Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

Grab the toys while you can

G.I. Joe is an ongoing consumer franchise and therefore there is merchandise available to consumers. There is a limited amount of G.I. Joe Retaliation product at retail now, but in light of the movie moving out to March 29, 2013, the majority of the movie line will be made available early next year in time for the film’s release.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

It's a stupid decision to move it to March 2013. But I like the weekend they picked: the same weekend The Host is coming out.

Nicely counter-programmed.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

It's all in the marketing and after carefully analyzing it I've come to the conclusion that: early test screenings pissed off the women and girls, with Channing Tatum as Duke getting killed off within the first five minutes. Women (dirty old women) love this guy and they were vocal about it. I don't doubt that they will re-shoot or add scenes, and maybe even keep Duke alive for the March 2013 premiere. I get the feeling that Tatum's role will be more than just a supporting character. He's like Jessica Chastain this year, with like 10 flicks coming out and we're not even halfway through 2012.

3-D, and WWE is all secondary stuff, which they have plenty of time to do.

Let's also not forget that Tatum is doing well with 21 Jump Street and The Vow. Also, they likely expect Magic Mike to also do well. Makes sense to beef up his role and ensure he's in the sequel (the latter was always the plan, according to Di Bonaventura). So it makes sense to do all this.

I don't buy that explanation unless the studio thinks this will pull in more women than the new film by the author of Twilight, which opens on the same day.

I don't think so. My wife tried it because she loves Twilight and she couldn't get thru it.

We actually have some new GI joe toys in our Kmart, I think its supposed to go out 28th or 29th next week. I don't know if the movie being pushed back, if the toys can be sold or will it be recalled.

I'm actually going to take a controversial stance here and say while Tatum was far from a charismatic hero in the first film, on his own he was more than adequate. It was every scene with that overacting idiot Marlon Wayans that made him look bad by association.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

Yea, I don't buy the push just for more of Tatum. He's already been shown in marketing, so any women who even bother to let this movie wind up on their radar already know he's in it. Was Paramount hoping for repeat female business based on Tatum's role? Give me a fucking break. This is the kind of movie most guys get their girl to see in exchange for watching one of Tatum's tearjerkers, not the other way around.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

I liked Tatum in the first. And I actually enjoyed Wayan's antics (although it probably helped that they trimmed out a lot of his stuff from the movie).

Against The Host? Doubtful. Ask any woman out there right now about the guy and they all cream their panties instantly.

Dude's a hot commodity and they're going to milk him dry. Wow, that sounds really bad, but it's the truth.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

Look, more Tatum is not the reason this film was pushed back. The fear that the general public would associate it with Battleship is why it was delayed. It was further delayed since they figured they could also bleed the foreign markets over their lust for 3D. Once those two situations caused and increased the delay respectively, the studio saw the time and opportunity to also add more scenes with Channing Tatum since test audiences expressed interest in his having more screentime.

They're trying to make the most out of a bad situation. Not much else to it.

Not no mores. The studio is playing hardball now. They're going to make this the type of flick where there won't have to be an exchange by making women voluntarily come to the theater to check out The Tatum.

Speculative but it falls in line with what I'm thinking:

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hDHxNR0ufsI?version=3&feature=player_embedded"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hDHxNR0ufsI?version=3&feature=player_embedded" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

Yeah, the third point is what I've been saying. He also brings up a good point in his first point about it being uber crowded out there. At least GI JOE doesn't look as atrocious as Battleship did.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

In that video, he mentions how he wishes Paramount would have just come forward and said they know how to make the movie better for the fans. There's nothing about this move which makes me believe that is even remotely related to the reason they are delaying the movie. It's all about the $$$.

Not as difficult as getting it released, it seems.

Don't underestimate the buying power of horny teenage girls and dirty old moms. They want their Tatum fix.
