I guess Disney forgot about their non-anamorphic release of Nightmare.

Maybe it's semantics between it previously being a Touchstone release and now under the Disney DVD label?

Probably to cash in on the much anticipated DVD/Blu-ray release of The Love Guru.
Love Guru comes out in September though...

But awesome news. Since its now Warner, hopefully they include TrueHD tracks for all (at least 1 and 2...Goldmember sucked).

Per dvdtimes.co.uk:

"Ridley Scott’s American Gangster, Martin Scorsese’s Casino and David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises will be priced at $29.98 SRP each or will be available as part of a three-pack Gangsters set priced at $89.98 SRP"

If this is true, that's a terrible price SRP for the 3 pack. Where's the savings over buying them individually? That's the same price for the Sarah Marshall 3 pack, and that incldued a new release SRP at $39.98. I was hoping the SRP for the 3 pack would be $59.98, which is in line with the action and halloween packs.

Damn. Kind of good that Sin City is postponed till '09. I've just added Wall-E, Casino and Austin Powers to the buy list.

According to Blu-news.com ....

The Incredible Hulk is coming October 21st, but more exciting is the Blu-ray exclusive features. The release will include BD-Live to enjoy while viewing the film, as well as My Chat! Watch the movie with your friends through online connectivity. The Blu-ray edition will not be so Blu though, it will be a collectibe 3D Packaging, in green!

Ugh. I still hate Fox.

MGM has announced specs -- or rather, the lack of them -- for the Blu-ray releases of 'Amityville Horror' and 'Carrie,' which will both hit high-def sans any supplemental features.

As previously reported, MGM has set an October 7 release date for the original '70s versions of 'Carrie' and 'The Amityville Horror,' marking the first-ever next-gen releases for the horror classics.

The studio has now unveiled the complete specs, and though both were previously released as DVD special editions to positive acclaim, MGM has decided to drop all bonus features and release the titles in bare-bones versions.

Tech specs for each will see a BD-25 single-layer presentation with 1080p/MPEG-2 video and English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 51. Surround (48kHz/16-bit) tracks. (Optional English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 51. Surround and subtitle tracks are also provided.)

Suggested retail prices for the Blu-rays have been set at $39.98 a pop.
I would have gladly paid the high price (well, $28 at Amazon) for these had they included the special features, but not, Fox can kiss my purchase goodbye.

I'm not surprised by Amityville Horror's lack of features as I thought that was a delayed title from last year. Maybe those discs were already pressed and packed like Commando and Predator. Carrie, however....I don't remember reading a delay on that. I'll take both for $30, but not a penny more.

Only if that applys to the slipcover. I'm not to crazy to have a puke green case though.

I'm hoping that's sarcasm. That's an embarassingly cartoony cover for one of this summer's best dramas. If Norton isn't already throwing a fit over the release (where's the promised longer cut?), he should be flipping about that cover...he's the MAIN reason the movie is so good.

I like it. The Hulk is my favorite comic book character. I'll like anything with him on it. Maybe the theatrical sheet is underneath. I'm more concerned about what's inside the case.

Amityville was announced at CES 2007 by Fox (MGM). Carrie has never been announced or rumored... [edit: Back at the 2007 CES show]

Kinda odd since Amityville only really has a Commentary, a Documentary, A trailer and TV spot on the SE DVD release....not that much to port over.
I'll wait for a BOGO on those two. If not, well, Fox lost two sales from me.

It definitely has. It's even been on Amazon to preorder -- complete with cover art -- since 7/28.

Wait, here's an article from 7/24 about it:

Well yeah, we know it was coming a few months ago, but we were talking about it being one of the Fox promised titles from CES 2007 (like Patton, Master and Commander, Man on Fire, Dude Wheres My car etc.) that were announced but took forever to come out (when Fox was MIA from Blu-ray).

Most of those were released bare-bones unlike some of Fox's newer catalog titles like Mrs. Doubtfire and ID4. The older announced titles from CES 2007 are pretty much bare-bone releases, regardless of how long it takes for them to eventually come out. Since Carrie is a newer announced catalog title its odd for it not to have some special features as its probably one that was not chillin' on the back burner for so long.

Any word on the pricing for Wall-E or Prince Caspian yet? I want to know if that digital copy is driving up the price or not. I just don't think it's a coincidence that The Nightmare Before Christmas is their first title with a DC and it's $40 list.

Yikes, I didn't notice the price for Nightmare...That's Fox MSRP right there. Damn.

I'll stick with my DVD of Carrie that has special features. Wall-E and the Hulk will be mine.

WALL-E and Hulk are definite, as is the first Austin Powers.

What's sad about the latter in a nostalgic realm is that it's the only DVD I've had since I first had a player, snapper and all. And it doesn't look like the infamous scenes from the European cut (one with Christian Slater) are on this new one, dammit...

With all of the new announcements including the Criterions, my bloodsugar levels went through the roof. Now I have just read at www.releaselists.com that the following are due internationally:

In Germany:
Fight Club - Dec 5
Dances With Wolves - Dec 10
Penelope (2006) - Nov 10
Awake (2007) - Dec 12
Anna Karenina (1997) - due Oct 16
Little Fish (2005) - due Oct 16.

In the UK:
Straw Dogs (1971)- Nov 24
Cabaret (1972) - Nov 24

This is going to be a very expensive year.

The Digital Bits says Eastern Promises has two more featurettes not on the SD-DVD: "Two Guys Walk Into a Bath House" and "Watts on Wheels". If it had a Cronenberg commentary I'd be sold.

Lame about Carrie. I'll get it on sale or something if the transfer gets high marks, but Young Frankenstein being all decked out gave me premature hope.

WOO CASINO!
