Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

So it's the same CHARACTER (Rex/The Doctor) but not the same ACTOR (JGL)

Yup. Which goes against the earlier claim that it'd be a different character altogether and they'd found "a clever way" to switch them. So at this point, who the hell knows what's really going on with this movie.

All I know is that, although it looks like a lot of fun, the trailers don't reflect the serious re-imagining Chu claimed he was doing (it has little robot firefly bombs, for crying out loud).

Makes me also wonder if the lack of Tatum in the marketing is actually a huge misdirect. I'm also surprised we haven't even seen so much as a frame featuring Joseph Mazzelo. He's not a big name but his casting had been previously reported as if it was to be important that a character as obscure as Mouse was making the cut.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

Was that his name? Rex? Damn..shows you how much that movie mattered overall. JGL did pretty good before he went all "CC" When he was JGL..he was cool.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

Yes, Rex. Which is Latin for King. That was a little joke by Stuart Beattie. It was meant as a wink that he'd eventually become Cobra Commander, whose organization is represented by a King Cobra emblem.

I really liked JGL as the Doctor. But they should not have had him become CC. He should have worked for CC who would then have revealed himself at the end. Although I really can't blame Beattie. He was rewriting a script he didn't even create as the movie was being shot. Heck, in the original script, Baroness spent the entire third act in a coma.

I get they didn't want to use the hood (for a silly reason, really) but I'm shocked they never considered the mirrored faceplate & helmet combo. I also don't get why they switched the rather cool voice JGL was doing as the Doctor for a low rent Darth Vader voice when he became CC.

At least the movie had a great final moment with Zartan in the White House.

Japanese trailer? Can't watch it at work (they keep tabs of YouTube usage). Any new footage or just slightly recut?

that's a pretty badass frontal shot of a helmeted Cobra Commander at 0:51... I don't recall seeing that before.

That's pretty much my only reason to post it. Very nice shot of CC looking all badass. That and the subtitle to the film in Japan is different.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

They photoshopped her chest a bit I see.

While not exactly a great poster, I do approve of showing off CC a bit. Goddamn I'm so excited to see a CC that's a badass..especially in live action. For far too long we've had a wimp CC and not enough of a leader that kicks ass CC.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

That entire poster is one shitty bit of photoshop.

But looking at the cast billing, I find it interesting that they kept the alphabetical order billing from the first movie except for Willis and Johnson who go the "with" and "and" credits respectively. You usually have to negotiate quite a bit for those (much the same way for an "above the title" credit).

actually..could you educate me on that? I'd like to know wtf is the process on the "with" and "and" credits. I remember raising my eyebrow in confusion when Expendables had that.

It's considered a "prominent" credit. That's where you put your big draw. He/She is not the "lead" of the movie but still very much the "star". Similar to the above-the-title credit.

For instance, in The Forbidden Kingdom the lead was Michael Angarano. However, the reason people are drawn to that film are because of its stars who are Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Those two get the above the title credit.

In The Expendables 2 the three big draws are Van Damme, Willis, and Schwarzenegger. They don't necessarily have much screentime (although that's never a given) but they are the "big names" of this movie even if it doesn't revolve around them.

Similarly, Asian markets have a "special guest star/appearance" credit. You see Jackie Chan get this a lot lately. He can have a lot of screentime (Shaolin) or very little (Twins Effect 2) but the credit is still the same because he's the "big name".

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

I dug the trailer for this when I saw Avengers, though probably just because the remix of 7 Nation Army sounded pretty damn cool when it was that loud.

I did like the first, and this looks even better, so I'm excited enough.

Here's a really good post by Ken Levine about credits (this is for TV but can apply elsewhere):

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

Since they brought in Joe Colton, I wonder if we'll get a Jane Ann Martelle (G.I. Jane) cameo.

Yeah, the rules are pretty much the same for both.

I'm actually surprised that Johnson got the "and" credit rather than Willis.

Had tons in 21 Jump Street. Maybe what he needs is to just stick with action/comedy? Maybe he's been working on it? I dunno... it surprised me when I watched the movie.

Yeah, he ruled that movie. I think action/comedy is definitely a good genre for him.

Re: G.I.Joe 2 Coming

I also thought he did pretty well in Haywire. Not as good as 21 Jump Street but still pretty good.
