I cant help but look with shame and digust at people that try to get into collecting strictly for the monitary gain rather than the joy of collectiing.

On a few occasions, I've bought $15-$18 worth of stuff at Big Lots and sold it for credit at a local shop I normally frequent for 2-3x the value I paid.

Argh. I just bought only 40 DVDs because I was pressed for time. If Big Lots stores were closer to me, I'd pass by more often to get the remaining 100 or so titles I've recently seen listed in this thread.

Thanks for the info...it worked for me. My local BL had only a couple of the HBO titles on Monday, but after reading your post I went back yesterday (Wed.) and they were loaded with multiples of most of them. I wouldn't have checked back so soon if it wasn't for your post. Thanks again!

That's what the staff at the one near me told me too. BUT I've seen new DVD stock getting put out on a Thursday evening. I think it sometimes depends on just how overwhelmed the staff is when it comes time to stock the shelves.

Due to my frequency of visits I'm on a first name basis with several of the checkers/stockers and have been able to get them to look for and hold titles I'm interested in purchasing. It's also nice to be able to call, ask for certain clerks, and simply ask if there is any new stock.

I gave up on trying to find a flipper Sheena and ordered one from that auction site. We'll see if it shows up and is actually as it was advertised. The price was cheap but I have my doubts.

Anyone know if The Cheap Detective came in WS? I've only been able to find FS.

There is one that says it has both Widescreen and Full Screen presentations (you know side A, side B), The UPC is the same, it looks the same, and I haven't watch the movie so I don't know for sure

I was forced to pick up Idle Hands and Girlfight this way.

Cheap Detective was originally a flipper.

Believe me - WS or FS, the quality of transfer is very bad on Sheena. It seems like a dump of VHS onto digital format. The WS version is not even a flipper - it has both versions on one side (you can imagine the compression if its this way)

Having said that, I wish I had the foresight on future value of this WS version before trading it at DVDPlanet in 2005 for $3 :-(

I just went to my store and they have a lot of the HBO titles now. They must have put them out in the last couple days. So anyone that hasn't seen them yet you should check your stores.

The Sheena DVD used to be kind of rare but Big Lots has recently had a ton of them. The catch is, most of them are fullscreen(FS) only. I happen to hate fullscreen and generally won't watch movies in that format if I know there's a choice. I'll just wait until I get my hands on the WS.

That being said, there are a ton of them on ebay right now(likely thanks to the studio dump received by Biglots) so I don't know that they will ever be rare again.

***************************************

Anyone willing to sell me a copy of the Cheap Detective in WS? Maybe trade for something that you can't find at your local Biglots?

My BL finally got the huge restock. All the HBO stuff, All the sony stuff and now a bunch of $4 IMAX titles ("Bears", "Wolves", "Sharks") some "Undersea Adventures" type stuff and a few other assorted oddball titles.
I got 1 each of all the Superbits plus Vampires Los Muertos, Anatomy 2, AutoFocus, & Steamboy. Sadly the only Sweet & Lowdowns they has were FS, as were the Sheenas. I had already bought a FS Sheena anyway because the movie is a hoot.
As a bonus, this has killed my desire to spend a pile of money at DD's big sale, so I'll save even more money.

I picked up some more titles today:

Bad Education (NC-17 version)
Chris Rock HBO Special
Talk to Her
Steamboy DC
Jeopardy: History of the show
Laurel Canyon
Sweet and Lowdown: WS/FS flipper (My store had about 6 copies of the flipper and 6 copies of the FS only version)

I still haven't seen the Dark Crystal, Memento, Spaceballs, Labyrinth, etc. stock. I wonder if I missed them or if the store hasn't gotten them yet.

A small restock on HBO titles so I picked up

Breast Men
Best Of Arliss: Volume 1
Citizen Cohn
Point of Origin
Russell Simmons Presents: Def Poetry Season 1
Russell Simmons Presents: Def Poetry Season 2
and for some reason I also bought
Stephen King's Night Flier

They had a few copies of The Comeback (which turns out to be a pretty good series) I could pick one up if anyone has The Hitchhiker 2 or 3 for trade.

I just had another good run at Big Lots.

Up for Trade:
Sheena (WS/FS flipper)
Sweet and Lowdown (WS/FS flipper)

I have pretty much found everything that I was looking, but there are still a couple of obscure titles that have been spotted in stores that I haven't found yet:

Spetters (MGM World Films)
Little Women (with book)
The Dying Gaul

If you're interested, but can't make a trade, then we can work out a deal via Paypal. Thanks.

^Looks like they are:
From the dvdtalk review: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/26307...ction/?___rd=1

"Matador and Law of Desire are new to DVD, while Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and All About My Mother have been remastered. The Flower of My Secret, Live Flesh, Talk to Her and Bad Education are identical to earlier DVD releases from 2005, 2001, 2003, and 2005, respectively."

Don't knock yourself out looking for this one. I don't think anyone said they actually found Spetters at Big Lots.

yeah, I have the set, and the discs are pretty random looking--obviously repackaged.

The HBO titles will be listed in tomorrow's print ad, which tends to cause a mad rush in this area. You should probably go shopping today if that happens in your part of the country, too.

I went to a BL store in Greenville earlier today, and they were totally stacked. I picked up two I haven't been able to find anywhere else (Angels in America and Taxicab Confessions), and even picked up the OOP Lumivision release of Rock 'N' Roll High School - click here to check out an old DVDTalk review of it. It's not the exact same DVD, but I'm pretty sure the exact same things are on both DVDs.

It was pretty weird too, since for the first time I've ever been buying DVDs at Big Lots a worker was stocking the DVD shelves as I was looking over everything. The best days to check seems to be Wednesday evening, and either Saturday or Sunday.
