Got mine this morning at Target. Went to a different Target during lunch & they had tons of them. They were sold out of Lumines & didn't have Untold Legends or Tiger Woods. I ended up getting Wipeout (& some screen protectors) & it's pretty cool, but I suck at racing games so I'll need lots of practice I guess.
I hope they put out some good RPG's for this thing. Games (& movies) look amazing on it.

wow.
well I think the problem the PSP will have is that portable gaming is most popular with kids. I know...I know...that there are alot of people on this board who are older and love portable gaming, but that is not the majority of the population. Most kids or their parents will buy a Gameboy Advance or DS because the games for it are targeted more toward kids, and is a heck of alot cheaper. The PSP is targeted toward the older gamer generation which as a majority are NOT interested in portable gaming. I know that if I bought one...I would play it for a couple of weeks then I would put in on my shelf beside my Gameboy Advance and it would gather dust, and I would get back to playing my console. For most adults...that will be the case.
My opinion -- If the PSP would have launched at $185.00 like in Japan, and you didn't have to buy all this bundle crap --- it would have sold 10 times as much.

well my wife picked me one up on her lunch for an early birthday gift. as far as she could tell it looks ok but she's no pro at looking for dead pixels. I'm not either for that matter. is there an easy way to tell(particular screen) or will I not see them without 20/20 vision?

I bought one and it had more than 5 dead pixels - I exchanged it, and same deal. So, since I was totally deflated, I just got my money back.
I'd like to get this eventually - I think I'll wait for either a price drop, or unitl they address this "dead pixels" thing. I've had a bunch of LCD monitors, and never had this problem before.
Are we getting Japan's rejected screens?

I have a preorder at EB that I will be canceling because I picked mine up today at BestBuy. Their buy 3 games get a $20 gift card deal steered me their way for games anyway so I bought a PSP while I was there. When the opened at 8:01am there were only about 30 people waiting and the guy handing out the tickets said they received 310 of them.
I picked up the PSP, Lumines, Darkstalkers, Ridge Racer and Wipeout Pure. I haven't tried Wipeout Pure yet but Ridge Racer is awesome as expected. I haven't really gotten into Lumines yet.. I mean it's a simple concept and the music is nice, I just haven't found my groove or something with it yet. I'm a big fan of Capcom 2D fighters so I knew exactly what to expect from Darkstalkers. The control issues I expected given how most people said QCF, QCB type moves were hard to pull off consistently and it's true unfortunately but I think I'll have a good time with it anyway.
I didn't notice any dead pixel or dust issues so I downloaded those dead pixel test images and as far as I can tell I'm a lucky one; I still couldn't find any dead pixels! My DS has a single dead pixel (which I know Nintendo will replace the screen on) that doesn't bother me much.
I'm very impressed with the unit overall and think that Sony pretty much has a slam-dunk product here with the PSP.

Got my PSP this morning at EB.
Showed off the Spider-man 2 movie at work and everyone was bowled over. A couple even wanted to go get a PSP at lunchtime!
Played Lumines at lunchtime and that game is mesmerizing. Before I knew it, an hour was up. Superb game! Also picked up NFSUR and Untold Legends. Was never a fan of Wipeout nor Ridge Racer.

Yup, I was at Best Buy and ToysRus today and they had PLENTY of PSP systems in the stock. Game screenshots look so so (sorry, can't say that games look like a candy to me) but I'm excited about movies for PSP. So, can anyone please post a picture (more pics would be cool) of SPIDER MAN the movie. Is there any special features on the disk? Thanks!

Wow, Sony shipped a buttload of PSPs. Went by Target and Wal Mart and they had still had a huge stack of them. Definitely no reason to pay for an expensive bundle preorder if you don't want to. I was tempted, but I'm still going to wait awhile. Hopefully, the dead pixel thing is not going to be as wide spread as it looks. Even one can be annoying, but 5 or more is just unbelievable.
With the Sony Clie's Sony would replace the screen if you had more than two stuck pixels. If they are refusing to replace any of the dead pixels screens on the PSPs then I am very dissapointed in Sony. I hope that is not true especially if the screens are showing up with mulitple dead pixels.

Went to the Bestbuy here near Los Angeles at 7:30. Didn't figure there'd be that much of a crowd, since I've been checking boards all day and not many people on the East Coast said they were crowded. There was a long line of people, and I was number 87. So I started thinking cool, the hype wasn't wrong, there is demand for this. Apparently, the guy in front was waiting out there at 2:45 in the morning.
Unfortunately, being at Best buy influenced me to spend money on two things I wasn't planning on getting:
1. 39.99 for the two year replacement warranty. I figured, hey, if some buttons get stuck, it's not like a console where you just replace the pad. We'll see how much I use it, though.
2. 39.99 (ten bucks off) for the Pelican set of accessories. Included a bunch of stuff, including 4 x UMD cases, a screen protector, a crappy looking case (which is still better than the sock), earphones (why?), a USB cable, and an external battery. I guess I needed most of that stuff to tide me over until more accessories are out, but the one-day-only coupon made me bite. The BB employee tried to get me to buy a screen protector until I looked on the back and told him it was already included...
Anyway, since I was so far back in line, they ran out of Ridge Racer, and for some reason didn't get Twisted Metal. So I picked up Wipeout Pure, Lumines, and Metal Gear Acid (which I hope to trade back in for TM). Also had to get them to apply the "Gamepro" coupon which isn't really in the Gamepro magazine, they just take it off at the register (if you remind them).
I got out of there around 8:50, so it took almost an hour. So I go to the nearest Target to see if they had Ridge Racer (they don't, their game selection was pitiful). No line, nobody waiting, at least 30 of the systems are there.

another observation....is everyone worried about if these PSPs are going to hold up??? I mean I have read SEVERAL posts from people on this board that they have gotten one with dead pixels!! I mean some even returned it and got another one with dead pixels. That is kind of ridiculous considering all this happened just with the members of this ONE online message board. Have they been having technical issues with japanese PSPs?

I understand if a pixel goes bad later in the screen's life, but if its dead out of the box, the manufaturer is at fault and MUST be held accountable.

People griping about the price reminds me of when the iPod mini was announced and people said it would not sell. I think it is going to sell like hot cakes. Everyone one who has seen at work today has been amazed. My only grive is the lack of a hard drive. I would have paid 50 bucks more for a 4gb drive.

IMO the price and the dead pixel issues are pretty much non-issues. Even if there were some extras available they will be sold out before the weekend. Sony's goal is to shift 3 million units by the end of their fiscal year and at this price they'll be able to. It's painfully evident that the machine is far superior performancewise than the DS and thus is worth more money. Plus the price you're paying now includes the price of being an early adopter.
The dead pixel thing is also overplayed. Best buy said they will take the console back within 30 days for any reason so I'm not worried, That IGN poll is also completely skewed because the people who are unhappy are posting. Still sucks if you got dead pixels that you can actually see while playing a game.

Looks like only these launch games are online compatible:
Twisted Metal, ATV: Offroad Fury and four of the Sony sports titles:
NBA, Gretzky NHL and MLB.
http://psp.ign.com/articles/594/594772p1.html
Weird that the Sony soccer title isn't!
Also a shame that the EA sports titles aren't online compatible!

Heads up for peeps who want to watch movies on PSP
Can anyone try this? Totally legal and SAFE way to transfer movies to PSP in MPEG4 format.
http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-11721-1725-x-x-x
Your feedback is much appreciated.
Still, nothing will beat the quality of the original UMD movie disk.

Seems to me a pretty common practice to have a dead pixel count and it has to be over that, else it is not enough to be ruled defective. I know with apple lcds it's like 10 dead pixels, less is considered fine. Which is a reason I would never buy one.. (YES, even fresh out of the box dead pixels, it's considered an acceptable possibility of the manufacturing process)
I bet Sony will have to enforce a similiar stance, so you 1-2 dead pixel people should feel lucky.. (I would be po'd too though)

You need to format the memory stick then you will have an option for the photos. Copy the photos into the photo file then you can view them. You will need a mini usb cable to connect to your computer. I had one with my Sony camera that worked fine.
