That's an actor who has the worst publicist on the planet. The guy is straight-up good looking. How he's flown under the radar of female audiences all these years is shameful. This coming from someone who's very secure with his sexuality.

I don't think this is lighting the box office on fire. The trailers have been underwhelming and a lot of it looks like Hollywood tried to cram their generic sci-fi space angle into a comic book film.
This is coming from someone that owns the entire original run of the comic book series. If it matches Thor's grosses, that says more about its box office competition than anything else.

I give you that, the trailers do all look alike.
Having said that, I do think that this movie will be successful. It's got a lot going for it. This looks like something Del Toro could only dream about making, because he just doesn't connect with mass audiences very well. I'm not saying it will do gangbusters, but it will do well. How well, I have no idea, but if the special effects don't overwhelm the story, it should connect with audiences. This looks more appealing than Pacific Rim, and the trailers promise solid to great action. I'm game.

I disagree that the trailers all look alike, the first trailers was much more quirky/campy while later trailers have a more traditional feel

just to add a little bit of context to the "too scyfy for girls" statement.
I work in an office full of women. I am one of three guys who work on my entire floor. I've gotten them to go see Thor and Captain America with me before and I know at least 50% of them have seen Avengers and X-men. None of them are willing to go see GOTG with me on opening day.
My wife goes to see comic movies with me and generally enjoys them. She also likes Star Wars (not like I like Star Wars, but she enjoys it and will go see it with me when it comes out). She is not interested in anything Star Trek or Firefly and tells me I'm on my own when something like that comes up including Pacific Rim, Godzilla...anything she considers "dorky." She said she ahs no interest in seeing this movie and that I am on my own. I told her that this ties into The Avengers' movies and she said, let me know what I need to know and I'll be fine. No interest.
One of my closest friends who goes to see all of the comic movies with his wife and is into superheroes, but never read comics said he thinks the whole idea of it is dumb...even without knowing what "the whole idea of it" really is.
My sister and brother-in-law are superhero movie fans and her kids like super heroes. They all kinda roll their eyes at a talking raccoon and tree and they aren't planning on seeing it in theaters unless I tell them they should after I have seen it. They said they would just rent it for the kids when it comes out, completely dismissing it.
I have sent these people trailers, gone on and on about how great the comic books are, and said this is like the next part that will be important in future events, but these 10-15 people couldn't care less about this movies and I think they are the demographic that needs to care about this movie to make it successful.
I think all of us "comic nerds" will see it opening weekend, then go see it again in 3D if that is as good as they have been making it sound (i generally dislike 3D but am interested because of the different perspectives they were talking about), but I'm not sure about what happens after that. I really want it to be a success, but i wanted firefly to succeed too.
Maybe if this was directed by James Cameron () people would flock to it...

The problem with women, aside from no shirtless scenes with Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth, is it doesn't do a great job telling potential viewers what the movie is really about. I like the trailers, but I honestly know nothing about the movie based on the trailers.

Also, people who think Rocket Raccoon and Groot are too childish need to learn from the famous quote by C. S. Lewis below.

And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

Ninja Turtles is a long established property. Around 3 decades. Many of these people were young when the first cartoon aired so they are familiar with it. GOTG is pretty much a brand new property unless you are a big comic fan or seen their few cameos in Marvel cartoons.
Frankly if it didn't have the Marvel title before the trailer, most people would think it is just a sci-fi Star Wars type film before they think it is a Superhero related.

Marvel has released the full credited cast list for Guardians of the Galaxy to Stitch Kingdom. They break down the cameos of who's in the movie and who they're playing.
The biggest Marvel "cameo" seems to be....(SPOILERS AT THAT PAGE TOO!)
How the character appears is still unknown. Could just be a comic book page, a jokey mention or something else entirely.

That is the most awesome news from Marvel since they said The Vision was in Age of Ultron, I would love to see more than just a cameo in the future.
