What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
All the daily VGT polls have shown that there is a core group of gamers getting both systems, either at launch or in the near future. These people have no interest in gloating over something that isn't a big deal to them. If games were graphics and nothing more, the PC master race would have already swept the world. It hasn't. It won't.
Not everyone can or should just blindly switch over to Sony because of video game pixels. As the diehard Sony fans just discovered, they like media stuff too. They just didn't know it until it was taken away from them. Shit happens. Shit happens you don't like. Not everyone takes their ball and goes home, or decides to just abandon their team. Some people have the ability to be rational human beings, not the apes from 2001 smashing shit to bits because something happens to the team they never want to be a part of in the first place.

I can say with a very high degree of confidence that if the shoe were on the other foot and the PS4 were clearly under powered despite being more expensive, that civil discussion would absolutely be happening, and I'd have a vote in the "none/Twikoff" column.

The only part of that I agree with is that you'd be voting "none".

Here's what I don't get, and since chess is our resident Sony homer maybe he can answer... Why do Sony fans see this as a definitive either/or choice with their team being the only logical right answer because pixels/$100?
Last I checked, for serious gaming there are three consoles and the wonderful world of PCs to choose from. What's wrong with supporting more than one of them? Why are people with the means and desire to be gamers and not console jockeys "wrong"? Yes, the PS4 appears to be more powerful right now. So what? Why would a person with two or all three consoles care, at all?
Pixels are important to SOME people, not all.
The price difference is important to SOME people, not all.
The camera is important to SOME people, not all.
MP3 playback is important to SOME people, not all.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
I just can't help but want to dive into this stuff, and I can't believe in a gaming forum that I'm the only one. If I were spending half a grand on a console, I'd want to know: What's the bottleneck, why is it there, can it be overcome, etc.
The only part of that I agree with is that you'd be voting "none".

The discussion right now is that it's a shame. It sucks. There's no one arguing that it's a good thing. But some people really care about the issue and some don't. You saw it in the COD thread when people started to say "shut up about the fucking resolution, who cares."
Also, you haven't exactly presented yourself as someone who wants to hear both sides of the issue, so understand that people might not want to engage in serious resolution discussions with someone who is just going to reply with okay.gif

The short answer is the same as last gen for me: The consoles are too much alike for me to rationalize buying both, so I weigh every pro and con of each, and I make a choice. I'm naturally biased toward that choice because there were good reasons that made it the choice for me in the first place. Others will buy both and never play one of them, but they will still like to believe that they have no bias, which is utter nonsense.

ALMOST ALL

Yes, but not being a game developer or a Microsoft engineer, you can't. It would be pages and pages of guessing and speculation and "I bets" and "Probably becauses" that would lead to conspiracy theories and other total nonsense. One day we will know why the Xbox One launch games were fucked up. Today isn't that day.
What better day than BEFORE you spend your money on it? The lack of desire to research a semi-major purchase frankly baffles me.

Almost all? Both consoles will sell out through January or be in extremely limited supply. Wii U will be readily available.
Very few? The Sony camera has been a staple on the Amazon best seller list for a while. You like that list.
The last is just your speculation based on your boy on Twitter.

Who isn't researching their $500 purchase? You think because the Xbox One thread at what is primarily not a gaming website isn't burning Microsoft to the ground means that everyone buying an Xbox One is just a blind fanboy without the capacity for critical thinking?
Again, not everyone cares as much as you do about the pixels.

Can we add a poll option for X1 + new Zelda 3DS XL...that's what I'm buying. Going to be an expensive ass day! See people, it's ok to like and buy more than 1 thing. Games are fun.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
As someone who's getting a One at launch, the 720p news is definitely concerning. That doesn't change the fact that I desperately want to play Dead Rising 3, Quantum Break, Crimson Dragon, and Titanfall but not a single PS4 exclusive that's been revealed so far.
As it has been for every other generation of videogames since I was old enough to hold a controller, graphics and visuals are at the bottom of my list of reasons for wanting to play games. And that's what it boils down to.

I don't think there is hype for it at all. That’s kind of upsetting since it is honestly the game I am most excited to buy. I played the last one religiously in college and I'm fucking thrilled to see another installment coming out.

To my eye, the PS360 and the PS4X1 specifically are too much alike and rely too much on multiplats to bother owning both, but I own a couple of Wiis and I'll also buy a WiiU when the price is right.

And no, that doesn't require burning MS to the ground. But don't you find it a little bit alarming that the "xbox hater troll" has been absolutely right about so many things related to X1 hardware and software? Maybe it isn't trolling at all. Maybe it's just predictions you don't like that almost always turn out to be facts.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
chess, the issue is that nobody gives as much as a fuck as YOU do. Those of us who are partial to MS are so because the last gen gave us a better experience (I'll argue the Xbox 360 controller is the best of all time) and similarly Sony supporters may say the same. As MoviePage mentioned, what exclusive is Sony releasing at launch (or launch +6 months) that compels anyone to prefer that system? I'm still getting a PS4 - but mostly because I know great games like Uncharted and The Last of Us will be available at some point.
I read your posts and it almost feels like you're getting paid $1 per each PS4 sold. You want to bring up "facts" and just argue them. Most of us are over it -- we just want the games so we can start playing.

This notion that all games now have to be 1080p "because" comes from the Internet. The console makers made no promises about resolution. Whatever resolution it turns out to be on the One is the best it looks on consoles. No scandal. No controversy.

Perhaps it's just your pretentious nature regarding this discussion. I'd put you on "ignore" but then there'd only be about 10 posts in 3 different threads

It's on Source Engine. My toaster can run Source Engine at 1080p.
I've been right about everything from stupid stuff like the power brick and pre-rendered lighting in Forza to slightly relevant stuff like the late November launch to bigger stuff like DRM, hardware shortcomings and 720p resolutions of specific games, and I've been consistently accused of "trolling" for things that I turned out to be absolutely right about.
I don't even have a clue as to what this is referring to.

Re: What consoles are you buying this year? Monday Edition!
I asked for a NES because Mario blew my mind when I was 5.
I asked for a SNES because my friend had one.
I bought a PS1 because Metal Gear Solid looked amazing to me, especially since I loved the original NES game.
I bought a Dreamcast because I worked at a video store and the system and games were liquidated.
I bought a PS2 because Prince of Persia and one of the Burnout games looked sweet.
I bought a 360 because Burnout looked even better than before.
I bought a PS3 because I wanted to play Uncharted and MGS4.
Somewhere in the middle, I upgraded a gaming PC just for Doom 3 and Half Life 2, I sold and rebought a Dreamcast, bought a Genesis, DS, etc.
NONE of these decisions were driven by resolution; even the PC.
This time around, resolution suddenly matters to people. For cross-platform launch games, I get it, and if it continues, I know where I'm spending my money. But for exclusives? I don't give a shit. Not even slightly.
This is like the HD DVD / Blu-ray format war all over again. People (myself included) argued specs for like three years straight. Then most of us came to a realization before HD DVD bowed out. I like MOVIES, and I don't care how I have to buy or rent them. So I bought a combo drive for my HTPC and stopped caring so much.
I like GAMES and I'm going to buy systems that let me play the games that look interesting to me. That includes the XO, PS4, and PC. Wii U as well, as soon as I convince my brother to sell me his.
