Re: Disney Classic Animation BD Plans: 2009-2010 - Pinocchio, Snow White, Fantasia, B

Confusion has set in...

Is Beauty & the Best coming out in the fall or spring of 2010? The insert inside of Snow White said Fall 2010, but I had read somewhere on DVDTalk that there was rumors going around that they had flopped the release of Fantasia and that B&B was coming out in March instead. Now I'm reading on Wikipedia (not very reliable I know) that B&B is coming out in the spring of 2010

Anyone have any more info?

I think B&TB is still on track for October 2010.

March is very loaded with March 23rd BD releases of Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Dumbo -- so it would seem unlikely to wedge B&TB in there as well.

Like last year, Disney will likely leverage a classic title at the start of the 4th Quarter (B&TB) and then a new release mid-4th Quarter (Toy Story 3).

Trailers for the Fantasia set and James and The Giant Peach have shown up on Disney's BD-Live portal, so those still look like they are on track for this year as well. Not to mention The Princess and The Frog at some point too.

Wikipedia's source was the list on UltimateDisney, in which the status has since been changed to TBA 2010.

I thought it was very unlikely they'd release BATB on BD so soon after the 3D theatrical release in what was to be February of this year, but since they've postponed that to 2011, maybe the BD isn't coming this year at all?

I was thinking that too, I hope they don't postpone it till 2011 I will be very upset if they do that since B&TB is my favorite Disney animated movie. If I remember correctly there was a trailer for B&TB on the Snow White BD. I thought I saw that on some Disney BD anyway.

yeah and the b&tb trailer was beautiful in HD. I remember watching it but that trailer made it seem more moving than I remember. Deffinatly be picking up both Fantasia's and b&tb, as well as princess and the frog. I just got into disney bds I've got Snow White and Sleeping beauty and they look gorgeous in HD. First time I saw those classics and I've never seen the fantasia's either. So I'll be sure to keep an eye out for future disney animated BDs from now on.

I'd be in for James and the Giant Peach. It would be nice to get Who Framed Roger Rabbit? this year as well.

James and the Giant Peach? Sweet. I never purchased the DVD because it's non-anamorphic.

Sorry if it's been brought up before....but what's with all the Disney Steelbooks that seem to be coming out of the blue? I was at BB yesterday and saw Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty in Steelbooks. WTF. I would have held off if I knew this was the case.

There were a few more too: Wall-E, Monsters Inc., A Bug's Life & The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Don't know why. At first I was upset about Nightmare Before Christmas, but then I saw it and really didn't like the look of it. The Monsters Inc. one seems overly too big.

Sort of. Canada's had them a little bit longer. Wonder if Disney saw the idea and tired to grab a few extra bucks?

I thought 'Beauty & the Beast' was getting a 3D release to the theaters?

I think but don't quote me but I recall seeing 'James and the Giant Peach' in Hidef on Starz. the movie has a really strong dynamic 5.1 soundmix, I'd love to hear this in lossless DTS sound.

It appears it's being held for next yr. I would guess that the Blu will arrive next yr as well... so maybe Fantasia will be the fall release?

I really hope this doesn't happen, but it would make no sense to release B&tB to theaters AFTER the Blu-Ray release. Agh! This is annoying!

not really cause the first wide scale 3D reissue of Nightmare before christmas came out shortly after the bluray release if i remember correctly.(the first two years 2006 and 2007 the theatrical reissue of nightmare was only on about 156 screens and 456 screens respectively) and remember it was only after dick cook was terminated that the release date for beauty switched from feb to next year. it was a valentines day release even with the bluray release rumored to be in the spring.

Nightmare Before Christmas was released in 3D a few years before the BD came out, this was during the time that the DVD was OOP.

please RE READ my post i said the first WIDE SCALE rerelease of Nightmare before christmas in 3D the first year disney played reissued nightmare in RealD was 2006 and it was a very limited 150 screen release, the second year was on about 400 screens. in 2008 nightmare was released on bluray and reissued on dvd about a month before playing a wider 650 or so screen re release. 2009 though i believe it only played on a handfull of screens like at disneys el capitan thatre
