Black Cauldron in high-definition?
Still time to make it happen.

I think the ones not part of the lineup will still be released along with them... they just won't have the fancy label... but probably no more than 2 catalogs a yr I'd guess - giving us four animated films a yr. (not counting Pixar)

Four a year is a little more palatable. Although Sword In The Stone and Black Cauldron may be part of that I find it hard to believe that movies like Aladdin would be a low key release.

I am still hoping for The Lion King and Aladdin
These don't even need to be special editions but I would also love to see
Peter Pan, 101 Dalmations, Jungle Book, and the Aladdin sequels on blu-ray

I am holding out hope that Fantasia is the original uncut version...in my opinion it is the finest animated film ever made.

Nice cover art thanks for posting this. Hopefully we will be seeing a ten dollar off coupon for dumbo like we did with snow white.

So when is Fantasia coming? Feb./Mar. or was it flipped with Beauty and the Best and is now due around Fall of 2010?

Re: Disney Classic Animation BD Plans: 2009-2010 - Pinocchio, Snow White, Fantasia, B
i think its one of those things where there is a question mark, Because of the possible change in release date for the 3D release of Beauty and the Beast.
Ive read dates suggesting Beauty and the beast is now a Mar 2010 release and fantasia is october 2010. then ive read that Beauty and the beast is October 2010 and Fantasia is april/may 2010.
and of course the insert in snow white shows Beauty and the beast before Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 now not to mention beauty has a trailer on snow white and fantasia doesnt.
personally i love all three movies so the order doesnt matter much i am just glad they are releasing all three next year, i just wish we would start getting some additonal classic releases announced for after Dumbo.
I just thought about something the other day about another animated classic.
remember last year how disney issued that press release for Oliver and co saying for the first time in High def, and then it turned out to only be a dvd release? perhaps latter in 2010 we will see a oliver and co bluray release since it was apparently remasterd for HD (atleast that was my understanding that it was atleast remasterd in HD at that time though I could be mistaken)

Well, a lot of movies have been mastered in HD. Unless, of course, they actually authored a disc?
For non-Platinum (Diamond?) titles, I'd like to see The Black Cauldron, Alice in Wonderland, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Hopefully they'll see fit to release AIW as sort of a tie-in with the Tim Burton version (for Disney, no less) next year.

Why was Pinocchio released in 2009 if next year is its 70th anniversary? Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought this movie was released in 1940.

Hopefully the classic Alice in Wonderland will come out with Depp's new version next year.

I truly hope they did switch B&tB and Fantasia, I love B&tB way more. I want both of them, but I'd much prefer B&tB.

in terms of Beauty and the Beast - it's interesting that Disney is first releasing the 'Disney Digital' 3D version of the film in February (2010) and then the actual DVD/bluray edition later in the year.

it's weird to watch the film cropped considering it the last Disney animated film to be actually shot in 65mm - the new edition better look vastly improved than what was released on DVD before - that was mastered from a not so stellar source print. The 5.1 sound was great, but let's get the picture up to muster.

the theatrical release of the 3d beauty and the beast is a bit up in the air right now. originally it was going to be a late 2009 release then it was pushed to valentines weekend 2010 shortly after dick cook left disney there was talk that it would be pushed back to 2011 and released in theatres to cash in on the 20th anniversry of the film.
personally i am hopeing for this feburary just cause iam anxious to see the entire film in 3D, the scenes i saw at show west earlier this year were just amazing.

That second disc of Snow White is a pain to navigate (and my player doesn't care for the menus either)
