Wikipedia:
I hate to be a naysayer but the text on the back of the toy was mentioned to explain that Weapon XI is indeed Deadpool after Stryker embeds him with Logan's DNA. Apparently he also added Scott's DNA to the mix as well (sort of makes Deathstryke in X2 a major downgrade).

So we get the mouthy Deadpool that's incapable of shutting up, then he gets disfigured (YAY!) but ends up without a mouth (BOO!) and ends up an optic blast firing Baraka look alike sans teeth (WTF?!).

I just hope during the reshoots and pickups they made sure that Logan does not kill him and he gets his mouth back but stays all nasty looking and dons his costume at the end.

By the way, I can't recall, did Deadpool ever have mutant powers before they added Logan's DNA to him?

Anytime anyone mentions "2 hours" or "rated R" to chris_sc77 is because those are the only films he watches.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Yeah, I'm well aware of that long running gag. Still, the final fight between Creed and Logan could benefit from an R rated (or very close to it) approach given the sheer level of hatred and savagery between the two. This just happens to be one case where R might be better.

As for the runtime, 2 hours seems right in this case given the scope of the story. It could even be 20 minutes longer just to give it room to breathe. However, not every movie benefits from 2 hours. Imagine how much Taken would have sucked if it had been padded to 2 hours rather than the lean 90 minutes of asskickery it is.

a wolverine movie does need to be R
X2 was a tad lame in that he's slicing and dicing people and there's no blood

that trailer was sweet

was that kid with the glasses cyclops?

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Yeah, that's Cyclops. I guess they'll do a variation of his head injury to explain why doesn't remember Wolverine during the events of X-Men. Given how much he disliked him in X-Men, X2, and X-Men: The Last Stand, you figured Cyclops would rub it in Wolverine's face that he knows who he was (at least during his Weapon X days).

Dunno if this sways anyone's fears, but I saw new Wolverine movie toys at Walgreen's this weekend, including one of Deadpool in his classic red outfit. Now, we all know movie toy lines based on other source material tend to include characters who don't actually appear in the film, but maybe this is a good sign.

Marvel wants to sell Wolverine on kids underwear and cartoons, no way they would let the movie be R.

On top of that, I can't recall any mature readers Wolverine comics. Maybe Havok/Wolverine Meltdown was, I can't recall, but Marvel has always used creative shadows and cutaways to keep Wolverine firmly PG-13 friendly.

Wife has determined that she must see Wolverine for our 28th anniversary in May.

Besides Logan, Gambit was always my son's favorite growing up.

I don't know about you guys, but we're probably going to see movies in the theater from May-August than we have in many years....

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Massive Deadpool spoiler for those who really want to know (possible repost but his character is still being discussed/theorized):

link to info w/ pics and a possible final scene character spoiler

Spoiler:
Ryan Reynolds shows up for 10 minutes in the beginning of the film. He's part of Stryker's team, and his mutant ability is mostly being a badass with swords, cutting bullets and the like. He is called Wade Wilson during this period.
• Stryker's big plan (or one of 'em) is to make Weapon XI, a mutant with a shit-ton of mutant powers.
• Stryker uses Wilson's body as the mutant power receptacle, and because of the scarring (I'm not sure whether that's from a previous fight, or as a result of all the mutant powers getting packed into him), Weapon XI is played by Scott Adkins. Weapon XI appears for about ten minutes near the film's end, and has the claws seen above (a la Wolverine), Cyclops' optic blast, Wraith's teleportation ability, and Wolverine's healing factor, too. Also, his mouth is indeed sewn shut.
• Just like Weapon X is given the name "Wolverine," Weapon XI is given the name "Deadpool."

that would make a bunch of sense, because in the trailer i could've sworn i saw a guy that looked like Ryan Reynolds shooting the cyclops blast out of his eyes. now i know why.

I'll never understand why the movie writers feel the need to screw with characters like that.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Wow. That is terrible.
Spoiler:
During the reshoots they should have made Weapon XI and Deadpool two very different characters.

So I guess since Deadpool in the comics had mentioned that Ryan Reynolds should have protrayed him in a movie, he will now bitch and moan about how they totally screwed up the character in this movie.

Spoiler:
The mutant shooting the optic blasts is Weapon XI and not Deadpool; he only gets named Weapon XI at the end of the movie, indicating Weapon XI dude died and Deadpool gets the vacated codename. It was pretty clear they weren't the same earlier in the thread from that MTV? link but the recent spoiler confirms they are different.

Dumb Person #2 "Well, in the X-Men comics, there is this Character named Mimic, who has multiple powers from various members of the X-Men, like Cyclops Optic Blasts, Wolverines Healing Factor and Claws, etc etc"

Dumb Person #1 "I like it. But who is this Mimic character you are talking about? I never heard of Mimic. Not that I have ever read a single comic book in my life. Will the general public know who this Mimic character is?"

Dumb Person #2 "Probably not sir. He has been irrellevant for the last 30+ years."

Dumb person #1 "I got it. Lets use this Mimic person, and instead of calling him Mimic, we will call him Deadpool"

Dumb Person #2 "Excellent idea sir. Deadpool is a character that many fans have been clammoring for years to see in the X-Men related movies. We'll call him Deadpool. That should make all the X-Men and comic fans happy.
They are finally going to get what they wanted."

Dumb person #1 "Yes, I agree. We are giving the fans exactly what they have been asking for.
What could they possible complain about now?"

And that is how we got our Deadpool catastrophy.

What do you think? Am i dead on?

Re-read that spoiler. You got it backwards. It clearly mentions that Wade Wilson is used to create Weapon XI by having the powers of several mutants put into him. Then Weapon XI gets the codename Deadpool. So Weapon XI is Deadpool.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

Trailer looks good. I just hope they spend plenty of quiet time telling a story and it doesn't get to icky and bloated. The two X-Men movies did all of that stuff really well. Just seeing Wolverine cutting apart shit with his claws isn't enough.

When I first heard about this a 2-3 years ago, I didn't think it'd get off the ground.

Re: Wolverine - Solo

I can understand maybe not having a few trademarks like the suit looking different or something, but completely changing a character around like this is retarded. It's like in X3 where they called those mutants Calisto or Psylocke. If you're not going to be true to the character, why the fuck call it the same name!

Re: Wolverine - Solo

So is there any scene in the movie in which Deadpool is wearing his mask?

I don't expect much when the trailer has at least 4 scenes of Wolverine walking away from some mega-explosion in the background. Action movies still do that? I thought that was an 80s/90s thing. It's very parody seeing that now.

Is anyone else disturbed by Wolverine's claws? They look like a mixture of cardboard painted gray and CGI.

Well at least they got Gambit right.

I've been getting pretty excited for this one - but this Deadpool/Weapon XI stuff has me worried... Deadpool is one of the coolest characters and if they fuck him up, I'm going to be mad as hell.

I agree that this image is getting pretty old, but it was also used in Iron Man. I'm not sure it ever died.

I think it only occurred once in Iron Man. And that scene still came of as pretty cool... I think having it happen 3 or more times in one film would be pushing it, but who knows.

Are you guys suggesting he should walk towards a mega-explosion? Because that just seems silly.
