I love the 360 controller but the Xbone controller is better all around.

In regards to the controller update, most of the new Xbox One headsets should include a mini-USB cable in the packaging. I know my Polk 4shot did ...

... now the quality of the Polk 4shot on the other hand.

It's been able to do this since launch

The problem is that it's pretty inconsistent with updates. Sometimes they install automatically, and sometimes they don't. I can't figure out why, at least on my system.

i've noticed it wants you to put the game disc back in to finish some of the updates. Maybe to authorize it?

Why would they even care if they update a game you no longer own? If you don't have the disc, you can't play the game. What harm is there in pushing the auto update for anyone who still has the game on their HDD?

And thanks to DVDChris. I'll have to check how my system is set up to see if I can enable auto-updates.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

I've got a quick question I'm hoping someone can answer before I pick up my Titanfall bundle tomorrow. Does the Xbone Kinect use the same type of base as the 360 one? I really only have one workable place to put it, which happens to be mounted on a wall. I'd just as soon swap out the old for the new, but that won't work if the new one uses a base that won't fit in the wall holder. If they are different, can I just not use the camera functionality of the new Kinect? I know Microsoft took some steps to minimize what's required with it, but don't know if you can set it in a position that just ignores camera functionality altogether or not.

The base is very different. You can use the console without Kinect, or you can place it out of sight, but it will introduce some inconveniences (no auto sign-in, for example).

They have stands that go on top of the TV, but that might not work for you.

Well, if anyone could pull it off, it might be Amazon... that said, there is a small blurb about "the end of the internet" at the bottom of the article so take everything on Motley Fool with a grain of salt.

That article seems a bit premature. The systems haven't been even out for 4 months, and silly articles like that are already talking about Microsoft dumping Xbox? I shouldn't be surprised, there has been talk about this well before the Xbox One was even released. Just rumors and talk at this point, and it's been going on for years

That said, you couldn't even play South Park without one.

That's what frustrates me. If the X1 was backward compatible, I'd have bought one on Day 1. I've got a backlog of 30-35 360 games, and I don't intend on upgrading until I'm through those. It just makes no sense to.

Thanks for the response. I'll probably just go out of sight to start out and see how much it bugs me. With my projector & screen setup, I've only got about a 2' wide x 1' tall section of wall that would work and the 360 Kinect is mounted there. Only other spots are on top of my center channel speaker or on top of the Xbone itself, neither of which seem to be advisable. Or I suppose I could try to attach it to the top of the original Kinect, but that seems less than ideal as well.

It's an investment blog, there is no real backing to any of it. One of their guys has been calling for the downfall of Netflix since just after its crash a couple years ago. That has worked out well for him.

True, they could have easily made some sort of emulator if backwards compatibility was a real issue.

I'm moving my XO into the basement tonight to hook it up the the projector. That means no Kinect for awhile, since I don't have an extension cable yet.

I'm going to miss auto sign-in.

If it could've been "easily" made, they probably would've done it. The 360's backwards compatibility with the original Xbox was pretty dismal, and the Xbox is a more straightforward system to emulate than the 360.

Here's an article with some additional details: http://www.totalxbox.com/67910/featu...compatibility/

TL;DR: The 360 used PowerPC architecture whereas the XO uses x86 architecture.

For the fact that the Xbox One technically has three OS on it already, it does not need a fourth one (alongside the additional hardware) to support 360 compatibility. For both Microsoft and Sony to switch to x86 architecture means their ninth-generation consoles should have backwards compatibility with the eighth. It's a trade-off.

Point taken. I just think it's funny the Wii U has no problems with Wii games. Just ironic is all.

The Wii U shares a lot of the same architecture as the Wii (which shares the same key architecture as the GameCube), so all that stuff plays really nicely together.

If figured that was the case immediately after I posted. I need to stop doubting my thoughts.

What I guess saddens me is that the game market is going to be driven by indie games. Yes, some of them are great, but after a while, you need to have a system that justifies upgrading to current gen. They have to actually be innovative. If all Sony wants to do is help sell small games and depend on that market, I just don't see them making a whole lot of money in the long run.

This idea that PS4 games run so much better than the Xbox One games is silly. Just watch Digital Foundry side by side comparisons, and only about a couple of games maybe stand out. Tomb Raider at 60 fps vs 30 on the Xbox.

re: Xbox One: S $249 Now / X $499 November 7 2017

my only fault for the Xbox is it has no franchises left. Halo and Gears played themselves out last gen, Fable never hit greatness, Mass Effect went multiplat. Titanfall is. Of course, Halo is still exceptionally popular.

I know there are some new IPs coming out (Ryse not withstanding, I thought it was pretty awful) and I'm really curious to see them.

I think you'll see (and have seen) plenty of innovation coming out of indie games; they can afford to take chances that the AAA franchises can't. I can't seem to be able to get my brain in a place where I can appreciate them as much as I know I should, though.

I don't understand the suggestion that "all Sony wants to do is help sell small games and depend on that market". I think they're trying to be open to everyone and everything, responding to the frustration many developers had with Microsoft during the 360 era. Microsoft has said that they want to do the same, although they don't appear to be there quite yet.
