Here we go again. I was interested in purchasing this but now this gets downgraded to a rental with the poor specs that is becoming a disturbing trend for Warner.

No kidding...you'd think Warner wouldn't be announcing any more titles without lossless after all the current uproar over Speed Racer and various others....

Those ELF specs are the pits too...it's not like they have to produce any new extras! Just port over what is already there, even if just kept in standard definition.....the original DVD was a two disc Infinifilm release for pete's sake! Sure, it had an unnecessary full screen version that would obviously be dropped, but losing the majority of the previous extras will not help encourage any upgrading by many past purchasers....

Elf just makes me sad since that is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Once New Line got absorbed to Warner, we all knew that the great standards that New Line had for their releases would go down the drain.

What is puzzling to me is that Warner is usually pretty good about porting over the dvd features for the Blu-rays. I wonder what has changed now. The way things are going over there, it wouldn't be out of the realm to see Dark Knight come out with just Dolby 5.1. That would be a sad day indeed.

If there are really some extras dropped, what would really make that sad for fans of the film is that the disc with the oh-so-necessary digital copy could be used to hold some supplements rather than being a throwaway.

Naahhh... The New Line releases weren't perfect by any stretch (DNR on Pan's anyone?)... and maybe WB doesn't have access to all the NL extras or whatever.... granted so far the movies affected aren't ones that are near and dear to me, so I don't really care. But I think it's safe to say TDK will get the red carpet treatment on DVD/BD.

I don't know if I'll drop the cash for it, but I have to admit it looks pretty sweet:

Now if the BDs came in a normal-sized case inside that box, I would consider buying this... but I'm afraid I'll have to pass. 1st disc looks identical in content to the HD DVD, probably just a port, and I don't think I need what's on the 2nd disc.

I don't know which one people generally like better, but I hope it's the theatrical cut on Sin City. I don't like how it's split into pieces in the extended version.

Then again, including both would be the right way to do it if they're willing to make it a 2-disc set. (I'm not sure branching would work given the broken up nature of the extended version.) I hope they include the cooking school extra too. However, I have a feeling they may release a barebones edition now and save the SE to tie in with the sequel, whenever that gets made.

Huge news guys. According to Hdaddicts, who is a reliable retailer that posts on hidefdigest.com, Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn will be released on October 21st! October is truly going to be a massive month of great releases!

Welcome to 3 posts above yours.

I really hope they fix up the audio. Some of the background noise during dialogue is very annoying.

I will definitely take From Dusk Till Dawn and Sin City. I wonder if they'll have the alternate covers like they did for the dvd.

Looks like Sin City is not coming out on 10/21 after all, according to The Digital Bits:

While we're on the subject of Buena Vista, there have been a lot of reports around the Net that the studio is planning to release Sin City on Blu-ray Disc on 10/21. That's a big negatory, folks. We've checked with the studio and have officially learned that the title has been pushed back into 2009, along with Finding Nemo. Just so you know... you know?

Austin Powers Trilogy is due out December 2.

Probably to cash in on the much anticipated DVD/Blu-ray release of The Love Guru.
