Plenty of homeless people live long not-so-productive lives. You should be fine. And every so often you get to sleepover with the herpes infested college students that give you the time of day. So it's all good.

If the whole Mayan Dec 2012 turns out to be a true catastrophic event, I myself wouldn't be surprised to have that thought too right before the solar flares burn us alive, "dammit, now I'll never get to see a decent-looking G.I. Joe movie."

well the Mayans didn't account for the Romans and etc to change up the calender so...we passed the Mayan catastrophe a while back.

Well Tatum (21 Jump Street, The Vow, Magic Mike) and The Rock (Fast 5, Journey 2) seem to be on a roll right now, I think postponing this so long will hurt it, if they could have got it in for an August release it would have banked.
Always liked The Rock, and 21 Jump Street got me on board with Tatum so more power to em.

has there ever been anything like this before in Hollywood? a film that was pulled to re-tool simply because in the interim the career of one of the co-stars has skyrocketed?

I don't think this is unprecedented. But I also don't think that's the sole reason why they're doing re-shoots.
