll leave it vague and address it when the time comes. If it ever does.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

I'm going to bet they'll introduce Howland Reed later to tell the story, or they'll have parts of it told by Meera/Jojen.

Yeah, Howland has to be a big character at some point.

Hmm Good point. But I really liked how in the book, Ned is almost haunted by Lyanna's last request. It would be a shame if they never included that part.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

I'd never thought of that with the show..hmm. I'm going to be avoiding this thread for awhile after aDwD comes out..I need to re-read the others first..Already re-read book one before the show started. And....I'm assuming the final shot Sunday will be her emerging from the fire with dragons..Hope those dragons look good.

When I set this thread up, I called for spoilers through book 4 only. What should we do with 5? There probably won't be a ton of show talk once this season is over, so it's probably not needed. Next season, we can start a new spoilers thread where 1-5 are fair game.

I'd say we leave Dance with Dragons spoilers out of this thread. But like others, once Dance is out, I'm personally shutting myself off from any related threads until I've finished it.

I say we roll out the ADWD spoilers slowly, like one chapter per day.

What Sucks is, I actually like Robb MORE in GoT than I did in the books. That is going to be tough when Cat talks about her hair, how ned loved her hair. UGH

I've already read half the book. Who wants to know where Tyrion is?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Looks like Casting is almost finished (or getting started?)

s I write, well, we have sent five or six choices to HBO for approval, and I’m given to understand that all of them have been approved, so now we are in the throes of hammering out terms with each of those actors. I’d hoped that two or three of the deals would be set by now, so I could give you madmen a few hints (which you would then solve in twelve seconds, but that’s beside the point)… but that hasn’t happened.

And tomorrow morning I leave for Poland, and will not be posting here often, if at all. Some of our castings may firm up as early as next week, but I won’t be around to hint at them, so expect HBO will announce the players on its own website… or perhaps through some of the TV journalists who have been following the show so faithfully. So watch the web pages and TV columns of HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, TIME, THE DAILY BEAST, AOL, etc for announcements about the second season. And Froggy will return when I do.

Some slight spoilers about Season 2.

Jaime/Robb will be seen more than in the book.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Thanks, I figured they'd need to do something like that. And this:

There's fluidity in that certain scenes from the third book find their way into the second season just as certain scenes from the second book find their way into the end of the first season.
If we do get to a 4th season, I imagine books 4&5 will be mostly combined.

Nice of the LA Times to spoil this season's finale for non-readers in that article.

Do you guys think the Dragons are going to look good? I see they have 2 FX companies listed on IMDB BlueBolt and LOOK! Effects, who have a lot of decent credits to their names.

Season 3 needs to be chunked out to 2 seasons..so maybe the number of seasons stays the same...just that 4/5 is in one season..and 3 is two seasons..that is GRRM's thoughts anyways.

They saved money from the battle scenes..maybe they sprung it on Dragons.

Or they could just save money by not showing them at all.

Jorah: "Are those dragons!? Ay yi yi!!!"

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

All right I got episodes 1-7 and sat down to soak them in and get engrossed...

Episode 2 just lost me. It seems like terrible writing--The kid was pushed and, yay, it looks like an accident. THEN they send in the stupidest assassin in the realm to STAB him and remove ALL DOUBT that it was an accident (AND kill the mother what the hell, why not)

The characters seem wayy too exaggerated. Does it get better, or does this series continue to wallow in the shallow sea?

But on the plus side: TITS!

1. Stick with the show. A lot is going to happen. Also, nothing happens without a pretty good reason in this world. If nothing else, it's consistently true that GRR Martin has thought this stuff through pretty well. For example: it will become clear in season 2 (or maybe next episode) why the assasination attempt on Bran was so ham-handed and pointlessly obvious. Trust me, there's a good reason.

2. If you haven't read the books, let alone seen the first 9 episodes of the show, I would stay away from this thread.
