Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition - December 2

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Casablanca: Ultimate Collector's Edition' to Blu-ray on December 2nd, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. No technical specs for this two-disc set have been announced at this time, so it is unknown if this title will get a boost over its previous HD DVD release.

The discs will come in a specially prepared box that features an intricate laser-cut Moroccan design. Inside the box will include collectibles such as reproductions of executive memos and props, a branded passport holder, luggage tag, photo book and mail-in offer for a movie poster.

Extras for this release include:

Now I'm glad I resisted the $10 HD DVD - I'll definitely be picking up the BD Casablanca.

Are you willing to pay $64.99 SRP? That's what's being reported in the Hi Def Digest forums.

Yes. In fact I usually leave an extra 20% for each purchase just to show the BDA I care.

I would expect this to be no more than $40 at Amazon, and I also wouldn't be surprised to see a single-disc release for the standard catalog list price a la Batman Begins and its two releases.

Either way, IMO it's important to show support for classic on a new format.

As always, I have to wonder if it were the other way around, would we be hearing about how the BD dropped the really cool packaging the HD DVD had?

Sure it's a superfluous marketing ploy, but if brings attention to the Blu-Ray release there's no harm IMO.

I believe the concurrent DVD release comes in the same box.

I don't know if I'll drop the cash for it, but I have to admit it looks pretty sweet:

Seeing that box, I can't imagine there wouldn't be a single-disc or non-box set version of the BD like with Batman Begins, but we'll see.

my guess is, if it doesn't get a single-disc release concurrently, it will get one a few months later.

Personally, Im glad they are releasing collector's editions with a Bluray option. This is one of my top 10 favorites and I watch it at least once a year. So, its a buy for me.

Pass. You guys can keep the crap that will do nothing but rot on my shelves. I'm so done with these fancy packagings that contain stuff I will never use or look at more then once.

Like with "A Christmas Story" which is released as an Ultimate Collectors Edition and a standard edition on the same day.

Personally I love Casablanca and hate non-standard packaging. Give me a standard edition anyday.

Yeah, but its not a film I enjoy that much to warrant any additional $40 for stuff I'll never look at. If its a film I love (Gremlins for instance) I'd splurge, but as-is Ive never looked at anything that Forbideen Planet tin came with or Blade Runner.

Yeah I'm just messing with you. I'm not going to pick it up unless I can get it in a standard case. I made the mistake of the getting the Batman Begins LE and that was a waste of money. Plus what little shelf space I have left for my Blu-rays will be better served for movies rather than big LE boxes.

I'm pretty happy with the current standard Blu-Ray of A Christmas Story - I think the the transfer looks great for a film of its vintage and style. I'd only double dip on this one for some compelling new extras.

What, you've never played with your one-inch Robby? Sorry, that came out wrong.
