Wow, getting a little intimate with the captain now are we.

I really heard Siberious. I even listened to it a couple times with headphones on and it really sounds like he says siberious cause I hear the Jamess..Siberious as two distinct names. I'm sure it's just me and probably just him slurring it together but it really sounds like two names with a clear pause. I guess he could be going Jamess..Stiberius. Either way I'm sure they didn't change it. That would be really stupid.

I think one of the reasons why I didn't really get into TOS as much is because since I watched them all in a row on DVD they really repeat a lot of the same formula for several shows. A god like diety shows up, kills a red shirt, kirk somehow shows it the error of its ways or spock finds the power source, or it ends up being a robot programed millenia ago. Don't get me wrong a lot the the stories were really good scifi and even science fiction, but the formula was used a little too much.

Yeah, when I saw the version of the trailer that has been filmed from the screen that was put up on YouTube, I thought he was saying "Siberious". However, having seen the HD trailer, I clearly hear "Tiberious".

I can honestly say, as much as I'm a fan of TOS, I'm completely psyched for this movie! I can't wait! The geek in me needs to be set free!!!

They played the trailer (in HD) during Terminator last night.

Much cooler to see the trailer on the 50" HDTV rather than my monitor.

The best delivery of his full name was also the first time we heard it - Christopher Plummer in Undiscovered Country.

I'm a long-time fan and I liked the trailer.

I'm excited enough about a new Trek project that actually looks good that I don't mind the little nit-picky details. The fact that Chekov or Bones weren't actually on the Enterprise at first when Kirk took command, or the actual time he took command (instead of going to the Farragut or wherever) aren't that important to me. I see that they're trying to put the main cast of the old movies together and I appreciate that.

I'm looking forward to this movie.

So, is this officially a reboot then? I hadn't heard that. The problem I have with a reboot to Star Trek is the fact that it has been around for so long, how can you ignore everything else?

It's not a true reboot; it's kind of it's own thing.

Spoiler:
Spock travels back and thus starts a new continuity parallel to the existing one (I guess like a mirror universe).
I saw around 20-30 minutes of nearly finished footage yesterday and the film is looking really good. Simon Pegg has his accent down pat, and I even liked Pine (who I originally wasn't sure about). I'm still on the fence with Quinto, though (which is even more striking when Nimoy shows up and you're reminded how awesome he is). There's also at least one Cloverfield reference.

I didn't know that. Is what you mention about Spock common knowledge? If not....should it be in spoiler tags? I mean I knew Spock/Nimoy was in the film but I didn't know how he would be used.

I've considered that common knowledge for anyone who's been following the film, but I spoilered it just in case. Sorry.

James Bond is older than Star Trek, and it did it.

And this ISN'T a total reboot - if it were there wouldn't be a Leonard Nimoy as Spock angle to the story.

It's absolutely common knowledge that Leonard Nimoy is in the film as Spock, and that he shows up.

Um...bond is totally different. Don't tell me you think Casino Royale is a complete reboot. Bond has gone through so many reboots and so many people have played bond.

How many people have played these characters?

Totally different situation.

Trailer looks good.. I don't like the Enterprise being built on land instead of in a space-dock but other than that it looks good. Not sure how much Trek will be in this movie. The preview looked a little top-gunnish to me. I wonder if Kirk is going to buzz the tower a few times?

But we really don't know anything more than that at this point. We don't even know if those shots are from the same final cut sequence. They could be 15 minutes apart in the film, just cut together for dramatic trailer effect.
Something I noticed on the trailer that I haven't really seen mentioned aywhere else is the fact that when you look on the horizon at the opening wide shots of him driving you can already see the shipyards far off in the haze.

J.J. said he didnt know a damn thing about Trek before making this movie. Judging from the trailer... id say this was very true. They made it look like any typical brainless action movie.

Wikipedia says...

Development of the film began in 2005 when Paramount Pictures contacted Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman for ideas to revive the franchise. The creative team contrasted Orci and Lindelof, who consider themselves "Trekkies", with casual fans like Abrams, who all aimed to create a film that would interest a general audience. They wanted to be faithful to Star Trek canon, but also introduced elements of their favorite novels, modified continuity with the time travel storyline, and modernized the production design of the original show.
