Blu-ray release announcements - Part II

Ive been thinking about this awhile as well, and my vote goes for the opposite - that is if its a USA film in hidef it should be listed here, regardless of where it is sourced from.
Lets stop thinking myopically to the US shoreline and think more about the actual title. Whats the difference of ordering "Sweeney Todd" from Amazon USA or UK? - nothing apart from a few days delivery time. (lets ignore that its not available in the USA at the moment)
However foreign films in different languages have a much larger difference than an American film ordered from a different store.
And then there is the Standard Def vs Hidef differences. I wade through the "International DVD Talk" trying to figure out whats hidef and whats not. Something isnt right here.
I propose we have either:
For titles released in the USA vs Internationally:
USA HD Talk
International HD Talk
USA DVD Talk
International DVD Talk
or alternatively, for USA films released anywhere vs international films released anywhere:
USA Films in HD
International Films in HD
USA Films on DVD
International Films on DVD
This could clarify things either way and make it more understandable to those readers who are themselves outside of the USA also. What do people think?

Hopefully I wrong, but that seems to be the way it works with these titles. (See multiple Dimension/Miramax titles)

LA Confidential is coming to Blu-ray. ![Banana Dance](/images/smiles/banana.gif)

Burbank, Calif., June 16, 2008 – Everything is suspect, everyone is for sale and nothing is what it seems. Word on the street is that on September 23, Warner Home Video will revisit 1950s Hollywood with New Regency’s intense film noir L.A. Confidential, to be digitally remastered and released as a Standard Definition Two-Disc Special Edition ($20.97 SRP) and single disc Blu-ray™ Hi-Def ($28.99 SRP).
Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Usual Suspects), Russell Crowe, (Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind), Guy Pearce (Memento, Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Kim Basinger (Batman, I Dreamed of Africa) and Danny DeVito (Batman Returns, Erin Brockovich) star in L.A. Confidential which was directed by Curtis Hanson and based on James Ellroy’s “L.A. Quartet” series of novels. Nominated for seven Academy Awards,® including Best Picture and Best Director, the film won two Oscars® (Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Ms. Basinger). The evocative and sordid tale of Hollywood back in the day, about three cops, a call girl, a mysterious millionaire and a tabloid journalist, is rife with mystery, ambition, romance and humor. Chicago Sun-Times’ Roger Ebert called the film “seductive and beautiful, cynical and twisted -- one of the best films of the year.”

Sounds like L.A. Confidential is not a digi-book, which is somewhat surprising (and I'm sure makes the digi-book haters happy).

I love how instead of releasing new titles Universal instead is just re-releasing all of its previous HD DVD stuff. I guess we will be losing out on the 100 Universal titles we would have gotten this year and maybe another 30-40 from Paramount (catalog, not day and dates).

LOL - I doubt very much we would have gotten 30-40 catalog from Paramount under any circumstances. That would be 3 a month or so. They're lucky if they get 3 a quarter out.
I'm happy with re-releases like the Mummy films getting "souped up" even if it means less over all releases in the short term. You also have to imagine Universal means to put DTS-HD MA on all these as they said it would become their standard. Maybe that takes some time too.
