I tried the 10v10 CTF Battleground last night. Very enjoyable.

It's really nothing new if you've played a FPS in the last 10 years, but it was nice to play it in the Warcraft universe.

There are still some bugs to iron out, and the Test Server kept booting everybody periodically, but overall I think it's going to be a great addition to the game.

This weekend I hope to also try the 40v40 Battleground.

Battlegrounds is the only thing that's keeping me in this game at the moment.

I finally hit 60 with my Mage (hooray for me!) and I'm actually finding myself bored out of my mind. There's nothing to do except for PvP, which usually takes place in TM and has been a complete nightmare the last week or so, and earning money. Earning money usually involves farming for rugged leather in Winterspring, but that gets really old really fast.

I've tried making an alt, but doing the same beginning quests that I've done many, many times before with my other alts is just boring, boring, boring. I like going to instances that I've never done before with my guildies, but that's really a once in a while activity.

I'm hoping that we'll see Battlegrounds within the next couple of weeks, although I realize that may be a little unrealistic. I'm thinking of getting in on the test server but I want to do Battlegrounds with my guild so I'll probably just wait til it's released to the public.

I just started playing on Eonar. I'm a lvl 17 tauren druid, and I like everything so far, but I'm a little lost on professions. Initially I thought you were allowed 2 gathering and 2 proscessing professions, so I picked skinning and leatherworking, though I intended to do herbalism & alchemy as my main 2.

well I dropped leatherworking after I got 40 points because it seemed repetitive, and now have 150 skinning and ~80 herbalism. I've about filled the bank with spare leather and roots, but I can't decide what course to take. I like skinning a lot more than chasing herbs or mines, but it seems to me that leatherworking isn't very helpful, and the only characters who'll really benefit from me are druids and rogues, and even then it seems more likely that a magical item would be superior to anything I could make.

Any suggestions? Is alchemy that great? Is it worth doing skinning without leatherworking? Maybe I should try skinning and enchanting.

Is there a spoiler on professions? I'd really like to know more.

also how do you split up a stack of items? Say I want to sell 5 bandages out of my stack of 20.

If you just want to profit from skinning, is it more effective to sell hides to a merchant, or completed products?

To split a stack, shift+left click on the stack and you'll get a dialog box asking how many you want to split out.

As for your other questions, here's the official professions page. A lot of good information: https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/professions/ It might help you choose the path that's right for you.

Regarding leatherworking, you can actually make some pretty good items (if you wear leather). That includes green and blue items. Pre-40 I made a lot of my own armor. After 40 I became a mail-wearer, so I don't wear as much, but there are a few mail pieces leatherworkers can make. As a druid, you may find a use for leatherworking well into your upper-levels.

The gathering professions (mining, skinning, herbalism) are currently very good as moneymakers. The key is to sell full stacks on the Auction House, not to vendors.

I'm a skinner/leatherworker myself. I don't make a lot of money from it, but I have fun doing it.

sell stacks of 10 light leathers at auction house. I can easily get atleast 14 silver per stack with buyout.
I started playing the auction house market more this weekend. I made a few gold by buying Fused Wiring for 50 silver (buyout) and reselling it for 1.5 gold. Also have been buying cheap Moss Agate and selling it for more. I got 5 of them for 75 silver and then sold 2 of them for 1.1 gold. Same with engineering recipes, buyout for 10 silver, sell for 75 silver.
I need to get to Shimmering Flat with my level 38 human mage. Whats the best way? I tried to go though the south end of the Dustwallow marsh, but the dragonkin were too high level (mid 40s). I thought i might try running though the barrens to thousand needles but figured the tauren guards at the lift would kill me. I'm guessing i'll have to head to Desolace and then run through thousand needles.
I copied my mage over to the test server and played a game of 10 vs 10 CTF. it was a lot of fun. it took forever (like 2 hours) because we had the last horde flag we needed, but the horde took our flag and their rogue hide with it, so we couldnt get credit for their flag until we got our flag back. I bet lots of crazy hiding spaces will be found. Also the flag gets a lot smaller when a gnome has it, so i bet gnomes will be flag bearers often. I wonder how it would effect the game if the maps always showed the locations of the flags.
I was level 38 and the horde guys were level 31 to 40. Almost seems like 5 level breaks would be better since a level 31 has no hope against a level 40. but i guess its all team work that matters.

Dustwallow doesn't connect directly to Thousand Needles, so that was a lost cause with or without the Dragonkin.

You'll need to either go via the Barrens (sidestepping the guards on the Great Lift or suiciding into Thousand Needles), or via Desolace --> Feralas.

Again the map in the WoW manual has messed me up. It shows a road from Dustwallow south to 1000 needles. It also had me looking for Blackfathom Deeps in northern Darkshore instead of western ashenvale.
So if i just jump off the cliff at the great lift area and die (or maybe not with my floating spell) i can just ghost walk back to my body? sounds easier than the other way. Do Paladins have anyway to survive big falls? Do they have any protection globe that stops that kind of damage?

thanks for the tips. Maybe I will switch back to leatherworking after I finish all the herbalism quests and stockpile bruiseweed in the barrens. I'm on a smaller server (Onyxia was killed for the first time ever this weekend,) so is it better if I travel to the neutral auction which I assume will have 2x the auctions, or can I stay in Ogrimmar?

Stay in Ogrimmar. The neutral auction sites are very rarely used (at least on the servers I've tried). That's for a bunch of reasons: higher auction fees, remoteness, and the fact that about 90% of the crafting (and other non-hunting activity) happens in the city with the non-neutral AH (at least on the alliance side).

Daveninja, the graveyard in thousand needles is right below the lift, so it makes suicide a pretty good option there if your slowfall fails you.

RoQuEr, Neutral auction house is usually pretty dead, plus the fees there are are quite steep. Not to mention that at level 17 you'll probably get killed several times just getting there. Orgrimmar is your best bet.

and if you're in a pvp server, everyone gets ganked in town so people rarely ever try to to talk to the auctioneer because there is so much fighting.

I made it to the shimmering flat and gadgetzan yesterday. not too hard. Cut through the barrens. I didnt know the lift tauren guards were only level 25 and 30. I still just walk to the left of them and jumped off and slow falled safely. I ended up walking though a centaur camp, but they were like 16 levels lower than i, so easy kills and didnt pull much aggro. Hit the shimmering flats and talked to the chicken beckon guy and then headed to Gadgetzan to get the flight path. The auction there only had 103 items listed total. Nothing cheap, lots of clam meat. I now have to work my way through Desolace quests and get an infernal orb.
The test server seemed pretty busy this morning during the normal server mantainence.

You'll see lots of meat and eggs at the gadgetzan AH since that's where everyone goes to get artisan cooking.

I think you'll get creamed without a party.

You might as well get it while doing your In the Name of the Light quest.

In the Name of the Light is the main SM quest for Alliance. If you don't have it, just go to Nijel's Peak in Desolace and go to the top of the inn. Talk to the guy there and he'll tell you to go to Southshore in Hillsbrad. Once you get to Southshore, go to the 2nd floor in the inn and talk to the guy there and you'll get it.

It's listed as a level 40 elite dungeon quest, but it ranges. The library instance has level 34-37 elites and the boss is 38, I believe. The armory has level 36-38 elites and the boss is 39 or 40. And the cathedral is just plain tough when you actually get to the cathedral part. It's very easy to wipe if you don't do careful pulls. It's a 38-40 instance while the bosses are 2 level 42 elites.

OK, i must have that quest since some quest sent me to Desolace. Now i just need a couple hours free to join and a group and run through SM.
Yesterday in desolace i was walking around and ran into a little tauren town (ghostwalk something) and got chaced by a guard. This turned my pvp flag on. I then went to the goblin with the pack kodos since my wife was there turning in a quest. There was an undead priest 3 levels lower than me standing around. He didnt have his pvp flag on so i waved to him. Then i was looking on the map to figure out where to go for a quest and he attacked me. He ended up killing me pretty fast since i wasnt ready. Then he ran away before i came back. My wife didnt want to attack him because she didnt want your pvp flag on. So there is an undead priest with a happy honor kill out there bragging about taking down a lamer mage.

Can anyone tell me where I go to learn how to use wands?

I've talked to the weapon master in all 3 cities with no avail.

Not all classes can use wands, and if you are referring to your druid they can't use wands.

If you can use wands you start with the skill. Wands kind of suck but they'll be better with the auto fire thats in the next patch.
