Now you are just being silly.

Although his brother could be one of the unnamed cast members in a different colored uniform. Or maybe Sam Rockwell could do it again.

Intresting article about Abrams and the film. The only thing that concerns me a bit is that Abrams says that he owns all the Star Trek DVDs, but has not seen every episode. With that aside, he still feels like he has seen enough to make the film. I sure hope he's right.

I seem to recall a story about Nicholas Meyer not being steeped in Trek lore either when he started watching the classic episodes and came across Space Seed and wondered what a sequel to that might be like.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but then I also like that series reboot proposal by J. Michael Strazynski that came out recently.

I thought Abrams handled the Mission Impossible series really well and I think he'll do the same for this one. This is a franchise that needs a pump of adrenaline and I think Abrams will deliver. Paramount has confidence since they gave him a 5 year contract.

I have zero hopes for the film and will desperately avoid caring for as long as I can, but that image gives me chills.

Actually, if I recall the documentary on Wrath of Khan correctly, it was the Harve Bennett, the producer, who got handed the reigns of the Star Trek franchise after TMP didn't go the way Paramount wanted. However, Bennett knew little of Star Trek aside from some cultural references, so he started watching some of the original episodes. When he came across Space Seed, he knew he needed to make a movie based around Khan's return.

Meanwhile, Bennett knew Nicholas Meyer socially. Meyer wanted to make a naval film, but everyone had turned him down. Bennett went to Meyer and said, "Want to make a Star Trek film?" And Meyer said, "I don't even watch Star Trek, why would I want to make a film?" Bennett explained his return of Khan idea, and Meyer admitted he was interested. When Meyer directed Star Trek II, he essentially knew nothing of the series outside of Space Seed, he was more interested in things like giving the crew their new suits with rank insignia, etc. Basically, Meyer saw ST 2 as a naval movie in space.

As for the poster, if they really do a young Kirk/Spock, I won't see it.

This movie is going to hinge on who directs it and most importantly who is cast. It's paramount (no pun intended).

Either way, that teaser poster gives me chills as well.

Anything to get Trek away from the past decade...

this is a good opportunity to revive the franchise and make it more hip and appealing to the youths of today, like the halloween series did. that's why i propose busta rhymes as spock.

"yo, live long and prosper bitch!" *throws up vulcan affiliation sign*

one of the best things about those films was that they were technical to the point of being Sci-Fi and not Star Wars, but they didn't go overboard like changing the laws of physics and rebuilding every system in the enterprise like in the NG series and films

Regardless, I think the way Meyer approached it is what makes it so good. The Trek characters are story archetypes anyways, so you just make a good story, then plug in the characters. As long as they don't go against tradition, it'll work. It seems the last couple of movies and the last two series were approached as "let's make a new Star Trek series/movie" first, and then they started looking for stories. The best approach is to see what kind of story you can tell, then see how you can make a Trek story around that.

I'm not dismissing a young Kirk and Spock movie out of hand. I'll give this new guy a chance, but only because he's bringing something new to the table.

Not interested, not a fan of classic trek, or most prequels for that matter. Why can't they just do something post DS9? Is it really that hard? I didn't catch the last couple of seasons of Voyager, did the whole universe blow up or something? What's the deal?

That said, I might rent it if I'm bored. Though if Abrams starts off with that whole "show you part of the ending, then go back to the beginning and work your way forwards" style again...seriously drives me nuts. MI3 felt like a freakin' Alias episode (though GOOD alias!), and that style got old on Alias quite fast...

Not an awful lot happened in the last few seasons of Voyager, other than
Spoiler:
them getting home and turning the Borg into the wimpiest race in the universe, specifically by showing them nearly every week and making them easy to defeat
.

There was very little mention about what happened in the Alpha Quadrant after DS9 in either Voyager (which is understandable given their situation) nor the Movies. The only real change to Star Trek continuity was with the Romulans in Nemesis. Insurrection really provided nothing to the Star Trek storyline.

Ah, fair enough. Well, for all those who are saying it gives you chills , rest assured, it does for me, too, but of an entirely different kind .
