A movie being good or terrible is entirely subjective. You cite the Star Wars prequels and Man of Steel as being terrible, but I personally liked them. Its all subjective.

The subjectivity of being good or bad doesn't matter as far as the movie bombing is concerned. That's entirely based on the profit. If Hokeyboy's figures are correct, then Man of Steel's revenue nearly tripled its budget. Saying it bombed is objectively wrong. Nobody in their right mind would claim something that tripled its budget is a bomb.

Its all about the profit. I mean how do you think Uwe Boll keeps making movies? If any movies could be said to be objectively bad, it would likely be his movies. Yet he keeps making them. Why? Because they are still profitable enough to make more...

I guess we agree to disagree. Only time will tell how well Man of Steel will be remembered. Oh, BTW - Superman Returns holds a 75% at Rotten Tomatoes. Just sayin'...

But again, reviews, even critic reviews, are subjective. A movie being a financial bomb or not has absolutely nothing to do with reviews.

When people refer to a film "bombing"... they're talking about financials.

And look how fondly Superman Returns is remembered lately. If at all.

re: Untitled Superman & Batman Film (2015) (D: Snyder; S: Cavill, Affleck)

The latest about who could play Batman has added some more names to the mix. Wes Bentley, Luke Evans, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ben Affleck are said to be strong candidates. Ever since Zack Snyder announced he would be adding Batman to the story in a Man Of Steel sequel, rumors have been burning up the Internet as to who could replace Christian Bale, who is retiring from playing the dark knight. According to a report from CosmicBookNews DC Entertainment, a source has named the actors who are said to have been offered screen tests to play Bruce Wayne/Batman. The report says one of the spare suits from The Dark Knight Trilogy will be used for the auditions. Another name who was supposedly being considered by the studio was that of Tyler Hoechlin, but the report says he is too young for what Zack Snyder is looking for in the actor who will play Batman. Wes Bentley, Luke Evans, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ben Affleck were the names provided by the source and according to this site, will be doing a screen test for the role. Christopher Nolan has recommended Wes Bentley, says the source. He stars in Nolan’s new production, Interstellar who just started filming. It is rumored that David S. Goyer’s pick is said to be Jake Gyllenhaal, which was the same opinion he had for Batman Begins. Luke Evans has become quite the favorite leading man and recently starred in Fast And Furious 6. He co-stared with Henry Cavill, who will play Superman, in the Greek mythology flick Immortals in 2011. That could be an advantage for chemistry purposes. Evans is currently filming Dracula, in the lead role and will star in The Crow, also in the main role. That could be the only problem in choosing him for the role, a conflict in schedules.

Every single one of those names sounds like a bad idea. But, then, we all said the same about Ledger as Joker, so who knows?

I felt the same way at first. But now I think I'd be okay with any of them, except for Affleck. My only thing is that they want an older, more established Batman, but are any of them older than Christian Bale?

Was that confirmed or a rumor? With these kind of high profile projects, who knows what is true.

As for the picks, I agree, they're all good save for Affleck. Just no. Fine director, so-so actor unless he's a supporting player with a great screenplay (see: Good Will Hunting).

Don't. Even. Joke.

Wasn't his name bantered around before casting Bale in Begins.

I could be wrong, but I thought Snyder came out and said that this would be an established Batman with at least a few years under his belt. And if that is the case, I think it'd be weird to have an actor who is younger than Bale. Although I can't come up with any older actors I'd pick the role, I'm terrible at fantasy casting. Having said that, I'd like to see Guy Pearce as Harvey Dent in the new franchise.

Heath Ledger was known as a great actor though. Bentley is the only one of those guys I like as an actor, though I'm sure some people like Gyllenhaal. I'm close to thinking they're crafting these releases to make me cool with Bentley.

I mentioned Wes Bentley a couple weeks ago. Good to see he's on the official list. I think he could pull off Batman.

Never seen Bently in anything aside from Ghost Rider and the Hunger Games. I recently saw Hunger Games though. Was he the white guy that Katniss had to aim the arrow near to get his attention?

I can't stomach the idea of Jake Gyllenhall as Batman. He is about as intimidating a presence as Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Future beard. Takes quite an actor to rock that 22nd century chin strap.

Ah. Is he even an actor worth giving a damn about?

I'd argue he has a comparable resume to Bale when he was cast: as a kid Empire of the Sun vs American Beauty, period novel adaptation Little Women vs The Four Feathers, villain in campy movie Shaft vs Ghost Rider, weird notable role in lead up American Psycho vs Hunger Games.

No more than most. He's never done anything tremendously noteworthy. I say that as a guy who dressed up like this for Halloween last year:

I dunno, when he was yoked up for End of Watch, he seemed pretty intimidating to me.

i would go with a relatively unknown for Batman/Bruce Wayne. Much like Henry Cavill. But someone who brings the gravitas that Batman eschews. i think Cavill was ideal casting and Snyder should work his magic again for the next role...

I didn't really have much of an opinion on him when he was cast. Aside that he was a solid actor.

IDK, other than Gyllenhaal, Bentley and Evans aren't terribly well-known amongst the general population.
