I don't agree with him on that. This is what could have made the game truly amazing and legendary.
Spoiler:
Everything is set in place to make Ethan the possible killer. As well as Gordi. They should have made truly alternate endings with different killers. It almost seems like they have it all set in place - Ann silently whispers the name to Madison, Gordi already killed another boy, etc. Change the one crucial piece of evidence when Jayden is reviewing the Blue Lagoon footage and presto! Different killer. And then all the potential evidence leading to other characters should then be explained in the ending... like Ethan's origami. Also, Madison's intense reaction to the name isn't justified by her complete lack of knowledge of who Scott Shelby is. That should be considered the MacGuffin, because that sealed it for me that Ethan was the killer. And... then it was Shelby. Shelby lying... especially at the graveyard... was also bothersome.

And Cage really has it wrong with the actors and the voices. He says that they obviously weren't bad actors if you felt something. I can be empathetic with a scene even if I don't think the actor's any good. I don't think Britney Spears is a good actress, but I still felt some level of happiness for her at the end of Crossroads. Doesn't mean the movie wouldn't have been better served by a different actress (or writer. or director. or producer.) What that interview tells me is that this project would have been better served by at least a better producer or maybe even a director. It doesn't seem he was able to see past his own glory to the severe flaws of the project, and it doesn't sound like anyone (on a producer level) ever stepped in to challenge him. But I'm also assuming the game creation works like a movie.

Sheesh, the guy's just a terrible writer and it's embarrassing to read his defense of the plot holes. He should've hired an actual professional writer to polish the plot & pen the script and spent his own time helping the team refine the controls. Maybe then we would've gotten a game worthy of a 10/10.

I still haven't finished my first playthrough but I am curious as to whether it's worth a second time through.

If not, I'll probably get rid of it as soon as I am done with it and maybe pick it up again way down the line for cheap.

I just played through a couple more times from the warehouse part and that was it. Sold it within a week so it cost me about $20 to play. I've spent more on movies so I was OK with that.

So unless you're a trophy whore it's not worth it?

How was the DLC? Any good?

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

I thought a second playthrough was worth it. I just did the opposite of everything I did in the first playthrough including purposely killing off a few people and the ending was satisfying enough.

DLC is pretty good. Well worth the $5 if you didn't pre-order.

Not bad, very short though. I had it beaten with all the endings in 30 minutes or so. I do like how you have multiple ways to finish it and you can like chapter skip to right at the last choice to change how it plays out.

well finished the game tonight. I still don't think I'd be going back and replaying it so I'm glad I rented it but it is a HELLUVA ride. Right up their with some great thriller movies and tv shows in terms of twists and tension. All in all everyone with a PS3 needs to play through this, really killer game.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Just finished this today, my ending was the:
Spoiler:
Jayden falls into the shredder, Madison gets arrested, Shaun lives, and Ethan dies in a hail of gunfire. Shaun is seen putting flowers on Ethan's grave, Shelby gets away, and Madison writes her book and someone mysterious meets her at the signing to say she needs a more 'ferocious adversary' or something.
I'd love to play through it again, but the horrific controls are more frustrating than fun. I can never, EVER do the up/down controller motion properly and the lack of camera movement makes something as simple as just turning around rage-inducing. The voice acting was also horrendous. I don't care that they wanted to keep their folks employed, no issue with that, but when accents are clearly screwing up entire passages of dialogue, it pulls me out of whatever they're saying. The kids in particular were horrible beyond belief, but Jayden gets a close second.

I wanted to love this game, I really did. I'm sick of RPGs and FPS war crap, but this needed more polish to be more committed to the story instead of frustrated beyond imagination with the controls. A lot of the time
Spoiler:
Lauren's underwater death in the car specifically
I had NO IDEA what the controls would do. What the hell is the point of freedom of choice if you're not sure what the choice even is? There were at least 6-8 times in the game where I said 'I DIDN'T THINK THAT CONTROL DID THAT' because there was no way to know the difference of action between a half-circle and pressing right.

The fact that I finished this means I thought it was worth all the nonsense to know the story, but I almost would have rather watch a 2.5 hour movie than put up with the game. Some of the quicktime events were awesome, but most of them had a frustrating motion control that I just couldn't recognize properly. Had I known, I would have played on novice, but I really didn't think playing on normal would be that frustratingly difficult.

Ah well, a huge missed opportunity for me. I'm glad a lot of you are enjoying it so much, I'm in for the sequel, especially if the controls and camera get a rework.

I also thought Shelby looked kind of creepily like Mike Golic, for those ESPN fans that would know.

There was a behind the scenes feature I watched when you 100% the game. It shows all the voice actors. They all look identical to the characters they play in the game with the exception of Madison. In my opinion, they made her look uglier in the game.

My ending as well. I loved this game!

Spoiler:
After finding the Blue Lagoon lead in the doctor's bedroom, I had Madison GTFO of the house. I just thought he was a creepy potential rapist dude until I saw the credits at the end.
Out of curiosity, is there an ending where

Spoiler:
Ethan and his separated wife reunite?

Towards the end, does anyone know...

Spoiler:
what was going on when Ethan was looking for Shaun's location? He put the phone to his hear, and heard seagulls and foghorns and crap, but was that a recording, or what? Was it being transmitted to him or something? Confused me a bit.

^^
Spoiler:

Hearing enviromental clues to help you deduce the right spot on the map. I mean it was sound picked up by the camera while videoing Shaun.
I didn't do all the trials, so this is how I picked the right spot.

Wow. Everyone else got good or decent endings.

Mine:

Spoiler:
Ethan doesn't save Shawn (resulting in his eventual suicide), Jayden dies at the police station, Madison gets burned alive in the apartment, and the killer escapes.

It was as if I'd done everything wrong.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

OK, I have a few things to say since I just finished this game.

Spoiler:
First thing:

1) I'm gonna need a little help with the story here, because there was a time when I was playing it consistently, but had to stop for a couple weeks, and I just got back into it now and finished it, but have a little confusion.

Namely, why/how is Shelby the killer? Was his pursuit of that guy and his rich father all for show? Did he really risk his life to pin the blame on someone else (being thrown into the ocean in his car with Lauren)? And, if he is the Origami Killer, did he really care to even save Lauren? This whole this has me puzzled based on his actions throughout the entire game.

Was he killing out of sadness and confusion due to his childhood trauma with his brother? Did he get joy out of it?

2) I loved this game but geeez, I had a horrible ending. Everyone died but Shelby. Where it all went wrong was when Madison found out Shelby was the killer. She broke out of that room, but when I had to maneuver her through the fire, I pressed one wrong button and the game punished me for it--she burnt to death on the bed!

3) Decisions--here's something that I felt I screwed up in hindsight, but while playing the game, I made decisions based on certain reasons. For example, in one of the trials, you have to kill a man. I opted not to kill him because I was hoping that, at some point later down the line in the story, this man would reemerge as an important component to the story. I figured he might help me later on in determining whre Shaun was and would help me because I spared his life earlier. Guess not.

4) Essentially, my ending was this:

-Due to me completing only 3 out of the 5 trials (couldn't get through the nuclear plant one and I opted not to kill that guy) I didn't have enough letters to make out the address. I had six options and I just took a wild guess (is there another option here besides guessing?) I was wrong, as it ended up being a restaurant.

-Madison burnt to death on the bed and mostly certainly was eviscerated when Shelby's apartment exploded.

-Then, I see a scene with Shaun essentially dying in the sewer/well.

-Ethan puts a gun to his temple and takes his own life.

-Jayden has a conversation with himself, before overdosing and dying on the floor.

-Scott Shelby roams the streets among the people, undiscovered as the killer and unpunished for his crimes.

Loved the game but was a disappointing ending.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Regarding the car escape:

Spoiler:
I've seen several people say that they let Lauren die becase they didn't know what the controls were would do, and I just don't see how that's possible if you're paying attention. When you look over at Lauren, there are 2 options, kick out the window, and untie her. Now I can see not knowing which is which, as I didn't either, and I also accidentally selected the window first, but as soon as you go to select it, you can see what he's starting to do, and you don't have to keep doing it. I think you even have to do it a couple of times before it breaks. The game gives you ample time to change your mind and do something else first. It's obvious you're kicking out the window while Lauren is still unconsious and tied down. If you choose to continue doing it, it's your own damn fault that she dies.
