I understand where he's coming from, but that's two different things. Wonder Woman is a big commodity (to DC), if that bombs that's a big blow (ie: Green Lantern). If Guardians bombs, well, they lose money and maybe the characters are unusable but they can move on.
I also think you can go crazy with the more obscure characters than you can established characters. I'll admit that I railed on MoS, mainly because of my perception of who Superman should be, but that's so ingrained in us that it's hard to separate from the movie. WW is not quite on that level, but is still iconic. Rocket Raccoon, not so much. This is also what made Annihilation and the Guardians in comic form so good; they were largely unused and/or forgotten characters, off in the far corners of the galaxy, and the writers were able to basically rewrite their origins and personalities as they saw fit.
So DC should make a Legion of Superheroes movie next... hey, I'd see it.

So you're saying it's better to leave Wonder Woman as an unused property than to take a chance and actually make a film? After all, if there is no film it can't really bomb.

I personally don't care about any DC super hero outside of Batman.

Just because she isn't cool to you, that doesn't mean nobody likes her. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are DC's trinity*. Plenty of people love Wonder Woman.
*Although in the comic book industry, I would argue that Green Lantern has replaced Wonder Woman in the trinity in the last decade due to the massive popularity of Geoff Johns' work on Green Lantern. Popularity can usually be judged by how many ongoing comic books the character carries. Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern each carry a ton of monthly ongoing comics.

Here's the rub with DC - their best property performs best in his own universe (3 of top 63 grossing movies all time accounting for inflation), and their next 10 or so properties work great as an ensemble.

And after thinking about it, I realize there are a lot of sci-fi movies headlined by a heroine...

I'm a fan of the big two, though I'm more current with Marvel. All it takes is great talent to make something like WW rock. They had Joss Whedon on WW and then he was shooed away. Now Say what you will about his directing but the man did The Avengers. And it rocked, not perfect though it rocked in the overall. They need to take creative risks with creative talent.
Maybe GL was a risk but they sure as hell didn't give GL what they later got with Nolan. Great talent usually makes great stuff.

I'm kind of excited to see Guardians and I never read a comic, if WW or Martian Manhunter were to come out I'd be like, alright whatever. BTW, I'd prefer Martian Manhunter.

If GotG is a big hit, DC will try to go more Cosmic. Can anybody say New Gods or possibly Lobo? Say what you will about the GL film but it did open the door to DC's other worldy denizens. It can be a huge step to something grand. Hell, MoS had some great cosmic/alien moments.
The DC Cosmic CU is already here.

DC/Warner is 10 years away from their "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Ant Man" period if they're lucky. Danny Trejo is currently 69 years old. So yeah, no.

Marvel will be lucky to achieve Captain America's box office from Guardians of the Galaxy. It has no chance of being a monster hit unless they can trick people into believing it is a new Iron Man sequel.

GotG won't make Avengers bank, but it could do some decent business, especially if they keep the ads light and fun.

I am actually really surprised that people seem to be pessimistic about GotG being a success? I think whilst it won't make Avengers money, i can see this hitting $400 million worldwide no problem. From what i have heard and seen it looks like it will have action, comedy, good character dynamics, a different take on the super hero movie (which is a good thing at this stage after the sheer number of comic book movies that have hit over the last 10 years), and a sci-fi tone that will appeal to the Star Wars/Trek contingency. The fact it also seems to have strong female hero and villain parts will help provide a little interest to the female demographic. Rocket Raccoon will certainly be a big hit and i imagine kids will love him. Due to the lack of stars in the movie i am sure costs are being kept down compared to say The Avengers. I think Marvel and Feige are being super smart in the way they are handling their comic book properties. Allowing the universe to grow. I liked the first two Nolan Batman movies (third one was hideous i felt and a real missed opportunity) and Man of Steel was good....but nothing special. But the problem with the DC movie universe is for some reason they have set themselves limits on what is acceptable and they are trying their hardest to make every movie appear legitimately plausible in a real world environment. Part of me likes this, but at the same time it gives them huge restraints and i feel takes away a great deal of the potential fun value that these comic to movie transition can have.

A talking raccoon? I haven't been this excited for a comic-book movie since Howard the Duck!

As said, it has a lot of stuff that could get it bank. Also a fucking raccoon that shots stuff? $$$$$$ I'm sure Rocket will be very popular in a proper trailer, once he has a voice actor. Man, I'd love it if they could just get the current guy voicing him. Him and Groot. They rock.
