Sounds a little weird, I coulda sworn there were some folks swearing left and right when I was playing a week or so ago. Seemed to me like the filter had been taken down temporarily? No idea.

The filter is an ingame setting to block profanity on your machine.

They have said many times on the forums that cursing in public channels is not allowed, and you will get suspended. But, ofcourse, they don't realize that not everyone reads their forums.

OK, this is a question that I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to, but just in case -- before I do something I'd regret anyways: If I untrain a skill, and train a new skill (ie. drop blacksmithing, pick up herbalism), if I decide that I want blacksmithing back again do I start from 0 skill points again, or the points I had when I dropped it?

When you unlearn a skill, you lose all points in it. If you learn it again later, you start from 0. However, at least for engineering, unless they changed it in a recent patch, I believe your choice of goblin or gnome engineering is locked forever. Even if you unlearn engineering and relearn it later, once you get back to 225 skill, you'll still only be able to learn gnome or goblin (whichever one you chose the first time).

So will battlegrounds and the new patch go live today? or will Groucho be horribly wrong?

I was horribly wrong. Alterac Valley is still closed on the test server. The patch isn't ready for today. Maybe next week...

I'm not on the test server, but just from reading the message boards at worldofwarcraft.com it was pretty obvious that BG isn't ready yet.

Which sucks because I have absolutely nothing to do in game but farm for rugged leather to sell at the AH or help guildmates with instances. I'm really into the PvP stuff, but TM is just a disaster if you're horde and raids on XR usually last all of 5-10 minutes.

Maybe it's time to start another alt.

Keep in mind that you pretty much need to have someone report you in order for a GM to take action, whether it be for profanity, a naming violation, or anything else said in General chat. So there may be plenty of cursing going around, but if no one gets angry and reports you, you'll probably be ok.

Well, people above seemed confused at how there was swearing going on all the time in General and that there was a suspension for it, so obviously it isn't a given is it?

It should be reopened later today along with a test realm patch update.

How is the Alterac Valley BG? my highest toon is only level 38 so its only Warsong Gultch for me. Its pretty fun, a lot more fast paced than PvE fighting. I like it a lot better with my mage than my warrior since the mage can do a lot of damage fast which is usually needed since i die pretty fast once i get into battle.
I have experienced bugs, last night i got into a bg that turned out to be 9 horde (i was horde) vs 1 alliance. 2 seconds after i'm in, we get our 3rd flag and its over. I didnt even have a chance to move. I also wish they had the flag location on your map. i got stuck in a 2 hour game once because the enemy was hiding with our flag so we couldnt return their flag and win. A gnome rogue can find lots of places to hide that make it take forever. I also once logged out during a BG and when i came alive i was a ghost without a body. i had to run all the way to a town and find the graveyard to get back, it was kind of annoying.

They've never given a date on a patch like this before, and I've searched and searched for this post. I can't find it. Link?

They said it in a post. I'll try to find it.

I saw the post he was referring to... having trouble finding it thanks to Blizzard's wonderful search.

Well this long 4 day weekend has been a blast for me. Think I've probably hit at least 5 or 6 levels 21 or so up to 27. Working through a ton of quests, I finally started to level my mining again. Found my first gold today as well as more iron and silver -- I'm happy. Now I just need to bump my smithing up enough to start using all the bronze and crap I've saved.

I also just discovered the AH. Man, I coulda made a ton more cash if I started using this sooner. I am literally kicking myself. All that cloth and herbs I vendored -- all those random items. I could have made a killing. At least, I'm definitely making up for lost time. Even my cheapie home-made runed copper breastplates are selling like hotcakes.

I'm on the final stage of my pally mace quest. I probably could have finished this a lot sooner with a buddy. I'm trying to get the hammer out of stonefang keep and those stupid elites are tearing me up -- even though I'm 9 levels up. 1 on 1 is a breeze, 2 is pretty tough, and 3 is impossible. Finally got around to upgrading my armor before I logged -- some of my stuff is REALLY old. Hopefully it'll make a difference, or I can probably get someone from my guild ;p

What's everyone else working on?

I really need to mine more.. level 40 and I can't mine anything higher than iron.

Anyhow, my shaman finally hit 40.. and I was finally able to outfit all of the mail I bought many levels ago in anticipation. Got mounted as well. Respecced to enhancement. Basically, I was a restoration shaman before. Not very pvp friendly. Now I got crits in the 12-13% which can go pretty crazy sometimes with a 2h weapon windfury proc.

Tuan, my rule of thumb is, AH every single thing you get that's not grey. A white item is used in some profession in one form or another. This will help other players and will get you A LOT of money in return.

I'm sorry to hear that you vendored your cloth though. hehe. Typically, players who don't tailor or first aid are much richer than those who have those professions. Cloth makes you a rich man.

yeah, vendor no more -- not when I can get 50+s for 20 wool or a little less for the linen. Good gravy.

Any good way to guage the value of an item in the auction house?

I sold a blue level 20 item for 1g80s, and was satisfied making that. The fact that it sold in barely 5 minutes tells me that is was probably worth more. Whats a good way to price things? It seems items are far more likely to sell with a buyout price; even if that price is higher than what it normally goes for.

I usually only sell leather and copper bars (so far); before putting up my auction I see what other people have already on sale and then I price accordingly. I have sold 20 copper bars for as low as 50 silver and as high as 1 gold. Depends on what's already there.

If you can't compare with another same item, http://wow.allakhazam.com/ has a "price range" thingie for items on their site, it will at least give you a ballpark figure of the item's worth.
