Also for those looking for more shorts the Zombie Roadkill web-series is pretty fun.

Edit: I mean awesome, but short, much too short.

Two, "non-short" films count as one even if only 40 minutes ("academy-length").

This "bias" help preserve the film-centric nature of the Challenge for the purists who hate the TV inclusion.
I think I was confused by the "Any combination that gets you to 90 minutes can be used for 1 entry" being in the same paragraph as the TV explanation.

The way you explained it makes perfect sense to me now.

Thanks, Trevor.

I suppose you could watch one 30 min show, and an hour show and count it. I think the 90 minutes came about from other challenge rules.
In an act of organizational insanity that I'm sure only Trevor will appreciate, I segregated TV content from short films during the Animation Challenge. Looking back, I should have at least combined my final leftovers.

I think the TV rules are to allow for more variety, but since they are more easily/readily available to watch, they need more "rules" so to speak (or it wouldn't be much of a challenge).
It's the commercials, actually, that account for the TV rules. The average hour long episode is about 46 minutes in length these days, with 14 minutes out of the hour given over to commercial breaks. If you were to watch two hour long TV episodes over the air, it would take you two hours. Without the commercials, you're looking at just over 90 minutes of viewing time. This is why two 46-minute episodes are worth an entry either as a combined 90 minutes of content OR as two hours of TV.

Yeah, I think Chad explains it very well in the rules except for that slight possible editing mistake. Putting that line so close to the TV content rules is a bit confusing.

Just watched this. Complete and utter crap. My generally positive feelings towards you are now diminished.

Manhunter vs. Red Dragon

...just watched both of these recently. while i liked Red Dragon a little more, it struck me at how exact the two movies were. exact in that the dialogue was almost verbatim, which would lead me to wonder...did Thomas Harris just use his screenplay for Manhunter on Red Dragon since he wrote both for the screen or was the screenplay just verbatim from his book?

i find it odd that almost exactly the same dialogue would be used in both movies and not a lot of change.

I never said it would be any good! I just said it was airing, and that I learned about it from a tweet by a band whose song appears in the movie.

And now you're turning me on.
And to prove I'm not just blowing smoke up your skirt, you can check out my Animation Challenge list (link in signature) and see my leftover short films and TV content counts were never combined.

If it has a monster, it counts for the challenge. Cloverfield? Counts. Alien? Counts. Creature From the Black Lagoon? Hells yeah, it counts.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 6th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

After seeing it in a few lists and remembering being interested about the film when it played in the theatre here a few months backs, I popped on Frozen today. It's not too often that I can say I've seen something fresh in a horror film but this film was something new. No stalkers in masks. No monsters. Real life fears. I also thought it was amazing how the film made me feel clasutrophobic in such an open landscape as it maintained it's encapsulated space. The acting started out as your typical douchebag young people movie but turned out some great performances. I like films that get me thinking and this one made me wonder what I would do in this type of situation and, man, I couldn't imagine. That's where the real fright lies. Thanks to all who tipped me off on this one. Also, in most modern horror films (and, let's face it, in those 80s flicks I grew up on) I seldom really felt for the characters plight. In Frozen I did care about the characters and there were a few really amazing moments of tenderness, horror, embarassment and sadness created in a believable way. Great film.

I agree completely with your review. I found myself wondering what I would do in each situation that they encountered and having no answers whatsoever.

I can usually handle any kind of blood and guts on screen, but
Spoiler:
When that guy realized that his legs had broken, it had me cringing and gripping the side of my couch!!!

And that part was played so real, too. In a lesser movie we would have had the male leads continue to play the "macho" role but in this filmt he characters were overcome by fear and openly admited to it.

The scene near the end where
Spoiler:
Parker, after freeing herself of the lift, is inching her way down the slope to a hopeful freedom, comes across Joe's torn body was very effective. As a viewer I had been expecting help to arrive any moment btu here was the last kick of hope exiting as you realize, shit, he didn't make it...how is she?

Emma Bell was amazing, too. Her one speach about her dog was quite touching.

Sorry for the confusion. It's been revised to read:

"Any combination of shorts and/or television programming that gets you to 90 minutes can be used for 1 entry."

And on the the opposite end of the spectrum there's those that advocate the addition ...where are they hiding? It's getting mighty lonely over in the TV Discussion Thread. Not one little single post as of yet.

I was under the impression there was interest in a separate thread. But hey, it's honestly no big deal. Personally I'm keeping TV shows to a minimum, aside from maybe the occasional Halloween special.

Wait. Now you've made it more confusing.

So which is it, four 30 minute shows to equal an entry, or three? Pretty sure the other Challenges were always four. If it's just three, it leaves a strange discrepancy between counting for 60 and 30 minute shows.

I think the wording was really clear before. It uses the same standards as the other challenges on the basis that an "hour" TV show doesn't have 60 minutes of content, most of the time. Obviously, an hour of short films has around 60 minutes of content, right? So there's the difference.

[My two cents]

About to throw in my first movie of the day after taking some time off to see some football (which sucked hard since the Ravens lost). Going to knock off the giallo checklist with Seven Deaths In The Cats Eye. Hoping its a good one since this is one of my favorite genres.

Anyone know if there are any MST3K or RiffTrax available online for free?

There are a few MSTs on Hulu. Of the ones they offer now, I'd recommend Monster A-Go-Go and Horrors of Spider Island, both funny episodes with a horror film as their material.

Has anyone see Paura - Lucio Fulci Remembered Vol. 1? It is a 4 hour documentary on Fulci, that I somehow missed - just ordered it and documentaries on Bava and Aregento , hopefully they arrive by months end.

I just finished watching Twisted Nerve, I loved it! I've been looking for a copy forever and noticed Amazon had it via burn on demand, happy to own it.

The great thing about this challenge is, if I dislike a movie, I'm able to sell it on Amazon for more or the same as what I paid, since everyone is buying horror films right now.

Yea its okay. It has a lot of short little interviews from people he worked with in various ways. Its interesting to see how different opinions on him are from his colleagues. Its also a nice thing that you can break up (and they even make it easy for you to break up) into segments.
