Nope. It just popped up in the Gold Box last summer; if you bought it then, the discount is still applied. I preordered it back then as well -- My last active ECA discount

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

I played the demo and I thought it was average at best. I may eventually get it, but not right away.

I thought the controls were not great. Walking with the R2 button was annoying.

Also, DARK games always annoy me. When i was walking down the alley, I couldn't really see where I was going. Maybe it was because I was playing during the daytime at my house, but dark games are not my favorite regardless.

I had to adjust the brightness in the settings. I couldn't see shit either.

Yeah, this game requires a dimly lit room. I could barely see the crime scene during a daytime playthrough. But they were going for a film noir look so I get it even if they overdid it.

I just played the demo (in a dimly lit room). I think I liked it, probably gonna keep my pre-order. hopefully we'll see some reviews before I need to cancel or not. I'd be interested in the length.

Heavy Rain:
- Brilliant combination of a unique control scheme and high quality story
- Only a game could reach out to audiences like this
- Your emotions will be fully drained
- A heavy story targeted towards adults
- Great branching story lines and endings, smart and interesting control scheme
- Psychologically frightening
- Acting is great

Wow, 37/40 from Famitsu is good. I just got a hold of the demo tonight (someone at work today mentioned the Kotaku post about it), but I'm on my way out the door for BioShock 2. Hopefully get to try the demo out tomorrow before work.

I don't think their reviews are like that
I believe each of the 4 scores listed 10,9,8,10 are one total score each by 4 different reviewers

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Gave the demo a whirl, it's definitely interesting and the story lines seem very cool but honestly I just am not a fan of the controls. I hate quick time events and while it's better than other games, I still am not a fan. Also, the walking controls are worse than the original Resident Evil style controls (and I know people bitched about those like crazy). I felt like I was trying to drive a Camaro on a skating rink getting the guy to walk where I wanted.
I'm definitely still interested in it but probably will wait to see if I can get it on sale or rent it if it ends up not being super lengthy.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

Given how evasive the producer of this game was regarding the length in an episode of gametrailers, I have a feeling that even in its longest possible playthrough the game won't extend much beyond the 15 to 20 hour mark.

Which, depending on your tastes, may or may not be a bad thing.

I thought the controls were fine. You get used to it after a couple minutes. At least I did.

Sorry but a developer has no reason to be evasive about a 15-20 hour game. I think 10 hours on the high side is why they are being evasive.

That's why I said "longest possible playthrough". As in it won't be the norm but rather how long it'd take if you took your sweet-ass time.

I'm sure most will breeze through this in about 10 hours with all four playable characters alive, unless the storyline dictates otherwise.

IGN: 9.0

"One playthrough won't take you all that long (eight hours maybe), but you have lots of reasons to go back and try new stuff. Experimentation is rewarded well."

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

I love how it says that there is no game over screen. No matter the turn out the story continues, even if the character dies. That will definitely make your choices have much more weight than any other game I can think of. Will also give a reason to replay the game multiple times to see what the outcomes are. I know I did the demo on the seedy hotel like 4 times to see what all the outcomes are and to see if I could get a perfect on the quicktime stuff. This game is going to be great. I have that week off for vacation so that is awesome too.

Top? Naw, but an interesting game I'm sure. Critically it isn't quite ranking with the Uncharted and Gears of War games in terms of exclusives.

I'm curious to see how it does sell since the adventure genre was declared dead nearly a decade ago. And from what I recall, Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy didn't really set the world ablaze.

...also kind of curious to see how those episodic adventure games have been selling.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)

watch out for the destructoid review. There are some pretty heavy spoilers in there. I stopped reading after a paragraph. I really fucking hate it when a reviewer puts bad spoilers like that in a review and doesn't warn anyone of it. If you want a review then check out ign's video review. It is completely spoiler free

Why do people always ask that when sales are brought up.

Assurance of a follow-up is always nice and is more likely with good sales.
