Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread
I'm not far in. I spent 30 minutes looking for a Toxin container before tapping out.
and going back to Rage. Sorry.
Good to know that it gets better.

Also, just a tip when it comes to those Toxin containers. I wouldn't spend (waste) time looking for them specifically. You come across them all naturally through the coarse of the story (by the time you encounter the 5th rogue or so). Some of them are in places that would be a bit of a pain to get to, if that's the only reason you're going there, so I would just keep an eye on the map when you see your getting close to one while on your regular story missions. There is one that is way underground, and going all that way just for a Toxin container would be frustrating, I imagine, when you can come across it naturally.

Being able to mark your map with Riddler collectables that you can see but can't get to yet is a great feature, by the way. That should be the standard for games with collectables going forward.

About the ending:
Spoiler:
I don't have to play any other games this year to proclaim this game of the year. Of course, I am a Batman nut, so it's easy to say that, but the story on this was phenomenal.

Also, I like the inclusion of Catwoman, but as a character in the game (regarding fighting) she just doesn't do anything for me. She's weak.

I am about 50% done with the main game...and like groucho I am not enjoying this as much as the first. It is a great game, and there are some "wow" moments from time to time but I could not put my finger on what it was really, until I started thinking about when I was having fun and when I was finding myself checking what time it was...
I just don't think the city is designed in a way to make me want to explore and play around in. I love big open world games, and even the smaller open world games, but I find that I just want to hurry to the next mission in this world. I don' t think it is the dark nature of the game....but it might be. Flying around is fun...going from roof to roof is ok...but ultimately I just don't enjoy it. It feels small, and cluttered. Also, some of the levels, the parts where you are the predator and are ready to take out a group of guys...these parts don't seemed as fleshed out as the first game. They seem easier so far...but maybe that will get better later
Also, I think some of the gadgets are unnecessary. Games like this always have the gadget to open this door...or remove this lock...it is the nature of these kinds of games, but in this one it sticks out more to me...
That being said I am having fun with it..

I played the game for about 6 hours yesterday. After the first couple missions, you really start to get a feel for the game. Like others, I was very overwhelmed when I began and was actually a bit let down at the overall story and feel of the game. They probably should have done a better job of getting people started rather then just dumping them into this huge city with 100 things being thrown at you at once. Once I started progressing into the story a bit more, I got a better feel for the layout of the city, and now I'm loving it just as much as AA.
They really outdid themselves with The Riddler's challenges this time around. Some of them have already made me pull out my hair. I didn't collect them all in part 1, so I doubt I will even try here. After I finish up the main story (at 54%) right now, I will go back and finish all side missions and then i'll take it from there.
For those who have finished the main story,

I do have to say, that don't even bother going through and trying to get all the riddler trophies on the 1st time through. Many times you don't have the right tools for the job. Once you get through the game, you have a better understanding of how things work and it makes it much, much easier to get some fo the trickier trophies. Things I couldn't figure out early in the game, take me just a few minutes to figure out or to accomplish. Helps once you get a hang of some of the controls, too.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread
I did enjoy the beginning of the game - unfortunately playing this game makes me more nauseous than any FPS or driving game ever has. I'm surprised because I had no problems with Arkham Asylum, but after just thirty minutes of Arkham City I felt horrible - I needed to lie down just to get the room to stop spinning. I let my son take over and was gonna just watch - ended up having to look away. This blows. Damn these publishers and their smooth framerates!

I've been playing basically nonstop the last couple days and am loving this game! The environment is pretty cool and while it can be a bit overwhelming at first I found that wore off pretty fast and I was able to get used to the game's setting. I'm not sure how much I've got left but it feels like I must be pretty close to being finished with the main story. I still have a ton of side stuff and riddles to get though before I'm finished with the game.

Re: Batman: Arkham City Thread
I'm going to echo what a lot of other people said here - The game has a strong start, but it's difficult to appreciate everything going on the first time around because it's a little overwhelming for people who haven't played Arkham Asylum in a while. There's a little bit of a learning curve between remember the old controls while trying to incorporate the new ones that help you get around the city but after a couple of hours of screwing around in the city, it all comes together quite well and the game is as amazing as I remember Asylum to be. I'm still not sold if it's BETTER yet, but I'm inclined to say YES.
