Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015, D: Abrams) S: Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Serkis, von Syd
From the Golden Heart Gala in LA last night:
I suspect a small family of birds are living in Hamill's beard. Not sure if those two are done filming, but principal photography should be wrapping up soon. I read that Anthony Daniels and Oscar Isaac completed their scenes last week.

Cool pictures and interesting rumors. I'm really starting to feel the hype for Star Wars once again at this point which I didn't think I'd say again after so many years of indifference because of all of Lucas' shit. I'm not a huge fan of Abrams necessarily but I'm just so glad that Lucas isn't involved and that we're getting a fresh perspective on the franchise while still bringing back familiar elements from the original trilogy. I think I'm more excited for this than Age of Ultron at this point.

One red flag that is popping up for me is that it might be too similar to ANH.
Also not liking that it looks like we're going back to Tattoine for a sixth time.

I don't mind Tattooine again. I kind of like the concept of some dusty jerkwater planet burdened by fate (or some other higher power) that habitually causes it to play a pivotal role in the affairs of the galaxy.

Don't mind the idea of revisiting planets - hell, they've tried every "atmosphere" of planet so far: Snow, water, jungle, gas, sand that they're probably out of options... as long as the new movies take a darker role, I'll be happy.

I love that Tatooine is this central location in the saga for three reasons:
1. I like that this outer rim nothing-of-a-planet appears to be the nexus of the universe. It reminds me of how the early Harry Potter films seem to revolve around everything happening in the girls' lavatory. Tatooine is just one of those places that collects a wide variety of energies all trying to hide away but get sucked right into it all.
2. And of course, perhaps that energy we call The Force is involved in this somehow. If the Force can be so strong in that cave on Degobah (and I recall there was speculation that's what helped Yoda hide there) is it possible it's the same with Tatooine and that's why Ben and now Luke could hide there? It strikes me that maybe the Force, like greatness, etc. appears in the places people least expect it.
3. Finally, in a film series where the characters could literally fly anywhere in the galaxy, where the heroes are on the run hiding on Yavin then Hoth then simply as a fleet, in a galaxy where whole planets get taken over or blown up, Tatooine is home. Tatooine is the closest semblance to "home" we get in any of these movies and I think that counts for something.

Ugh. No. This series takes place in an entire galaxy and they've returned to this one (boring) planet in six out of seven movies. It is the embodiment of the small-universe problem Star Wars has. It also invalidates what made the place relevant to Luke's character in IV. It was a backwater, "flyover" planet. The whole point was our main character wanted to get away from there, because the galaxy had greater adventures to offer. But whatever; the Star Wars galaxy and it's planets are just as nuanced as levels out of a Super Mario Bros. game.
But c'mon, who's with me and TGM?!

Devin from Badass Digest claims to know who Max von Sydow is playing. With the similarities to the "Star Wars Legacy II" comic, it will be interesting to see if any of this storyline turns out to be true.

The report also claims the Greenham Common location is Yavin IV.

The SW-to-ST comparison shots were hilarious.
