Red Wedding would be a great season 3 finale/season 4 opener

First review of Dance with Dragons, mild spoilers:

Even ostensibly disillusioned fans will be caught up in the interweaving stories

That would be fantastic (though I would really feel bad if they canned it on that cliffhanger).

The comment today about how Ned should have had Stannis and Renly sit down and sort out who gets to be king killed me

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Given the success of the series and the notoriously long wait between seasons of HBO shows, I think they should commission Dunk & Egg movies to tide us over between seasons. Who's with me!!!?!?

Hell yes! At least some quick animated movies. Though, is Egg sort of a spoiler? I can't recall when you find out who he is in the books.

BTW, has there been any news on making a Graphic Novel for the 3rd story?

The first Dunk and Egg story reveals that he's a Targaryen prince named Aegon, and in Game of Thrones, Maester Aemon reveals to Jon that he was the brother of King Aegon. I'm not sure Martin ever explicitly connects the dots, but if you think about the timelines and Aemon's age, it's pretty obvious.

Yeah, I just couldn't remember when Aemon makes his reveal. (not that it's a big spoiler)

It's when Jon finds out that Robb is marching to free Ned. But even if it were in Book 2 (or later), there's nothing that would lead the uninitiated to assume that the Aemon who shows up in the Dunk and Egg stories is the same Aemon who's on the wall.

Then again, they changed Robert Arryn's name to Robin, so maybe in HBO's version of Westeros, nobody is allowed to have the same name as anybody else.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

I've only read up through A Storm of Swords, though I have A Feast for Crows I had a hard time getting into it. Now with the series, and the new book, I'm getting motivated to read the series again. Is Winds of Winter Book 6? And has GRRM given a firm number of books for the whole series yet? I thought I remember him saying 7 but that was well before even Feast came out.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Keep in mind that the series was originally supposed to be 3 books, then 4, then 5, so even though it's currently 7, it wouldn't surprise me to see it grow to 8 or 9 before all is said and done.

OK, I confused myself a lot here, I guess I was really off on this and they are just brothers. I don't know where I got that from.

I just hope he doesn't pull a Robert Jordan before the series is finished! I'm actually compelled to finish reading this one. Assuming HBO continues to order new seasons, I wonder if they'll catch up before the books are done...

Tonight's episode makes me wonder how they'll handle Whitebeard. Maybe keep him in a helmet until it's revealed who he is?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Long hair and a beard? I don't think he'll show up until almost the end of the season and with the amount of new characters next season I'd bet a lot of people forget about him.

So are they going to leave out that it was Sansa who ratted out her father's plan and just leave the audience thinking it was Cersi and Littlefinger?

Speaking of Sansa, I'm really disappointed that it looks like they are going to leave out her relationship with the Hound. I thought that gave a new layer to his character and showed he's not the monster Gregor is.

Somebody will remember -- even if not here, somewhere on the internet. Plus, if they put Ian McElhinney's name in the credits, it's a dead giveaway.

Agreed totally -- I was so disappointed when they had Littlefinger tell Sansa the story of Sandor's face being burned. It made no sense to me.

Hopefully we'll see the Sansa/Sandor relationship develop next season.

D&D/Brian Cogman has said that they will be exploring that relationship.

Cogman also I believe stated why he had littlefinger tell the story as well, it was in some interview.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season #1 - SPOILERS thread

Oh and Robb's first episode where he was kind of the focus was great, they need to build up his character more so there can be a emotional connection with him before the Red Wedding.

I'm trying to remember, but How did Ghost know that there was a white walker touched dude in Mormont's chamber?

In the book his room was right next to Mormont's and he could smell/hear/feel it up and about.
