Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

Dollhouse - The background story arc interests me, but the 'episode of the week' nature of each episode's main plot bores me to tears.

Supernatural - Plan to catch up on DVD at some point, but as for the new episodes it's in the worst possible time slot for me.

Desperate Housewives - Gave up somewhere in the season Dana Delaney debuted. The characters all began to annoy me.

Smallville - I've quit this show at least three times only to come back at the next season finale/premiere. The last time (about 2 and a half seasons ago) it stuck.

I rarely give up on a show. I stick it out 'til the end. However Heroes is testing my patience. Depending on Chuck's renewal, I'll give it a few episodes next year to make it earn it's keep as a season pass show.

I also have both seasons of Burn Notice on my DVR because of all the hype. I watched 2-3 of them and am not sold yet. I'll give it a few more before I dump 'em all.
Burn Notice got off to a shaky start, it took me a few eps to get into the groove of it, and to realize the occasional cheese factor is part of the reason it's so enjoyable.

Reality check, Heroes just ended it's third season. You guys gave up shortly after season 2, not 3.
Yeah don't give up on Burn Notice yet. There's actually a really interesting long-term story arc on who burned Michael that continues into season 2. I still thought the caper of the week aspect was pretty fun as well.

Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

Next season, I'll be trimming a few returning shows, or relegate them to super-low priority:

Heroes - nuff said

Grey's Anatomy - floundering

Private Practice - finally the ick factor was just too overbearing by season's end.

Fringe - I may see if it got better after the first handful of episodes via hulu or Fox.

Ugly Betty - went from likable lead character to just dumb lead character

My Name Is Earl - low priority viewing nowadays

Medium - sort of gave up on it last season, but checked out a few episode this season, but couldn't get back into it anymore.

Lie To Me - quit watching after 4 episodes.

I'll finish up these ABC shows over the summer:
Pushing Daisies
Dirty Sexy Money
Eli Stone

Shows that gave up on me:
ER - watched it to the very end.
Prison Break - once the next series finale and 2-hour movie air, I'm done.
Scrubs - I'm iffy if it gets brought back without Zach and Judy.
Terminator/SCC - probably won't be back.
Dollhouse - probably won't be back, I was lukewarm to the show anyway.
Chuck - hope it gets brought back, even on another network.
Privileged - canned, but I'd watch it if it returned (but the lead is on another pilot)
Reaper - doubt it's coming back.
Life - canned

On the fence with:
Brothers and Sisters
Desperate Housewives
Parks and Recreation
The Mentalist
90210
Gossip Girl
One Tree Hill (if it returns)
The Celebrity Apprentice

I'll be back for more:
House
Dancing with the Stars
Castle (if it returns)
24
How I Met Your Mother
The Big Bang Theory
Two and a Half Men
American Idol (depends on the talent level)
NCIS
Bones
America's Next Top Model
Better Off Ted
Lost (gotta see the last season)
Survivor
CSI: Las Vegas
The Office
30 Rock
Southland
Smallville (I'm a glutton, I know, but it'll be its final season)
Supernatural (also final season)
Everybody Hates Chris
Dexter
Mad Men (if it returns with the writing talent)
Breaking Bad
True Blood
The Amazing Race

Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

I've all but given up "24". I saw the first 8 or 9 episodes then fell behind. Now I have about 10 recorded (I think I missed a couple) but I have no desire to watch them. Maybe during the summer reruns.

"Prison Break" - stuck with it but glad it's ending

"Supernatural" - I still have last season's finale and every episode so far this season recorded and unwatched. I enjoyed the show and will probably try to watch them all, so I guess I haven't given up on it yet, it's really just a time slot thing.

"Smallville" - I quit at the beginning of Season 5. I thought the first 2 seasons were great. Caught part of an episode the other day and couldn't believe they were still beating the same dead horses.

I'm glad I never got into "Lost" (2 episodes),"Heroes" (1 episode), or "Sarah Connor" (6 episodes)

Patman:
One Tree Hill is returning for a 7th season. However the only cast members signed to return as of right now are Jackson Brundage and Bethany Joy Galeotti. The rest are currently in negotiations.

I may go the same route since the CW seems hellbent on driving this show UNDERGROUND by adding additional seasons when they were supposed to end it. May hang on for one more since I'll definitely be watching the final season of Supernatural

I made it through 3 episodes and just didn't care.

+1 S3 was trash. My DVR screwed up two episodes, and I just quit. But I rented the Blu-ray and caught up. Glad I returned because S4 was pretty damn good especially since they are definitely ending the show.

I didn't mind that (I liked it actually) until they recently started treating the patient as an afterthought or merely some poor metaphor for the ridiculous relationship melodrama they've invested in so heavily this season.

Heroes - I watched the first five minutes of season 3 and realized that the show is incredibly boring. I don't miss it one bit and wish NBC would cancel it in favor of Chuck.

House - Already summed up my feelings on this.

Survivor - I've always been hot-and-cold on this show. It seems like people consider this season noteworthy, but I have no interest right now.

Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

Desperate Housewives - It was already beginning to be a task to watch, but Edie's death did it for me. I've stoppsed watching even before the season finale.

I'm on the fence about SVU - what bothers me most about the show now is that they are all about A-list guest stars that overshadow the storyline, not to mention the fact that whomever the special guest star is is without a doubt the culprit. That's what really irks me about it. The TV spot will say "guest starring Carol Burnett" and I immedidately say "well, Carol Burnett is the killer!"

Heroes is tiring to watch as well. It's a chore to make it through those episodes.

Monk jumped the ship IMO several seasons ago. I am glad that it's beginning its final season. Maybe they will go out with a bang with really good episodes. I'm hoping that the writers wrote the final season many years ago and were saving those episodes to tie up the series.

I was at work and forgot Bones and Dexter from my never give up list. Credit goes to Patman for jarring my memory by posting every TV show currently on the air .

90210
I know, why on Earth did I even start it? Girlfriend made me but I just can't take the crap.

I'm sticking with Heroes until the end no matter how much it sucks!

I think I am almost done with How I Met Your Mother. There are good bits in most episodes, but the basic premise of the show of Ted's meeting the mother of the kids is growing old. How LONG exactly is this story he is telling his kids?

Heroes after Season 2, which was a complete fucking waste of time.

My Name is Earl. Got tired of idiot Randy.

Others: Nip/Tuck, Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen, Kings, Sarah Connor, Pushing Daisies, Reaper.

Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

The Office. Great show for about the first three seasons or so then it took a huge dip in quality in my opinion. Tried to hang in there and watched all of season 4 but about midway through the fifth season I just couldn't take it anymore. Sold off all my seasons to a coworker which is something I very rarely do.

Monday Night Raw. Like others haven't not really giving up on it but taking a break from. I still catch it here and there but lately it seems like between work and school I just haven't had time for it. Maybe now that school is ending this week I'll start watching more regularly.

Law & Order (all). I like the show when I see it but its just not appointment tv for me like it was at one time.

Pushing Daisies. Canceled now but I got sick of it during its first season. The show is very nicely shot but overall I just got tired of the premise after about 4 or 5 episodes.

Psych. This is one I'd like to get back to but its another one that always seems like I don't have time to watch.

Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

The only shows I watch are: 24, Heroes, Fringe, and Lost. That's it.

I'm going to stick with Heroes, it may jump all over the place but ehh

I've tried watching "The Office" on a weekly basis but for me it just seems like it's better when I can rent the dvd and watch the whole season at once.

I'm barely hanging on. I basically watch it out of habit and I am starting to FF through boring storyline scenes (which are the majority of each episode). I watched the latest episode in about 15-20 minutes.

I gave up on Prison Break and My Name is Earl before the current seasons started.

I agree that the basic premise was dumb (and it was a weak point of the show even in the beginning) but I like that the show and the characters have evolved out of that initial concept. At this point, I don't really care if Ted finds his wife (I've always thought he was the least interesting of the cast anyway).

I tend to give up on shows when I fall behind and/or miss a few episodes and don't want to bother to find alternative means to catch up. So I stopped watching stuff like Fringe and Friday Night Lights with the intention of catching up when they come to DVD.

This also happened with Smallville some time ago, but I never bothered catching up because of all the complaints it was getting.

Re: Recent TV Shows You’ve Given Up On.

I'm alarmed at how Smallville has rambled on and on and on for so fucking long, what with the vacant plotting, equally vacant headed cast members (Michael Rosenbaum excepted), and dwindling viewers.

And yes, the sharks and vultures have really been circling Heroes since somewhere in S3, it has creatively tanked faster and harder than any of David E. Kelley's shows. It seems like a lot of creative effort went into its first season, but they've been heavily recyling since then, getting more blatant and annoying.
