My mom has Verizon Fios (with phone and internet) for around $100 a month I think. I ran a speedtest there last week: 25Mbit down, 15Mbit up. All that bandwidth completely going to waste so she can check her e-mail.

I'm a sucker for the artsy, so I enjoyed it despite the issues discussed in the last few posts. However...anyone else notice the HORRIBLE dialogue tracks at the crime scene? Really really bad quality, which showed up again in the trailer too. That's greatly concerning.

Who cares if the dialogue was bad. The game looks great, and controls great IMO. I can't wait for the full game.

time warner

I really liked the game despite the huge amount of quicktime events. I think it will be pretty epic. The graphics are just beautiful. I do think they overdid the fog effect when it's raining though, kind of makes it a bit hard to see.

In this kind of game, it's one of the most important parts of the experience. It's hard to get immersed in this film noir world when most of the performances sound as if they were taken from the very first table read of the script. Imagine The Godfather with such weak performances. Not very engaging.

The controls are only decent and the best thing going for it is the different ways the story can develop (which was fun) but I can see this get tiring due to the poor controls.

All the excitement over this game got me to preorder it from Amazon and now I'm wondering if I should cancel it.

Just to clarify, it's not the dialogue per say or even the actor's performance. I'm talking about the actual recording quality. Like it sounded like the mic was pressed all the way into the speakers lips. It had a really bad quality to the actual sound. (Didn't notice it in the apartment scene, just the crime scene.)

The receptionist (or whatever) at the apartment sounded that way as well. a And he had crappy delivery. Fortunately he had only a few brief lines.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Yeah, not a good idea to release a demo for this game.

The controls just take you out of the game. I've read that with time you get better with the controls, but still. Are they doing that to make the game feel longer?

That's too bad because the story looks really engaging, I really want to like this game but the demo makes it harder for me. I mean, when we just had two games, Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed 2, with really good controls, you can do a lot of things with those controls, then comes a game that looks really great but goes back like 10 years in the controls.

I will keep playing the demo and will make my mind on release date.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Just finished playing the demo and I gotta say, I thought it was pretty cool. I can see where everyone's coming from in terms of the acting and the unusual controls, but I'm going to stick with my preorder.

I'm sure some people will say that this is like playing a movie, but for me Uncharted 1 was like playing a movie. The thing that excites me about this is the idea of consequences. In Uncharted, God of War, other QTE games, you miss the button, you die. Or you start over until you get the sequence.

This one, if you miss out, you miss out. During the fight, I pressed the wrong button and got hit rather than hitting the guy. I got excited by the idea of intentionally pushing the wrong button when the guy breaks the bottle, just to see what would happen to me if I didn't deflect it. (Or what happens to my character if I let that guy just kick the shit out of me.) That, to me, is cool. You're having to make choices on the fly, rather than say in Mass Effect where it presents you with the various options and I rack my brain trying to figure out the right one.

I played through the demo three times. Each time, something was different. That's just cool.

Yeah, it's growing on me despite its negatives. I think I may still get it for the intriguing premise and the various ways it can play out. Just have to decide if I wanna pre-order or wait 'til it drops to $30.

I hopped over to CAG last night to see what reactions are and it's a lovefest. I guess we're just whack over here.

Just to be clear : The only way to try the demo now is to go to that hammered site and then open a European PSN account? Otherwise you wait until Thursday? Is that correct?

The four pieces of evidence are:

• Short cigarette (117b)
• Origami bird
• Coffee shop C (it says "diner")
• 117h (tyre tracks).

Be care about which coffee shop you pick as there are several, and you must submit the correct one to get the code. Likewise, the writing on the "tyre tracks" is difficult to read.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Played the demo last night. It was pretty 'meh' for me. I do think the story will be really engaging and I didn't mind the QTE's, which surprised me. It just didn't seem all that immersive to me. I didn't care for the 'read your character's thoughts' aspect and I was irritated by how some actions trigger animations that interrupt what you're doing. It's goofy that a guy can't put on glasses or pull out his wallet while walking. It's also irritating that you seemingly can't run. I'll probably still get it, but I'll wait a couple months for it to hit the Target clearance bins.

I'll probably check out the demo when it goes wide on Thursday, but I've read through the description of this game three times on Wikipedia and I still have no idea what it's supposed to be like, or why people are peeing their panties over it.

Yeah, they guys at avsforum (PS3 forum) loved the demo too. There was maybe one or two guys that complained about the controls, but otherwise it was a love fest.

Groucho, if you are not already excited about this game you'll hate the demo.

Other than the audio quality issue, I loved almost everything else about it. I can see the pitfalls that people are pointing out, but it's still a purchase for me at this point.

I wasn't excited about the game. I thought it might be interesting, got a good deal on the preorder with Gold Box and ECA, so I preordered. Simple as that.

But I really really dug the demo.
