I believe the only difference of duo and duo pro is speed of transfer.

I went into a GameStop today to take advantage of their DVD sale, and while I was there I asked if they had any PSPs in stock. The guy said he had four still in stock, that are not pre-orders. The odd thing however, is that he said the entire staff has been telling people interested in a PSP to hold off on picking one up until the next production run. I suppose it might just be my area, but he said of the ones that they personally got in stock, as well as all other video game stores and retail stores in the area, since he knows many people that works around here, that the majority of the PSPs had some sort of fault with it. Have it be a high number of dead pixels, more than just a single piece of dust under the screen, or whatever. He ever said that just in his store, about 4-6 of the PSPs were shipped to them without the battery even included in the system/box.

It might just be my area, but every store I've talked to personally have reported problems with the launch, with a great number of returns and exchanges.

Any idea on when the next production run for the PSP will be? I have no clue how that works.

Yeah, the ONLY thing you need to look for is the word "DUO". Whether is says pro or not (although I believe the pro are better) it will work with the PSP if you see the word "DUO".

Speaking of memory cards...
Circuit City has a pretty sweet deal on the 512 name-brand Sony Pro Duo Stick.
$69.99 after instant savings and rebate.
They also have free shipping on the Stick.

Hmmm, I wonder if he's just trying to keep a few in stock for expected returns.

I have no clue, but it was very odd. I did like the fact that he came out and told me of the problems with the PSP without my even bringing it up. Most people working in a store like that wouldn't do it. Also, the guy I'm talking about here is the manager.

Notice the price for the 128 and the 256

BTW, that ecost deal I mentioned above for the sandisk pro duo sticks, they do have free shipping on an order of $25.00 or more. For the heck of it, I put one of those sticks in my shopping cart and went through the checkout process to the very end to see if I was going to be charged tax or not, and I was not, HOWEVER, they were going to charge me 5.95 for stinkin HANDLING. Grrrrr

I'm curious if anyone else has been hearing what I have at Best Buy. First, one of the employees assigned to the PSP table has been talking about the future editions of the PSP (next one supposedly with a built-in hard drive). While I could see this happening, I haven't seen anything, so I am curious if rumors have been around or not.

More importantly though, is I was told that their 2-year replacement plan can be used for more than just replacing a broken PSP. "They" (presumably managers or corporate?) have said that PSPs can be brought in if the customer is not happy with it for any reason within the plan time. The voucher can then be used on a PS3 or other Sony product. Or, should another version of the PSP come out and the customer want it, the PSP can be brought back under the plan and upgraded for the next version (obviously there'd be a cost difference, so price of new PSP minus $250 voucher).

This all sounds too good to be true and alleviates some stress for me in buying one. So, while this feels like nothing more than a sales pitch, is anyone being told this? I've never heard of a product replacement plan being so flexible, which is why I'm in major doubt. But then again, I tend not to buy them.

Honestly, that's not really that great of a future lineup. All I see of intrest is Hot Shots, NBA Street, Death Jr., and maybe Infected. And as not to turn this into a DS thread at ALL, there are alot of titles coming out for that system.
What about GTA, MVP??!?! At least PSP has at least 2 decent titles a month released...plus an amazing launch. Lets leave the DS talk out.

Man I would buy two of those 1GB sticks for 67 bucks if they had them in stock.

Played quite a bit of Lumines and THUG Remix today and I couldn't be happier. I'm not regretting this purchase at all though I still want a 1GB stick.

Crossing my fingers for Sony to release some more PDA features and maybe a Web Browser and Email. I've given up hope for Nintendo to come through with something truely cool like this for the DS, but Sony has experience as a PDA maker so they may add some of that functionality to the PSP.

There are several titles I'm looking forward to in the next few months for both the DS and PSP. I'm seriously thinking my consoles are going to end up with very little use the rest of the year.

Yeah, I was drooling over those 67.00 gig sticks too. Did you sign up for the "Back in stock alert"? Just give them your e-mail and they will let you know when they get more in!

yeah, I signed up, but I'm sure that when they get them back in stock, they'll have figured out the pricing mistake.

This took me forever to figure out, but all you have to do is make a cross design with the blocks. Seems this puzzle mode is just about making design patterns.

Cool game overall, but the difficulty level is a bitch. This is really a game aimed for puzzle experts. I'm just too casual a puzzle gamer to really get the full fun out of the game. I hate the fact you have to play through the same levels over and over till you finally unlock a new skin. They should definitely shuffle them up so you don't have to be replay the same stuff for hours to see something new. You have to get to level 100 to unlock all the skins and I have yet to break level 22 after hours of playing. The VS mode suffers from this also. You have to start from the beginining every time through. Once I clear a character I want to skip him the next time. It justs takes too long to unlock anything in this game after the first 8 or 9 easy skins to get.

There is just too much repeat of the same shit over and over. This game is loaded with cool skins and music, but most people that buy the game will never experience more than a few of them. Bad game design in my opinion. That kind of stuff might work in Japan where people will play a game like this for days straight to master it, but I'm just looking for something to play for 10 or 15 minutes every once in awhile. Shuffling the levels up would not be too much to ask for IMO.

I'm definitely leaning towards trading this one back in for something else.

Some cool stuff going on. Check out the "Latest News" links:

http://www.psphacks.net/content/view/124/2/

Read the Memory Stick Hack to Use Non Duo Sticks such as the 4GB Pro.

It will be interesting to see if there will be any 3rd party design for implementation or will this be perceived as an infringment by Sony similiar to Microsoft's stance on mod chips albiet not detrimental to circumventing software copyrights.

Here's a make shift e-book solution:

Easy enough to figure out if your so inclined:

Most likely, if a retailer is telling you that you should not purchase one, they are trying to keep them for themselves. Stores are meant to do one thing, sell you stuff. Whether that stuff is good or crap makes no difference to them as long as you buy it. That guy probably had a few friends he was saving them for. Otherwise, he might just be the stupidest retailer ever.

There will be another version of the PSP... in 5 years. Don't forget, Sony is moving towards a 10 year life for these products. Once the PSOne hit 10 years on the shelf, that meant that every product they had could do the same. PS2 will have 7 years as the top dog before PS3, and then spend another 3 years as a bargin system (as PSOne did until last year). This PSP will stay in its same form for atleast 5 years before any changes are made. Nintendo may give you a new system every 2 years, but Sony doesn't have the cost avantage of selling at a profit.

You will see a PSP with a hard drive one day, but only when prices come down. Mini hard drives are really expensive. I'm talking about the 1" ones mind you.

Lumines is a pure puzzle game. You are never supposed to beat the game, it is just supposed to get harder and harder until it is not humanly possible to beat. Shit, I thought I beat Dr. Mario, but they just came back with Level 21 which is just harder than Level 20. The problem with Skins, is that they can not be randomly generated. They have to be prerendered. So, the developers had to develop enough skins, and make it hard enough, where it is not possible to unlock all the skins unless you are super-talented at the game. If everyone can beat a puzzle game, its no longer a puzzle.

Played Lumines today....WOW! What an amazingly addicting fun game! I also tried out Tiger Woods and wasn't all that impressed. I guess I'm not a big fan of the swing control using the analog stick....maybe its because I'm just so used to Hot Shots 3-button swing meter. The load times between holes and pretty much doing anything are annoying as well. I may be taking this one back and wait on Hot Shots.

I get that, but there are like 40+ skins on the game. Why not make 30 of them attainable by the average gamer and hold back 10 or so for the experts. Instead most of us will get 10-15 and never see over half of them. What is the point of spending all that time prerendering the skins and arranging the music if 90% of your audience never sees them anyway? I just find it dull to have to see the same skins over and over every time I play when I know there are 30 other ones to choose from. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if it was fairly quick to get through a level, but its not. It takes quite a while just to get to level 20 and I would rather not spend 200 hours unlocking skins on this game.

Actually, I'm no longer worried about it anyway. Since the PSP links to the PC I will just download the save file with all the skins unlocked and play it. I know there are people out there that are masters of games like this and I'm sure they will post their save files on Gamefaq when they unlock everything. Then I can just play single skin mode with any skin I want.
