Got it at 12:01 at Blockbuster. Real nerd fest there. Average age == 27. 8 males. Average about 40 lbs overweight. I was the only person not wearing a black t-shirt or black trenchcoat.

Anyway, they were all discussing Lumines and were pissed that only one copy of Untold Legends came in.

I got:

PSP
Ridge Racer (never liked wipeout)
NFL Street
THUG2
Lumines
Pelican Screen Armor (HORRIBLE -- DO NOT BUY)
Intec "Starter Kit" (Bought for screen overlay -- may return)

I have to admit, the system totally blew me away. My screen has a dust spec problem between the screen and the glass (in the corner, thankfully), which sucks, but the thing has surpassed my expectations tenfold.

I really hated PSX and PS2, so I am amazed at how awesome this thing is.

Only complaints: memory stick door comes open during gameplay, shoulder buttons feel fragile.

Spiderman 2 video quality was pretty impressive.

I think that these will outsell Ipods 3:1 this Christmas. I hope Sony can make one for every 12-24 YO male in the USA in time. This thing might actually steal Xbox2's thunder.

Okay, just unpacked mine. Can you play it right out of the box on the AC adaptor or will that screw up the battery before its fully charged?

If youre worried about that, you can play with the AC adapter in and the battery out. It should be fine though.

Also, for the pelican screen armor, did you get the plastic one or metal one?

I've got the plastic one and dont see the problems everyone seems to have with them.

I waited in line for fours hours at the local Wal-Mart but it was well worth the wait. This thing has really blown me away! After setting my date, time and nickname, I was ready to play NBA Basketball. As I was playing the game, I couldn't believe this was a portable hand-held game I was playing. You will have to see this thing in action to believe how good the games looks and plays on it. If you have been thinking about getting one, run to the nearest store or mall before they all get gone. I'm glad I got mine tonight and won't have to fight the crowds in the morning.

I was in and out of my Wal-Mart in less then 15 minutes, and there was a milf buying one too. Never thought i'd say MILF and Wal-Mart in the same sentence ever.

The system rocks, i was shocked at how awesome Ridge Racer looked. It has skyrocketed above and beyond my expectations and i can't wait to play some more!

I had a PSP tonight. 3 of them actually.

I got my first system home and the screen head dead pixels. I took it back and after trying out 2 more faulty systems I said screw it. I returned it and the rest of the stuff I bought for it will go back tomorrow.

While messing with the system at home I realized how good thing really is....but with all the problems already I can see myself paying for this system and having even more problems down the road. My wife let me take part of our vacation money to buy this and to be honest I'd rather go away and use the money for something more fun then spending 3 hours at Wal-Mart trying out PSPs.

I hope everyone who has one that works enjoys it. I just packed up my original GameBoy today...maybe I should unpack it and just use it again.

Picked up mine today at a local Blockbuster with about 6-7 other people. I have 11 or so games; look forward to playing ALL of them tonight!

Picked mine up at Meijers at Midnight. Went to my truck to try it out and found it had a couple of stuck pixels (always white). Immediately exchanged it for another that has a good screen.

The thing is great so far, but I wish they hadn't made the entire face so shiny and scratch prone.

Well, I picked up my PSP at Blockbuster around midnight. I checked it out after charging and I seem to have pixel problems. I'm not really familiar with bad pixels, since I have been fortunate up until now. What exactly is a dead pixel, anyway? I see about 6 spots that are barely noticeable in anything other than complete black. From what I can tell, they usually stay white and can be mistaken for dust. But there are two dots, one red and one white, that are brighter than the rest. I see them everywhere but the green home screen.

Anyway, someone mentioned about Blockbuster not having extended warranties. Would I be able to get an exchange (stock permitting)? Fujishig mentioned that CompUSA sells warranties even if you didn't buy it there, can anyone confirm? I really love the PSP and I could live with the pixels if I had to, but I'd rather not. What can I do, short of sending it back to Sony? Any help would be appreciated, because I am one sad panda.

Can someone tell me how big the game save files are? I know it's different for every game but I would like an idea on how much memory I want to keep.

I picked up a PSP at Wal-Mart this morning (I am sooooo weak). Gotta work today, so I'll have to ignore the shiny new toy for a while.

Out of curiosity, I stopped by Target on my way to work. I got there around 8:15 AM and asked a clerk about the PSP. He said that they got 80 of them in and had sold 2 so far. He said that when the DS came out, there was a line outside the store at 6 AM. I was really tempted to pick one up, but decided not to since I've already got a plan in motion to get one from a freebie site. So very tempting, though...

Has anyone else made an early trip to the store today? What's demand like out there?

I haven't gone yet, but demand will be big enough in my town. This is a university town, so demand for any new game system is decent. But, it is also never so big that I've needed to be in line, etc. PS2s sold out at midnight at our Wal-Mart, but were readily available elsewhere in town in the morning, so I am guessing this will be the same. Our Gamestop didn't open at midnight for the PSP, which shocked me. So I could be wrong about demand here all together.

I've been on the fence about rushing out, but I think I am going to wait. There are only a couple games I'm looking at and want to see what opinion on them is first. Since I'll use this mostly as a gaming system, I need to know there are more games I want. But, I am not too worried about finding one once I decide to go pick it up.

Phew, glad i'm 25 then.....that is why I didn't buy one

Also, I don't think this will factor in on XBOX2. I mean, one is a handheld, one is a console.

Where do you people play your handheld games? I mean if it's in the house, doesn't that really defeat its purpose? I mean an XBOX or a PS2 should have better graphics and fun factor than a PS2. I personally would rather play on my 55" TV rather than a 5" screen

Where were you with your voice of reason when I was spending $350 this morning?

That's pretty much what I've been thinking. "When am I going to play this?" I think I'll be sitting on my couch right in front of my plasma that has an Xbox and a PS2 connected to it.

But the screen is so gorgeous and it has that 'new electronics' smell.

Well, I pulled up to Best Buy at 7:55 and was 30th in line. There were more people waiting when the GBA SP launched . Maybe it was the 8:00 thing. Anyway, kind of a letdown. Since I preordered my system at Gamestop, I was just looking for games (because of their GC deal and the $5 coupon) and accessories. I was on the fence about going that early just for games, but it was a good thing i did: what good is having 256 systems in stock if you have like 10 copies of the "high demand" games? Grrrrr. Plus, no Tiger Woods, no Untold Legends - I was fortunate that some lady was waffling on buying the last copy of Lumines and set it back down for a second. Thank you ma'am! Also, there were like 25 employees there, so at an almost 1:1 employee to customer ratio, they just kept hounding each person about the service plan, the accessories, etc. One guy in line finally said "so you're telling me that the system sucks, so I need the service plan. The battery life sucks, so I need a power brick. The screen is hard to see, so I need a visor and screen protector. Are you trying to talk me out of buying one?". As a final kick in the teeth, they kept saying "we don't have the $5 coupons, it will be automatically done at the register". I just looked at my receipt, it mentions the $5 coupon, but it comes up as $0.00, so there was no coupon actually applied (this happens a lot with BB, for some reason). So i'll have to go back and get that fixed.

And finally, my gamestop didn't even open early today, so i still have 21 minutes to go before they open and I can get my system!!

Woe is me. This is the tracking on my PSP:

Your package is in the UPS system and is on time with a scheduled delivery date of Mar 29, 2005.
I ordered Lumines through Amazon, since I had $20 in credit there, and it hasn't shipped yet.

I plan on stopping at BB after work to pick up a game or 2, but it looks like they'll have a poor selection, if anything at all. I've got $20 in RZ credit I want to use there.

I am in class right now, but in about 10 minutes, I will be heading down to the mall the mall to pick up my PSP.

Now I just have to hope that:
1. Ridge Racer showed up in FYE's shipment last night
2. EB still has some copies of Lumines left, and
3. I don't end up with dead pixels.

Damn you all! I cancelled my pre-order a few days ago since the $500 bundle price seemed too much at ebgames. Broke down and went to my local Best Buy (South Austin) this morning at 7:40. I was ~25th in line and there must have been around 50 people in line. They had 250 in stock so they should have more left. They had all the launch games in ample quantity too. I got Lumines and Ridge Racers. Was going to get Wipeout because the reviews have been good, but I've never really been into the Wipeout series. Total cost was $350 with a $10 gift card and free reward zone membership which sounds useless according to people on this forum. Way better price than my $500 ebgames pre-order.

So question about Ridge Racer: The back of the box says "Wifi: Ad-hoc and infrastructure" so does this mean you can play it online with people across the country? None of the reviews touched on this so I was curious if anyone with a US copy can verify what the infrastructure setting means.

I've been a little underwhelmed by the reviews in terms of their content so far. None of the sites mention enough detail regarding load times or wi-fi performance and options. Kind of annoying.

Anyway, I'm at work now so I may go play at lunch. Toodles.

What part of NJ was the target? I cant get to stores until after work. I didn't pre-order because I didn't know if I wanted to spend $. Is it only a bundle target was selling?

My decision will come when I get to a store and see the box.

Has anyone had any luck finding the memory stick pro duos (any company) at b&m stores? When I talked to sales clerks about them, I got:

"I don't think we'll carry anything like that. That sounds like the camera department."
(Thanks, but the camera department doesn't carry them, and I figured you'd stock up JUST because these go with the hot new product you're excessively hyping.)
or
"No, it comes with the memory stick."
(Yeah, but what am I going to fit on THAT?)

Moorestown. It's in South Jersey. Seems like Targets in general might not sell out too quickly, but I'm sure it depends on where you live.
