just finished watching Suspiria, one of my favorite films of all time, I showed it to my girlfriend for the first time, who loved it also.

about to watch Fear No Evil, which I've never seen before followed by some Elvira (I hope)

Thanks for the confirmation! I had hoped Repulsion would be. It's one of my favorite movies of all time... especially on Blu-Ray by Criterion.

I don't see any remaining themes that would fit Repulsion unless I'm missing something. It's an excellent film.

The DVD release I have is part of a 2-disc, 4-film collection from Timeless Media Group called "The Golden Age of Silent Films." They re-released the box recently with two additional silent films.

I really wish they'd done an Abbott & Costello monsters box set in the same aesthetic as the rest of the monster legacy collection releases. That would have been sweet. I didn't get around to the box set with the busts, but I've seen it and it looked pretty good.

I had to update my list to include those additional titles even though they do not not crossover with the others. While one could argue about the inclusion of "The Invisible Man" and "Creature from the Black Lagoon" series, without "The Mummy" titles the "classic monsters" just seem a bit incomplete. Plus "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" is pretty much a sequel to "House of Dracula" and includes a "guest appearance" by "The Invisible Man".

Here's my updated list:

Spoiler:
02/14/31 - Dracula [Dracula Legacy Collection]
03/11/31 - Dracula (Spanish version) [Dracula Legacy Collection]
11/21/31 - Frankenstein [Frankenstein Legacy Collection]
12/22/32 - The Mummy [Mummy Legacy Collection]
11/13/33 - The Invisible Man [Invisible Man Legacy Collection]
04/22/35 - Bride of Frankenstein [Frankenstein Legacy Collection]
05/13/35 - Werewolf of London [Wolf Man Legacy Collection]
05/11/36 - Dracula's Daughter [Dracula Legacy Collection]
01/13/39 - Son of Frankenstein [Frankenstein Legacy Collection]
01/12/40 - The Invisible Man Returns [Invisible Man Legacy Collection]
12/27/40 - The Invisible Woman [Invisible Man Legacy Collection] *
11/20/40 - The Mummy's Hand [Mummy Legacy Collection]
12/12/41 - The Wolf Man [Wolf Man Legacy Collection]
03/13/42 - The Ghost of Frankenstein [Frankenstein Legacy Collection]
08/07/42 - Invisible Agent [Invisible Man Legacy Collection] *
10/23/42 - The Mummy's Tomb [Mummy Legacy Collection]
03/05/43 - Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man [Wolf Man Legacy Collection]
11/05/43 - Son of Dracula [Dracula Legacy Collection]
12/01/44 - House of Frankenstein [Frankenstein Legacy Collection]
06/09/44 - The Invisible Man's Revenge [Invisible Man Legacy Collection]
07/07/44 - The Mummy's Ghost [Mummy Legacy Collection]
12/22/44 - The Mummy's Curse [Mummy Legacy Collection]
12/07/45 - House of Dracula [Dracula Legacy Collection]
05/17/46 - She-Wolf of London [Wolf Man Legacy Collection]
06/15/48 - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein [Best of Abbott & Costello, Vol. 3]
03/07/51 - Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man [Best of Abbott & Costello, Vol. 3] *
03/05/54 - Creature from the Black Lagoon [Creature from the Black Lagoon Legacy Collection]
??/06/55 - Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy [Best of Abbott & Costello, Vol. 4]
07/22/55 - Revenge of the Creature [Creature from the Black Lagoon Legacy Collection]
04/26/56 - The Creature Walks Among Us [Creature from the Black Lagoon Legacy Collection]

* Not truly horror but part of the set and series.

I'm hoping to watch all of these in order of release as a grand finale.
I have an integrated list of all six Legacy Collections, but I never got around to adding the Abbott & Costello features; thanks for doing the legwork! I'm updating my list accordingly, and by next October hopefully I'll have gotten around to acquiring the titles not presently in my library and I'll gorge on the whole "series." That sounds like a ton of fun.

Was out today and discovered the release of the theatrical version of Grindhouse. I had no idea that this came out! I held off on the current releases because I liked the two films joined with the trailers.Glad I waited.

Forgot to mention that I'm postponing the trivia question until Tuesday. Prepare for an easy one this time around.

EDIT: And since the difficulty level drops, I'll throw all correct answers into a random number generator and determine the winner that way.

I've never seen Hitchcock's Rebecca but don't think it's challenge-worthy, would any suggest it count as a horror entry? I'll probably just burn a wildcard.

Just finished watching a bunch of shorts. Got enough to get over the 90 minute mark. I'll probably watch a few more before the end of the month, was kind of a nice change of pace.

Now, I'm watching Sorority House Massacre. Probably watch part 2 later tonight, and then I think I will have to order the new Slumber Party Massacre set. I love these movies.

I must say that I'm slightly creeped out by this. I'm currently watching "Rebecca" for the first time, wondering if it would be part of the challenge.

Thanks a bunch! I had no idea this was released on Blu; I think after 10 years I can justify a double-dip.

Man, these baseball playoffs have sucked me in again this year and slowed me way down in my march to 100. Guess that's why October is my favorite month, combining my joy of that sport and horror movies into a month-long state of happiness.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 6th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

Instead of watching a few movies I went out with some friends and went to a local haunted hayride/house. The hayride sucked big time, but the house was fun and had the craziest spinning room/bridge thing I've ever been in. Usually those things are no problem for me, but I almost fell down because it was so fast and a couple friends actually went down haha.

I'll probably just turn in earlyish for the night and start the movies early tomorrow for a lazy sunday with nothing but horror and the Ravens on the schedule.

This is what I did last May for the "Make Your Own Challege" It was a lot of fun!

On the first I watched "Universal Horror" the feature length documentary, then starting on the second I watched one movie each day.

I watched the trailer, then the film, then the documentary, then the film with comentary, then the trailer with comentary on Trailers From Hell.

Some films like "The Invisible Woman" didn't have trailers, comentaries or documentaries.

I ended up with 41 Total

30 films
9 rewatches with commentary
1 rewatch with new score
1 feature length documentary about the films

Plus
8 short documentaries about the films
1 introduction
22 theatrical trailers
5 theatrical trailers with commentary on Trailers From Hell

Our local station dropped the ball yet again and did not broadcast Elvira, so I watched the original Wizard of Gore and quite liked it. Now off to re-watch Suspiria again.

I swear, you folks would argue over the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin (because angels do not dance--the exception being the Principality Aziraphale, who once learned to do the Gavotte. ...)

If it has a monster, it counts for the challenge. Cloverfield? Counts. Alien? Counts. Creature From the Black Lagoon? Hells yeah, it counts.

On the whole I concur, but I just can't get into Giants/Phillies. I'm indifferent about both teams, no matter how much of a National League guy I am. I like the Yankees, but I think I'm rooting for Texas in all this. I think it's good for the sport to have teams like this become competitive--especially by doing it old school like the Ryan Express wants.

I know I've seen Universal Horror; I'm wanting to say I caught it on a TV broadcast but I can't be sure. Has it had a standalone DVD release or is it something included with something else? And I'm wholly unfamiliar with Trailers from Hell, but I gather it's a trailer compilation with commentaries? I could totally get into something like that!

Anyway, we just finished with The Lost Boys, a longtime favorite of my wife's, and a first time viewing for me. I see it as the missing link between The Goonies and Twilight, and clearly taking its cues from the "Thriller" music video; not a lot of substance, but plenty of style. The 80s may not have aged well, but Bo Welch's production design still looks great after 23 years.

I'm confused. So TV Shows have to be 2 hours, but shorts have to be 90 minutes to equal one entry? It's all kind of jumbled together in the rules so I want to make sure I'm counting them right so I get "credit."

Concerning TV shows:
Like the other challenges, you need four 30 minute shows for 1 entry and two hour-long shows for 1 entry. 30 minute shows typically run roughly 22 - 24 minutes without commercials and hour-long shows are roughly 43 - 45 minutes. If it's short films that are 10 minutes or less, once you hit around 23 minutes of watching them, you've reached one 30 minute show (¼ an entry). Any combination that gets you to 90 minutes can be used for 1 entry. And this is not an exact science, so if you're off by a little it's really no big deal.

When listing the TV shows try to keep them together in 1 entry.
Example: 30 min show/30 min show/30 min show/30 min show

For the sake of organization, it's advised that you keep a Temporary TV section at the bottom of your list until you get enough for an entry.

Why 90 minutes? Because we're keeping in tune with the other challenges.

I think when it comes down to it, any combination of anything that gets you to 90 minutes will count.

I suppose you could watch one 30 min show, and an hour show and count it. I think the 90 minutes came about from other challenge rules.

Even though there are feature films under an hour in length, they at least are stand-alone films. I think the TV rules are to allow for more variety, but since they are more easily/readily available to watch, they need more "rules" so to speak (or it wouldn't be much of a challenge).

I'm sure Chad will correct me if I'm wrong anywhere. But this is my understanding.

It was on Chiller the first time I saw it. But it's on the Dracula 75th Anniversary Edition.

Re: 100 Movies. 31 Days. The 6th Annual "October Horror Movie Challenge" (Oct 1-31) P

Edit: I guess this has been covered already, but here are my guidelines:

Keep in mind, for many items, we are talking about running times without commercials.

(4) 30-minute shows = 1 entry (approximately 23 minutes a show)
(2) 1-hour shows = 1 entry (approximately 45 minutes a show)

Don't get too hung up on exact running times, either, though. Some shows are on premium networks and may run 27-28 minutes (like Spawn on HBO.) I still would count (4) of those as one entry even if it was closer to two hours, just to make it consistent. I suppose if you had (3) exactly 30 minute shows, those could be 1 entry, but I would still just count (4) as an entry.

The 90 minute rule was more meant if you have shows or shorts that are not of typical running time. i.e. if you have (9) 10 minute shorts, that would be 1 entry.

Don't get confused by stand-alone movies, those always count as (1) even if they are not 90 minutes. A good example would be The Corpse Bride. It is 77 minutes, but it counts as one entry, as do the Masters of Horror titles.

Not to mention there are some feature films even shorter like She-Wolf of London or Maniac (both around 1 hour).

I just made it to # 50 last night, unfortunately my entry count is only at 45.75. Not sure if I am going to be able to hit the 100...

I'm not Chad, but I think TV shows have to total 120 minutes (including commercials) to count.

Films have advantages in counting over TV in two ways.

One, shorts added together only need to total 90 minutes instead of 120 minutes.

Two, "non-short" films count as one even if only 40 minutes ("academy-length").

This "bias" help preserve the film-centric nature of the Challenge for the purists who hate the TV inclusion.
