Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

Man, it's been a full week since I placed my order at Walmart and nothing has changed. "Arriving by October 18th. Preparing order. Tracking available soon."
I don't get it. Why sell an Xbox if you're not going to have the inventory for another two months? Maybe I should still try to buy it somewhere else instead. I've never seen an online store ever do this before, outside of preorders, or "In Stock Soon" messages at Amazon.

Was hoping for a remake, since MACHINEGAMES worked on it, but anyway.

Played a little Quake. Outdated graphics, sure, played very fast and loose, but so far pretty fun. Did this precede the others like DOOM or Wolfenstein whatever?

Quake was the "spiritual successor" to Doom/Doom II at the time. It was one of the bigger steps in multi-player shooters and a break away from the BBS setup for FPS (in favor of direct internet) that came before it.

but mostly, it was the Shareware CD that was easy to crack and contained every ID Software title and had the rad Nine Inch Nails soundtrack.

Bulletin Board Systems. They were common in the dial-up era.

I’m sorry, what do you mean by bulletin board in reference to game?

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

It was one of the main ways to meet people and setup games online in the early 90s, and then there was also a service called DWANGO.

Things were way more complicated back then but weirdly kinda great.

I’m seeing the sea gate expansion card for 220 online. Can you store and play games off it or is it like PS5 and you can only store games and not play them?

if you're talking about the SSD expansion, then yes, of course you can store and play. in fact games play much better on either the internal or a bought second SSD storage.

Sony will soon have the ability to also play off an internal expansion drive of almost any make and any size up to 2 TB (as long as it is of the recommended size and minimum speed) . It's in beta now. But yes the XSX has the ability to expand the internal playable memory by 1 TB with a proprietary memory card.

Cloud gaming coming to consoles. Surprised it took this long:

Phil Spencer, obviously doing his part as hype-man for the service, gives his comments about it, too:

Still... I think he's right on this. I've avoided a few games because of the larger download sizes. But being able to stream them first to try them out makes that decision much easier.

Xbox One’s ‘Black Screen Of Death’ Is Bricking Consoles (Again)

Xbox One’s ‘Black Screen Of Death’ Is Bricking Consoles (Again) (yahoo.com)

I couldn't find the Xbox one thread, but I know there's still a lot of folks out there who still play Xbox One.

Re: Xbox Series X - 11/10/20

The black screen of death appears to have largely affected those who’ve registered as an Xbox Insider, an opt-in program that allows players to test-drive upcoming console functions before they’re rolled out on a wide scale.

In an August 20 blog post describing the release notes for beta-level members (Xbox Insider is tiered), Microsoft said that black screen of death issue has been addressed. Microsoft said the same thing in an August 17 blog post, too. (That note isn’t present in Microsoft’s August 13 post about Xbox Insider beta-level updates, suggesting that’s the patch that sparked it.)
So you had to:
- be an Xbox Insider
- have the Aug 13 beta patch but not the Aug 17 or later patch

Sounds like clickbait bullshit to me.

edit: and this is the relevant thread: https://forum.dvdtalk.com/video-game...-7-2017-a.html

I'm not so much the limited edition controller type, but that Halo-themed Elite is pretty slick.
