Im fine with Dumbo. I was scared as hell watching that pink elephant sequence as a kid and never watched it since. Would be a good time to pick it up and have a go at it again.

That's a real shame, since Fantasia could use the treatment far more than the recently re-released Dumbo.

That really sucks i was really looking forward to owning both Fantasia movies on Bluray next year(not to mention the two week limited re release at the el cap that would have proceeded it) , i hope this is just a simple matter of ultimatedisney not having the correct information. or perhaps (and this is a big guess here) they are holding this off to some how tie into the live action sorcerers apprentice movie.
dont get me wrong i enjoy dumbo, but The Fantasia movies give me more enjoyment.
let us know if you find out anything gizmo.

I am down for Dumbo.

Hopefully Disney will put some effort into restoring Fantasia correctly. But that might be wishful thinking.

Completely disappointed as Fantasia is my favorite Disney animated film.

I am curious about the decision behind it

Dumbo is a favorite amongst the Pixar creative team. I wouldn't be surprised if John Lasseter had something to do with the change..

Re: Disney Classic Animation BD Plans: 2009-2010 - Pinocchio, Snow White, Fantasia, B

Ok so here is something that may explain this or it could just be a coiencidence.
When i walked down to the El Cap today to buy tickets for the limited run of snow white begining on sept 18th and for the toystory 1&2 3D limited engagement playing in october, I asked the General Manager of El Cap when they would begin selling tickets for Beauty and the Beast 3D since its opening on Feb 12th(and el cap begins presales a few months in advance.

He said Beauty and the Beast has a question mark by it now, on there release schedule as there is a likelyhood of it being pushed back to a late fall 2010 re release. keep in mind the El Cap is Disney owned and Operated.

If this turns out to happen and Beauty 3D theatrical release gets pushed back late 2010 then perhaps the beauty and the beast diamond edition will get pushed back to 2011 and fantasia put into the late 2010 slot.

again this just pure speculation on my part based on a possible changed in the theatrical release plans for Beauty and the Beast 3D.

there is every possiblity and likelyhood my specualtion is totally out of the ball park same goes for my thoughts that perhaps they were going to try and tie in the fantasia release to the live action sorcerers apprentice film comming out.

well with dumbo we will now have the 1st, 2nd , 4th and 16th theatrically released titles on bluray .

i really wish we could start getting some non platinum titles on bluray

thehdroom.com
Disney Home Entertainment is currently planning to release the classic animated tale Dumbo on Blu-ray Disc and DVD sometime in February 2010. They've even whipped up a snazzy new contemporary logo to accompany the title.

The special edition release is expected to include some new bonus features that at this time are currently unknown outside of the Mouse House. Once Disney makes a formal announcement I'll be sure to share the details with all of you.

In the meantime, check out an advertising teaser for Dumbo below and mark your calender for the big guy's high definition debut.

Damn, I'll just have to wait longer for the ones I really want...

"Snow White" I have the original DVD from all those years ago but it still looks beautiful Up-Converted, while I've never really been a "Dumbo" fan...

Hmmm, February? What would really be nice is if they decided to do these every 4 months, with another title in June. Not that it would happen though.

Pete sake, they are never going to release anything I will buy.

Aladdin, Atlantis, Brother Bear, Fox and the Hound, Emperor's New Grove, Lady and the Tramp, Lilo and Stitch, Lion King, 101 Dalmatians, are some of the titles I want to purchase on Blu-Ray.

AWESOME! From blu-ray.com:

Beauty and the Beast and Fantasia Blu-rays in 2010

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have formally announced the Diamond Collection, which represents 14 of the most beloved and historic animated films the studio has ever made. Each title will be thoroughly restored for the highest level of picture and sound. Additionally, each Blu-ray will feature ground-breaking special features that promise to push the limits of Blu-ray.

Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment commented, "Because today's family rooms are more technologically-advanced and consumer expectations are higher than ever, we are excited to announce the launch of the Diamond Collection. We believe that the collection offers consumers the opportunity to enjoy these timeless classics like never before, and underlines Disney's commitment to continue to bring the best quality product and immersive experiences in to the home."

The first title to be released will be the October 6th Blu-ray release of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', after which two titles will be released each year from the collection. For 2010, 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Fantasia and Fantasia 2000' have been scheduled for Blu-ray release. The remainder of the titles - 'The Lion King', 'Bambi', 'Cinderella', 'Lady and the Tramp', 'The Little Mermaid', 'Peter Pan', 'The Jungle Book', and '101 Dalmatians' - will be released sometime in 2011-2015, completed by re-releases of 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Pinocchio' as part of the Diamond Collection.

Disney promises that each title will be remastered from the original negative (when available) for a pristine 1080p picture and stunning 7.1 soundtrack. As with all special Disney releases, these titles will only be available for a limited time.

Wasn't Fantasia canceled for next year and replaced with Dumbo?

If Aladdin doesn't get a Blu-ray release in the next year or two I will be pissed. Absolutely one of my all time favorites...

Re: Disney Classic Animation BD Plans: 2009-2010 - Pinocchio, Snow White, Fantasia, B

something i just thought about, i really hope the Beauty and the Beast Bluray keeps all 3 versions of The movie that were included on the Platinum edition,(The Work Print, Original Theatrical cut, and special edition) would love to see them include the 3D version as well since the bluray is comming after the theatrical run, but seeing as how Disney has not included 3D versions of any of the titles that have seen theatrical 3D releases so far except for the craptastic Hannah montana and jonus bros movies, i dont see them includeing the 3D version though.

seriously though they dont include for us the 3D Versions of Chicken little, Meet The Robinsons,Nightmare before Xmas,Bolt,or UP. But we get hannah montana in 3D and the jonus bros in 3D.

Those titles need the 3D to sell more copies.

Well, Chicken Little, Robinsons, and maybe Nightmare were released before the 3D trend (in video, that is). It seems like it didn't really take off until later last year with Journey to the Center of the Earth and some others. It's also possible that John Lasseter doesn't want Disney/Pixar's animated movies being released in crappy analglyph 3D, and he'd prefer to wait until the real 3D format is ready.

Oh well. Does Toy Story follow their silly release schedule or is it different because its owned by Pixar?

I know some of you guys are thrilled by this announcement...but I've never liked any of the older Disney animated films so I'll be passing on most of these, especially Fantasia since it shared the crap out of me as a child.

This controlled dosage that Disney insists on is really aggravating. Alladin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid are all titles I would pick up day 1. And as most of you know I'm pretty particular in my day 1 purchases these days. By the time these titles are being rolled out the format will be 10 years old which means the next format will be on the horizon.
