So Crash wins it...Interesting. I havent seen it as it looks like something I would loath, but maybe I'll rent it to see. To be honest, the only best picture film I watched this year was Brokeback and although I thought it to be a decent movie, was never really sold on it being best film. Stewart made the show watchable for the most part, and the Three 6 Mafia was priceless. I actually like the song, just liked it in the movie much better. Im glad they won though, because one, it made the night much better, and two, I thought those other 2 songs pretty much sucked.

Crash definitely affected me a helluva lot more than BBM did and stayed with me much longer (which is to say it stayed- period)...and that's coming from a gay white boy.

I thought Jon Stewart was freakin hilarious! To me Jessica Alba won the most stunning award. She looked flawless. Selma Hayek (?) was a close second. How sexy is she? Wow.. And Jennifer Gardner almost wiping out was pretty funny. She recovered nicely though.

I agree the pimp song was good, and I dont usually enjoy rap, but I'm not surprised it won. I liked the Crash song, but it wasn't great, and the Dolly Parton song was horrible. Why is everyone so surprised it won? I just wished I could have understood their acceptance speech though! Just because it doesnt speak to you, doesnt mean it isnt music! Honestly, aren't we passed that?

Crash is a very powerful movie... It is riveting. And I think it appeals to a much broader range of people since we all have felt some of those emotions in the film.

Thought the award show was pretty good. I fell asleep much later than I usually do, so I had me a little longer than usual.

The sampling of the Bomb Squad and the other best hip hop producers (i.e. not Diddy) is an artform and is hardly different than musicians taking their influences and reconfiguring them into original music. How many guitar players slightly change Jimmy Page licks and structure a new song around them? How many drummers steal rhythms from jazz and funnk greats and build new beats on them? Hell, how many older plays did Shakespeare use as templates for his own stories? Fight the Power may be built on samples but I bet you can't listen to it and name all the sources. Because an artist used them as raw materials and built a new collage. The "No samples" rule is actually just an interpretation of the "original song" category. Someone determined that a certain percentage of the song must be original, as if such a thing can be measured and as if a song like "A Whole New World" or "My Heart Will Go On" is actually "original" and not just the same schlock that always gets played in movies. It's all crazy.

Wasn't this movie already made with more A-List talent fifteen years ago helmed by Lawrence Kasdan? Crash is a fluffier Grand Canyon:

Grand Canyon revolved around six residents from different backgrounds whose lives intertwine in modern-day Los Angeles. At the center of the film is the unlikely friendship of two men from different races and classes brought together when one (Kevin Kline) finds himself in jeopardy in the other's (Danny Glover) rough neighborhood. Features an all-star cast including Steve Martin (Kline' friend), Mary McDonnell (Kline's wife), Mary-Louise Parker (Kline's mistress/assistant) and Alfre Woodard (Parker's friend).

Oh yeah - thought Stewart was good, though admittedly he started losing steam. I think the producers were pounding on him to keep things on time and he had to cut stuff he wanted to say.

Also, thumbs up to Stephen Colbert who obviously collaborated with Stewart on a lot of the jokes (not to mention doing the voiceovers for the fake TV commercials).

I thought the Ben Stiller skit was tacky, and just plain bad.

the ABC HiDef broadcast was great - however the montage about 'movie theatre experience' some of the film snippets looked horrible.
I hated the "Non-HD" clips, I could not believe what I was seeing. This is the Academy Awards show and that can't show everthing in HD.

This could also be Hollywood pimping "People need to go see their movies on the Big Screen". Everything the showed a movie clip that we should see in the theater, was a movie that everyone would go see because it is a qaulity movie, not the junk they expect to see just because they put it make it.

Don't waste your time. He's obviously one of those small-minded people who grew up with a certain kind of music and is convinced that's the only kind out there.

My favorite was the whole idea of the package being based around how people need to go see movies in the theaters and yet they show the altered E.T. footage from the DVD release where the agents had radios instead of shotguns. Really? Cause that's not how I saw it in the theater.

I just laughed when I saw the walkie talkies. Even my mom noticed them(I've told her about them a long time ago) and was like "oh, brother".

Why is everyone making this into a Crash vs. Brokeback thing?

Out of what was nominated, I thought Munich was the best film.

While it very well could have been the god hates **** people, someone protests every year regardless. This year, I know there is people that were upset with the foreign film "Paradise Now" being nominated.

I wouldn't have had a problem with any of the other films winning. It just feels that they went with the safe bet with Crash because it delt with race than going with Brokeback that deals with gays which is more controversial at this point.

P.S. I felt that Munich was a really intense film that was a masterpiece from Spielberg. It was more about how human beings are flawed as a whole than taking arabs or jewish sides. From what I had heard about it, I thought they were going to portray terrorists as freedom fighters or something. I did not see that.

Ratings numbers are out and this telecast was the second least-watched telecast in Oscar history behind 2003's show with Chicago
