Sure the movie is flawed, but it was a very different attempt from the Disney studio to do something against the grain - no songs and dance numbers, the talking animals were kept to a minimum and the overall tone exceedingly bleak and dark - but as a fan of the books, the film version was terribly lacking.
I'm surprised and annoyed that I somehow missed the theatrical release of this, I remember going up to a theatre in Connecticutt visiting a family friend and seeing the Tom Hanks comedy 'Volunteers' and the other two movies showing at the same theatre were 'The Black Cauldron' and 'Day of the Dead'

On another note, that 4 disc Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 sounds great. I couldn't care less about a DVD copy of 2000 (or the first either, I never watch the DVD versions anyway). I'm looking forward to it.

Fantasia has always worked better than Nyquill as a sleeping aid. I feel like I should give it another chance but I've never once (out of at least 5 tries) been able to stay awake during the entire thing. I am trying to keep up with all of Disney's Blu-ray releases but I don't know if I can gamble on Fantasia.

I love Fantasia, but I'm much more excited for that 70 minute documentary on Destino.

If the Pixar Blu-rays are any indication, I don't see why Disney can't fit all of the extras from the original Fantasia box set plus new material on one Blu-ray disc.

Awww, but then we wouldn't have any need for BD-Live.

I don't really have interest in downloadable or online extras; I want them on the disc. If the stuff from the Fantasia Anthology is not all included on this BD, I'll just keep my Anthology and buy the BD also. It certainly won't be the first time I've had to keep a Disney DVD when upgrading. Now if they were just going to drop one or two minor things, no biggie, I'd dump the Anthology. But I doubt that.
I'm guessing this will just be the roadshow version; I was hoping for the option to watch the shorter cut without the restored footage, to hear Deems Taylor's actual voice again rather then the redubbed one on the roadshow.
Despite these quibbles, it sounds from the description like what we will get in this set will be excellent. Fantasia is my favorite Disney film so this will be mine quickly upon release.

I just want Fantasia 2000, but doesn't sound like that's an option. That would make too much sense...

The 4 disc Fantasia set sounds like it will be a great one, but it begs the question, is it the original version or the censored one? Personally, I would love to see the original, but I am not sure what Disney will do.

Why on Earth would you want to see some dated 1930/40s caricatures of step-n-fetchit black Centaurs? It ruins the timelessness of the Pastoral sequence. Disney so did the right thing by cutting them out.

Warner got it right with the Looney Tunes (there is still hope for the Censored Eleven, fuck Ted Turner), slap a disclaimer on it and move on.

Artistically it completely degrades the work. It has nothing to do with being "PC".
Not for me, anyhow.
Besides it hasn't been part of the film for over 40 years now. Not exactly a 90s/00s PC development...

I am really excited for the set regardless. I haven't seen Fantasia in years and I want to see (and hear) what Disney does with the restoration.

Fantasia is my favorite film. It is absolutely brilliant in every regard. I know it'll never happen but I've always wanted to see it Uncut.

Fantasia is my favorite Disney film, no question. So ahead of its time, it's positively mindblowing. But those crappy black centaurs are the equivalent of a 1940s crappy dated Dreamworks gag.

I feel that any racial gag from that era is of that era and should be seen as such. What was acceptable then definitely isn't acceptable now but that doesn't mean it should be erased from cinema history. Even throw-away gags like little Sunflower.
But then, I'm one of those cinema nuts that believes all films should be released on home video untampered and as seen in theaters - Warts and all. I know that'll never happen in some cases (usually with the films I love) but I can wish. I'll still buy Fantasia on Blu-Ray and re-watch it over and over again as I did with the DVD, the Laser Disc and the VHS copies I've owned in the past.
