I won't be surprised at all to see the Disney castle logo on The Force Awakens. Maybe even something like that. It's still early, and seems like most appropriate place to premiere it anyway.

They didn't add it to the Marvel Films -- and since Lucasfilm is now another division of Disney, it's not really necessary. I'm more curious if we'll see the Bad Robot logo before the film. I hope they leave it off, but I'm pretty sure Abrams will want it on there considering he brought his whole production crew aboard.

It shouldn't drive you nuts. Like I said before, the makers of these films didn't fuss over this stuff like fanatic fans. They just focused on making very good films. Obsessive fan fussiness is what leads to things like Young Bobba Fett.

Changing the intro music on the original films is very troubling. Alfred Newman's Fox Fanfare is an essential part of the start of the film.

When Universal restored Rear Window and Vertigo they understood why the Paramount logo needed to be preserved as an essential part of the presentation. Disney needs to see the big picture.

Yeah, the Fox fanfare needs to be kept for the old films, but if this is what we get for the new ones I would be satisfied.

I was hoping for something newly composed for the fanfare, in lieu of the Newman one. Maybe when Force Awakens comes out that'll be the case

Well that pretty much cements that if Disney gets around to releasing the untouched OT on Blu-Ray, it'll be without the 20th Century Fox fanfare.

Unless Fox decides they want to do it first...

I don't think the new movies need it, it'd be a nice bit of nostalgia, but we'd get used to it.

How so? Like I pointed out, when Universal restored Vertigo they retained the original, unique Paramount logo. But people at Disney are going to have to realign their thinking.

I like the new music. Though will miss the Fox fanfare.

Has Disney acquired a library of movies before and slapped their logo on re-releases? I'm trying to think, but nothing is coming to mind. It would make sense not to put their logo on a movie they now own, but had nothing to do with making...yet still put it on the next film in the series, which they did take part in making.

Best similar situTion I can think of is how the MGM lion is now in front of tons of films made by UA, Orion, Samuel Goldman Films, and others.

Hrm. That would bother me. It's just part of film history by this point. Just seems cruel to censor/erase the past like that. The film is the film but... if they ADDED their own logo before the whole film as it was, I'd be fine w/ that. It just looks off when studios change logos and whatnot on older films.

Another example I can think of is that currently most of the Kubrick Blu-rays have the wrong logos. Barry Lyndon and The Shining should both have the red Warner logo but it's been replaced with the modern logo.

Can't think of any. Disney never branded any of their subsidiaries like Miramax and Touchstone as "Disney" movies, and I don't think they do their Marvel movies that way, either, do they?

I have noticed that Star Wars toys now all have the Disney logo on them, while Marvel toys don't.

The difference is that no matter who owns the rights to Vertigo and Rear Window, they were and always will be Paramount productions. The only Star Wars film produced by Fox is the original. The others were merely distributed by Fox.

For a long time Universal cut the first 10 seconds of Rear Window so as to not show the Paramount logo, then they came to their senses and restored it because (1) it's how the film was originally presented (2) it featured a custom Paramount logo created specific for the film (3) it was underscored with music written especially for the logo. It wasn't just a generic flash of the studio logo, it was a purpose built element of the film.

Regardless of producer or distributor or whatever, the films' openings are dependent on the big Fox fanfare fading out to silence and then the explosive Star Wars theme. The theme was written to compliment the Fox fanfare. Presenting the film without it is simply doing it wrong. There is no wiggle room and nothing about this issue is open to opinion.

Hopefully this is temporary and Disney pulls their heads out of their ass.

With the current state of the 6 Star Wars films and J.J. Abram's two Star Trek film the opening logo/fan fare is the least of my worries.

StarWars.com will be live streaming some of the Celebration panels beginning Thursday at 10am PST with the Abrams/Kennedy panel (and hopefully the premiere of the new trailer).

Apparently, they're live-streaming about 30 hours worth and Verizon's Twitter feed is going to have highlights available after the fact. For years I've wondered why more of these conventions aren't streamed live, and it looks like someone at Disney was thinking the same thing...it's great for the many fans that can't be there/afford to go.

Did anyone really think the Fox fanfare was going to still be attached?

Actually, yes. There was a guy on that other forum who thought Disney might partner with Fox for distribution just to retain the fanfare.

Hey, you didn't ask if anyone intelligent thought it was still gonna be attached.
