Who gives a shit when it comes out? I was a huge GI Joe fan growing up, but the first movie was a piece of shit & this one looks awful (although not as bad as the first). So it got delayed a little while...there's plenty of awesome looking flicks coming out this summer. All of the people screaming "fuck you Hasbro" make me laugh. If Tarantino's next movie was delayed, I'd be disappointed...but not to the tune where I'd cry my eyes out on these boards. It's just a movie...it'll come out soon enough.
That being said, this movie is going to lose boatloads of money from having 2 advertising campaigns. This will probably be the last time something like this ever happens. The explanation that Paramount gave is obviously bullshit.

The irony is that people were actually looking forward to this sequel, because it actually looked good. I remember when the first was getting ready to come out, I even said I wouldn't watch it, but decided to at the last minute. I'm glad I did, because it was a lot of fun. This one had much better buzz than the first one.

I found the toys over the weekend. Picked up a few Rock items. The figures have no bio cards, but have two little write ups about Roadblock. It says hes an Ultimate Ninja Commando. When did that happen?
I hope one good thing comes from the push back. They repackage the toys and have better looking packaging. Its ugly and the main picture of The Rock they are using on all merchandise looks like his digital retarded brother.

Marlon Wayans flying around screaming whatever it was in Scottish or whatever dialect that was is really one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in a movie.
I'm more disappointed because I was looking forward to this one a hell of a lot more than the first one. This actually looked decent.

Supposed "real" reason for the delay:
http://www.deadline.com/2012/05/big-...-2s-big-delay/
There is a possible movie spoiler in the article ... or maybe not because if the article is true it will all be changed.

One thing I find striking about that article is that the decision to increase Channing Tatum's screentime isn't merely because he's now hit it big with The Vow and 21 Jump Street. It's that his scenes with the Rock are the only parts of the movie that tested well across the board. I find that likely since, in the trailers, Tatum and the Rock show a lot of chemistry together. Contrast that to the bits with the Rock and Willis (or Willis with anyone else he interacts with in the trailers), there's zero chemistry there. Hell, Willis doesn't even come across like he even wants to be in the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if they choose to reshoot all of his scenes as well.
As for how to bring back Tatum without reworking the entire movie, that's a rather easy fix. First, recall that Chu had the entire script reworked to shoehorn Roadblock and Joe Colton (in an interview I read, Chu seems to believe Colton is a characher made up for the sequel
![LOL](/images/smilies/lol.gif)
As for the actual reshoots, carefully edit the scene were Duke was meant to die, have him separated from the Roadblock, Flint, and Lady Jaye. Have Duke escape and meet up with Team Alpha (the cast from the first film) who have survived a Cobra assault in a different location. You keep all the other scenes that have already been shot (Storm Shadow's ninja subplot and Roadblock's team working with Joe Colton). Then you rework the finale so that Duke's Team Alpha meets up with Roadblock's team and Snake Eyes. Conclude it with Duke and Rex squaring off while you keep the fight of Firefly versus Roadblock. New ending of the two teams victorious and the original cast very much alive.
So it'd be mostly pickups rather than outright reshoots. Not cheap either way but at least pickups wouldn't require scrapping all that's already been shot.

This looked better from a production design standpoint (just look at the improved CC and SE costumes) so I was surprised/disappointed to see it got pushed back 9 months.

Well that "spoiler" is one of the worst kept secrets about this movie. Though, given Di Bonaventura's claims to the contrary, it seem the idea to have it changed was in the planning stages for quite some time.

), and kill off the entire cast from ROC. So there's a whole wealth of script material already written from which they can draw from. There's already talks of bringing back JGL so he's likely to have screentime opposite Tatum. There's also talks of courting back the previous cast (for which scenes were already written). So there's not too much of a screenwriting expense.

Yeah, I remember when pics were leaked of the Jason X/fishbowl mask for CC, I wasn't sure if I'd want to see the movie. That hideous thing aside, it turned out to be a very fun movie. I know the accelerator suits freaked people out when they saw them in the trailer (they didn't offend me but I did wonder why they decided to give the Joes suits reminicent of The Centurions) and most agreed that turned out to be one of the most fun parts of the movie.

They should just lift the audio from that line at the end of the animated Joe film and insert it at the end of this one:
"Doc just called. Duke's gonna be okay!"

I approve of this change only if they have Duke flying through a gong screaming out, "Fuck you Miles Davis!" before cutting to the end credits.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
Ok, this is odd. According to Tatum, the studio has not asked him yet to shoot any additional scenes. Maybe they'll just just do a re-edit using footage they already have? Or maybe the Tatum stuff is just BS and they are really doing a 3-D upgrade like they said?
Anyone know of a write-up of the test screening that bombed?
"I don't know. Truly," Tatum said when asked if the rumors we'd see more of him in the revamped sequel are true. "I haven't seen the movie. I did my part and then all this stuff is going on, so they haven't come to talk to me about anything. They talk about a lot of stuff; who knows if it's the industry or the actual studio? You never know."

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
Some interesting info posted at Hitfix
http://www.hitfix.com/motion-capture...for-the-studio
Explains why Chu has been completely silent on the issue since the date change was announced. If it was really all about 3D, I would have expected him to be the forerunner on the info, and be alive on twitter/facebook talking about how it's a good thing. He's been active througout production on social media talking about the steps making the movie, and all of a sudden - complete silence.
This article puts some sense to that.
We've been hearing reports of rough test screenings for the film, but things are starting to get genuinely contentious between director Jon Chu and the studio, and right now, there is a chance he won't be directly involved at all with the reshoots. There's also a chance Chu might try to legally force his way back onto the film, which could create even more strain in the relationship he has with Paramount. Word is that producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is firmly on Chu's side, which could help, but I shouldn't be shocked if we get word soon that Stuart Baird or someone similar is being brought on to "consult."

Well, Chu wasted no time in speaking out against that story.

It's both. But it was the test screening that forced the reshoot:

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming
I know Justin from Generalsjoes well, and spoke with him right after he talked with Chu. If it was a written press release, Justin wasn't in on it and Chu was well prepared. Justin specifically avoided the Tatum question, as he didn't want to ruffle feathers. He was just happy Chu reached out to him. Keep in mind, this happened within an hour of the other story I posted going live on his site. Chu follows him on twitter and no doubt saw the post there.
