I like my WiiU, but if they kill it early I don't think I'll ever buy a Nintendo non portable console at launch again.

If by "interesting" you mean retarded click-bait. It's opinion based on nothing. He hears that Nintendo's working on a project and with zero research, jumps to say they're killing the U as if it's some statement of fact. Rubbish.
Still, they do need more good games on the thing, to lower it's price AND get the proper word out, then the units will start to move.

n00b question. How secretive is Nintendo about upcoming releases? I'm a little worried that beyond MK8, Smash, Bayonetta, X and a couple others there is just nothing on the horizon. Even Gamestop only list 7 titles for coming soon.

Extremely. Unconventionally, Nintendo revealed a metric ton of stuff in January 2013, including several games we haven't seen so much as mentioned offhand since.

Here's everything we know for sure is coming from Nintendo at retail, 1st/2nd party-wise. There could be more beyond this, but these are what we've been told about:
  • Some sort of NFC game (Pokemon? Animal Crossing) - to be revealed at E3
  • Zelda U - to be revealed at E3
  • Bayonetta 2
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • Super Smash Bros. U
  • X
  • Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
  • Yarn Yoshi
  • Mario Kart 8
  • Sonic Boom (not sure if Sega or Nintendo is distributing, though)

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

With all these game delays, why not just release a powerhouse of a system while also integrating the GamePad functionality? It just seems like a lost opportunity. It's like Nintendo got lazy and thought people would just buy a Wii U on brand recognition alone. Yeah, that was a mistake, since so many Wiis just sit around collecting dust, so let's make a sequel. Brilliant.

I think it's just a sign that nintendo doesn't really know what they're doing when it comes to the internet. They could have free advertising just by posting an advance list of what they're releasing each week!

If I were developing for Nintendo, I'd be wary of making any product with "shovel" in the title.

Take it for what it's worth, but something interesting has popped up on Walmart's website.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U (Working Title), a Nintendo console exclusive, is a pre-release general action game to be released in Q4 of 2014.
More information is on the way! Check back soon!

Hopefully that's just a placeholder price! Also hopefully everything else is legit.

What are some Nintendo franchises you'd like to see dusted off for the Wii U, or are you looking more for new IPs?

(Asking in a conversation starter way, not as a "how dare you?!" kinda thing, so don't get the wrong idea. )

Waverace & F-Zero. Give me a Kid Icarus on a God of War scale. Metroid makes all kinds of sense with the tablet doubling as the visor over yet another Zelda. I was never a huge Starfox fan, but at least that would be something somewhat fresh. Eternal Darkness should have been revived by now to attract some of the core crowd. They could also pony up for a Beyond Good & Evil 2. Ubisoft isn't doing anything with it. Same for Mirror's Edge 2. That is a very stylized game that wouldn't have a graphical edge on the PS4 or X1. It'd work great on the WiiU. None of these last 3 would be hits on their own, but they'd build a solid library that suddenly makes the WiiU more attractive to core gamers wanting a second system.

Hell if we're going to the Zelda well yet again, blow everyone away and make Zelda the protagonist. That would get my attention.

Re: The Wii U: From "cool" Sony to evil Nintendo

I'm into all of those ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Although I have nothing but nice things to say about the quality of (most of) the games Nintendo is releasing, they've gotten to be very conservative with their choices of franchises and the general style of gameplay...trying to reproduce hits rather than create new ones. Some of that's necessary, but I wish they'd be a little more adventurous with some of their first party titles.

Didn't they list Luigi's Mansion (the 3DS Game) as a Wii U title as well? I don't bother with the place holder-stuff. Sometimes it's just a way to fish traffic to their website.

Either that, or give us a Zelda with the scope/detail of something like Skyrim.

That would be insane.
