I saw the teaser today while seeing Cloverfield. I think it's a good teaser for a movie that's barely 2 months into production and over 11 months away from being released.
I did like hearing Leonard Nimoy's voice saying, "Space, the final frontier."
Until I see an actual trailer, I can't get too excited yet.

Trekmovie.com has an interesting story about James Cawley, EP of the fan-made New Voyages
Basically, this guy was a really vocal critic of the movie, until he bumped into JJ Abrams and has since become an unofficial aid to Abrams in terms of authenticity of Trek stuff. The guy describes himself as a Trek "purist" and while he doesn't agree completely with Abrams vision (ie: the bridge not an exact replica of the old Enterprise bridge and such), he's now a big fan of the movie because it has the "right philosophy" of Star Trek.
It's a pretty interesting 12 minute video clip to hear a little bit about the behind the scenes stuff, and it gives me a lot of faith that Abrams is pushing the franchise in the right direction.

This trailer totally sucked!
First of all, why does anyone in the Star Trek world have to do any welding anymore? seriously, what with phasers and whatnot, you would think that it would be a lot easier. Oh, and you wouldn't need a huge construction crew like that with a matter transporter just lying around waiting to be used. Oh, I know what you're thinking - if they could use a phaser to weld the ship together, then a phaser could be used to destroy it. Well then, why not use a gigantic welding rod like that guy had on the Klingon ships?
And we all know that the Enterprise was built in space, not in an actual atmosphere that would allow a welding gun to be used. Can't these people get anything right?
The Nacelles are totally wrong. They have a small fan spinning inside, when in reality they were supposed to be reserves for plasma. Wrong wrong wrong.
Still, can't wait to see it opening day.

I think we can all agree that any production where Berman and Braga are not involved (which according to imdb, neither of them are) is a step in the positive direction.

"You know, before I answer any more questions there's something I wanted to say. Having received all your letters over the years, and I've spoken to many of you, and some of you have traveled... y'know... hundreds of miles to be here, I'd just like to say... GET A LIFE, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show! I mean, look at you, look at the way you're dressed! You've turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME!
I mean, how old are you people? What have you done with yourselves? You, you must be almost 30... have you ever kissed a girl? I didn't think so! There's a whole world out there! When I was your age, I didn't watch television! I LIVED! So... move out of your parent's basements! And get your own apartments and GROW THE HELL UP! I mean, it's just a TV show dammit, IT'S JUST A TV SHOW!"

I hope the comments about the fans in the nacelles was truly just a joke. Seriously.
Look, I'm a B5 fan. I'm all for realistic physics in real space. That seems like a good minimum. But even JMS made allowances (like sound in space) for the TV medium. And elevators moved "at the speed of plot"![Wink](/images/smilies/wink.gif)
But come on. The design of technology being consistent with previous/other Star Trek? Who cares. It's made-up fantasy technology!
Anyway,
I stopped liking ST after TNG and DS9 (which I just finished watching last year). I hated Voyager. I've been watching Enterprise on HDnet, and it's *OK*. I like that this looks fresh.
IMO ST needs a reboot, badly. This is shaping up pretty well so far IMO, although it still seems a little weird.

You can play around with the dials below the cameras and try to get a better picture.

Not yet, anyway. I'm thinking there will be more later and I'm sure there's something up with one of the cameras always being down. If you refresh the page there is always a different camera down.

Really Bad News Fellow Trekkies. Star Trek has been postponed until Summer 2009!!!

'Star Trek' pushed back to 2009
Paramount shuffles major releases
By PAMELA MCCLINTOCKParamount is pushing back the release of "Star Trek" from Dec. 15 to May 8, 2009.
Move was part of a major reshuffling to the studio's release calendar, as well as DreamWorks' release calendar.
Studio insiders said "Star Trek" has the potential to gross more in May than in December.
All the majors are likely to revisit their 2008 and 2009 release skeds in the wake of the writer's strike now being over. There's an abundance of films slated for release this year, and particularly comedies. It's likely that Par won't be the only studio pushing back films to 2009.
"Star Trek" has no competition in its new slot--at least not so far. One week earlier, 20th Century Fox bows "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
Paramount also announced that Martin Scorsese's Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer "Shutter Island" will be released Oct. 2, 2008.

If the production schedule doesn't change at all, this is bad news, but if it allows them one extra second of time to spend making a Trek film that doesn't suck, it will be worth the wait.

I find it really odd that Paramount is cramming three tentpole pics into one summer - GI Joe, Transformers 2, and now Trek. My bets are on T2 being pushed to 2010...
