I've decided to link in youtube vids for the announced DLC into the DLC post, so that's in one place every week.

Took a listen to all of the songs. I'm always glad when they expand to new artists to give variety. Also, having more female-fronted bands is always a good thing. The Material and The Myriads are pretty much definites for us next week. Maximo Park is growing on me as well. Them Terribles, not so much. But that $1 price point might just have me bite anyways.

More money that I can put towards GH:Aerosmith next week. Horrible downloads lately (except the Cars disc).

My sentiments exactly! I'm all for some variety, but for a game called ROCK BAND it needs some more music we can actually ROCK out to. That and I look forward to all the bitching when they finally release some more metal.

Kinda like all the bitching we see when there's no metal?

Sure, except the difference is we barely get any metal tracks or even anything halfway heavy. Like I said, for a game called Rock Band it needs to bring more ROCK to us. I don't know what the hell you call the bands that are coming out next week, but they certainly aren't Rock. I love the variety Harmonix has been releasing so far, I mean, I've bought anything from the Jimmy Buffett songs to Judas Priest and the Earache pack, but it seems like there are already plenty of songs available as DLC that sound like the ones that are coming out next week.

I still say they would be better off each week releasing several songs that are from drastically different styles of music, like last week with Buffett and Disturbed.

Agreed. I would love it if they had specific weeks during the month that were of a certain style or genre, and the monthly album could fall into whatever week that was. For instance:

Week 1: Classic Rock (Rolling Stones, The Who, Skynrd, etc.)
Week 2: Modern Rock (Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, etc.)
Week 3: Metal (any kind would work for me. Hair metal, thrash metal, whatever)
Week 4: Indie Rock (anything that doesn't fit the other weeks)

There are probably genres that I'm missing, and it could be more like a six week cycle, but at least we'd know every genre is covered in that time frame. I like quite a variety of their stuff and am only missing about 30 songs out of the DLC (of which I'll pick up a few on an "off" week). However, metal is my preferred genre to play, and I would like to know that I'm getting my little piece of metal every month or whatnot.

I wonder if Harmonix is having a real issue securing songs and artists lately. Everything they're releasing seems so niche to me. Nothing is really universal. I realize "universal" is a tall order when defining "Rock", but it just seems like there are so many viable options that have wider appeal than what they've been doing.

Just look at the bands over the last month, spanning 31 songs:
The Material
The Myriad
Them Terribles
Maximo Park
Disturbed
Jimmy Buffet
The Cars
Blur
H-Blockx
Die Toten Hosen
Muse
Les Wampas
Tokio Hotel
Pleymo
Juli
Oasis
Blondie
The Clash
Sonic Youth

Where are the seminal rockers? Where's GnR? Metallica? Zepplin? Hendrix? Van Halen? Queen?

Where's Nirvana? Crue? Bon Jovi? Stones? Floyd? AC/DC? Santana?

Where the fuck is Journey? Where is Live? Where is U2?

I sure hope that the current (disappointing) release trend isn't the future. I'm all for variety and new bands, but not at the expense of the obvious and huge hits that should be there.

No offense to fans of those released lately.

AMEN pinata, I couldn't of said it better myself. I love getting some niche music, but I think it should be backed by big songs as well.

When it comes to Rock Band DLC, the saying should be changed to "You can't please any of the people any of the time."

Personally, I think they're doing an excellent job, releasing at least 3 songs every week (except for April Fool's Day when there was just 1 song) in a wide variety of styles. Maybe it's because I like just about any type of music, but I'm really happy with the variety.

I would imagine that Harmonix is trying to space out the tracks from really big-name bands, especially saving them for the weeks right before new GH releases. They need to keep a few heavy hitters up their sleeve.

I can understand this and I guess we'll see soon enough when the next 2 GH releases hit. But I do worry that with the advent of GH:A, GH:M, and now GH:WT that the artists and labels are flocking to the GH name.

Not that I care one way or the other, but I've already got the RB setup and exclusivity sucks. I don't want to be forced into buying GH just because the RB well dried up.

I would consider the ones in bold to be pretty damned great, and in the case of The Clash and Sonic Youth, absolutely seminal. Also, Live is on the list as a glaring omission? Come on now.

I find it interesting that you neglected to mention an entire album by Judas Priest, who are about as archetypal heavy metal as you can get.

I didn't neglect anything, I listed the last month.

Those 5 bands may be great. It may be awesome to have 9 rockin' Cars songs - but was it necessary at the expense of other entires?

Hell, I love The Clash and The Cars. But that doesn't mean I should have hid them from the list to accentuate a point.

Live, as a band, has some amazing rock songs, especially from the first two albums.

Also, those bands were just examples. I could keep going with Joan Jett, ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, Ozzy, and so on.

But I think you get the point

Except Shit Town would be highly edited

Gotta live, gotta live gotta live in town
Gotta live, gotta live gotta live in a town

Doesn't have the same ring.

I'd totally buy this song - one of my favs from the ol' high school days. Even though in the video the drummer is relegated to the role of dancing Ska guy aka Bosstones, and Ed is doing a pretty poor Maynard impression

Also agree with pinata's post.

I don't even care if it's all metal, but how about some decent artists in the harder rock to metal genres. Shit even some more hair metal would be appreciated.

I've never been a big Judas Priest fan - the only record I'd want from them is Painkiller.

The Cars are fine. But c'mon - Jimmy Buffett?

Disturbed *might* have been cool if it was stuff from The Sickness.

What it boils down to is a lack of popular artists from the 80s & 90s. It's all bands from the 70s and 00s that we're getting. Even at that I'd say what we are getting are b-level artists. Where are the heavy hitters?

Well, at this point it's coming down to your personal tastes. I would have preferred Stained Class if we're getting a full Priest album, but it weakens your argument to say "There's not enough metal!" when the first full DLC album was by Judas Priest.

Fat joke? Is Blues Traveler fat or something? I was more referring to their giant hit, Runaround.

to Live.

Actually some of my favorite tunes to play are ones that were popular when I was growing up, like Oasis and Smashing Pumpkins. Live would fit into that category as well. I like the Weezer songs, but they're all a little too easy.

How about Alice in Chains?
