Either he was considered a special case and they ignored the end-of-year thing, or maybe Don Knotts and Darren McGavin died too close to the show to give them time to assemble clips, so they'll instead be in next year's retrospective.

hence why Crash won - thanks PopPit for reiterating what I felt what happened to the majority of the Academy members votes and why they chose to shaft 'Mountain'

I thought the Ben Stiller skit was tacky, and just plain bad.

the ABC HiDef broadcast was great - however the montage about 'movie theatre experience' some of the film snippets looked horrible.

I don't have time to read this thread now but I will make a couple of quick comments.

Weisz was excellent but I'm sad Amy Adams didn't win. She gave probably the best performance out of all the categories.
Witherspoon was outstanding, as was Hoffman, so that's good.
Crash is waaaaaay overrated. The acting categories were of a much higher overall caliber than best picture, I think.
3-6 Mafia and that song are absolutely terrible BUT their acceptance speech was so funny and endearing that I can't help but be happy they won. But really, that song is very very bad. Is this penitence for not nominating Fight the Power?
Stewart did a great job, I thought. The first few moments were rocky but he recovered tremendously and had me rolling quite a few times.

I think John Stewart should have ended the oscars with "Good night, and good luck". So, I'll do it myself. Good night and good luck everyone. See you tommorow for more reaction.

P.S. Jessica Alba looked way too skinny. You know she probablly starved herself this last month and probablly had one of those colonic cleansing procedures or whatever the hell they call them.

Yes! Her performance in Election was great, in a movie that is, IMHO, as close to being a perfect film as it gets. It's just a shame that comedies always get overlooked.

Sad...but this will be the reason for everyone who felt CRASH shouldn't have won. GREAT story in Brokeback...just a piss-poor delivery. I can't imagine how awful it would be to have ta hide your love like that. But what a poor vehicle to get that message across.

A couple of observations--

You could play 50 hip hop 'songs' in the place of that one and not know the difference.

Anyone want to bet that a month from now these guys will be in the 'where are they now file', replaced by the next hip hop 'star' (that will sound just like these guys).

That guy with the diamonds in his mouth! $100,000 worth!

Wow, there are a lot of big stars who want to look cool with their vote.
You may wanna stick to talking about things you know about. I'm no fan of Three 6 Mafia, but they've carved their own niche in the industry and have been around (and popular) for quite a few years.

Another great slip: The red dress hostess on E just referred to Lindsey Lohan's work in Herbie and "Parent Crap"

I don't think he was in the actual IN MEMORIAM montage, but he did have his own - well, because, he was a great director.

Yeah, and Chris Penn died in 2006, and he was in there. I call shenanigans!

Biggest pimp of the night is Morgan Freeman for hanging with Paz Vega. Just saw E!'s after Oscar coverage, and they had them and Steve Carell (and his wife), and Steve is still in awe of Morgan, even though he's the star of Evan Almight, and Morgan's just playing God. Funny stuff.

Someone who was walking in before the show said that there were protests outside. That just HAD to be them. Stupid people crack me up!
