The scene after Nawman Jaden briefs the cops:

That standoff with the religious nut is a great, tense scene. I expected him to shoot at any moment while I was trying to talk him down. Then when he puts the gun down and the local cop goes to put the cuffs on him and he pulls out the cross...great moment. I'm glad I got through that scene without anybody getting shot, hurt, or killed.

Just some really incredible scenes, adding up to an amazing experience so far.
regarding Madison
Spoiler:
I think I got stabbed at the end of that. I was pissed, I thought she was dead.

And after the brief
Spoiler:
I ended up shooting the guy

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Just a heads up when you unlock bonus content if you are super religious about spoilers don't watch the bonus videos as you unlock them. Nothing that I would consider spoilers in them, but there is some dialogue in them from stuff you haven't seen yet (if you are watching these as you unlock them). Just a heads up.

Also why did they hire foreign actors to voice the characters? I don't know what country the production took place but it's just a real wonder why they went this way. You can obviously hear the accents come out during most of the speech. There's no way they couldn't find English "actors" who would work in the game.

How dare a company based in another country want to keep their product local to support their economy! Damn you French company Quantic Dream!

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

When the accents are so jarring that it takes you completely out of the story you either look to hire English actors or get people who can do the accent better. They obviously did this for Shelby. And like I said I wasn't sure where this game was made.

But come on the hiring of 3 actors that aren't local is not going to break their economy, I think we're being a tad bit over the top. I'm sure the hundreds of other people working on the game can MORE than make up for a few actors.

Perhaps the game takes place in a city where people don't have one specific accent? Why does it have to be English or American accents? It's an international game made for an international market.

Your not getting my point I guess. I wouldn't care if the people had foreign accents at all. My problem is that the actors talk in an accent, but do it so badly that they're native accent bleeds through time to time. That's the problem I have. I could give a fuck if they speak in an Ethopian accent as long as they can stick to it throughout all of their dialogue. It sounds like you are trying to paint me with this ethnocentric American attitude, which is completely false.

I'm not even alone in this thought, one of the few complaints this game gets in most reviews is the voice acting.

From Metacritic:

Sound and voice acting

Many publications were distracted by the use of non-American voice actors, who were able to mimic their characters’ American accents to varying degrees of success.

One standout flaw is that while most characters are supposed to be American, some of the actors clearly aren’t and their accents tend to slip through, making their line deliveries sound weird at times. –IGN

However, that publication added:

Really, when compared to most games, Heavy Rain has what would be considered very good voice acting. It’s just that when so much of the experience is focused on it, you tend to notice the flaws a good deal more.

The voice acting … is atrocious for the most part, but the music, at least, goes some way toward making up for that. –Destructoid
And again let me say this doesn't ruin the game for me, it was just an observation I had, nothing more.

Not painting you with that - sorry you thought as much. But you even said that it takes you out of the game in an earlier post...or am I misreading that?

The explanation you had in this post is much clearer in what you're saying - the slipping in and out of accents is what's grating to you...not the accent itself. I couldn't determine that from earlier posts.

Spoiler:
The local cop that you work with in that scene is such a douchebag that I was really hesitant to shoot the religious nut. I figured that I'd rather have that asshole get his comeuppance for egging on a clearly unstable individual than shoot the loon.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

I really hated this game. I guess I'm in the minority with that opinion, but I did not feel at all in control of the characters or the story. In fact, it just felt like a modern Dragon's Lair to me. Not to mention the horrible writing on the whole. Not sure what I was expecting (and I was excited for it and followed its development closely), but I guess I thought I'd have more freedom.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Just finished the game since I had off today. Enjoyed it. This was the ending I got:

Spoiler:

I did all the tasks, but didn't kill the drug dealer. I drank the poison reluctantly, but fortunately that wasn't real.
I rescued Shaun, at the warehouse Jayden fought the killer and eventually the Killer got fell of the conveyor belt and died. I tried to have him live by puling up from the ledge once, but they fought again and he fell, oh well.
Madison lived, and ended up with Ethan even though I don''t see her attraction to him.
Jayden was being interviewed on TV as the hero, but it appears the ARI will be the end of him (I assumed the butler guy was warning him not to use that drug, but it appears he was warning against ARI).
Lauren was cursing Scott's grave.
Next playthough it will be fun to really fuck around as scott (let hassan die, let lauren drown).
It was interesting in the credits seeing scenes I didn't in my playthrough.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

I'm have trouble consistently shaking my controller up and down to satisfy the game. I can't figure out how to do it correctly, so I'm never able to accurately complete that action. Any tips?

Shaking left to right is fine, but up and down seems completely hit or miss.

I know it's not my controller because I have two PS3 controllers and tried them both.

Any help?

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

So far this game is more annoying than enjoyable for me.

I just got done

Spoiler:

Crawling through the glass filled tunnels at the power plant - just rage inducing. The controls sucked - my guy kept turning around, camera angle shifts all of a sudden...grr.

I don't know how far in I am but if this is already into the "good" part, I'm not sure I'll finish it.

What position is your controller in when you do it? It has to stay level while you move it up and down.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Finished up the game tonight.....

(End game - Massive spoilers!)
Spoiler:
Hmm...Shelby was my favorite character so I was totally bummed to have him end up being the killer. The story requires a lot of suspension of disbelief, and honestly while I normally have trouble with doing that for film, I usually have no problem in games. But, those things aside, I feel cheated with most of the stuff involving Shelby in the game. I feel like the game was lying to me by making me go through actions with the guy. I understand the reason for his actions, to collect evidence, but anytime we got a listen in on Shelby's thoughts we were potentially being mislead and lied to. As well as the whole subplot with Kramer. Uh....wut? Disappointing.

Loved the game overall though.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Just finished. I thought the last 1/3 of the game was one hell of a ride.

Spoiler:
The scene with Jaden at the junk yard and Madison in the club were intense. Lauren drowned, I just hit a button and Shelby left her. Shelby going on a shooting spree at Kramer's afterwards was fun though

My ending

Spoiler:
Ethan, Madison, and Shaun are house hunting and find a place to live.

I did like how Ethan has been through hell, his son is in mortal danger, yet he still takes the time to bang Madison

Jaden died with the glasses on. He was bleeding from his nose and eyes

Ethan shot Shelby as he was about to kill Madison, Shelby then had a long fall into the water and died.
