How do you know if a DVD is in stock or not? Do you get a message after you've submitted the order?

When you put it in your basket it and view your basket it will tell you if it is on backorder.

When you add it to your cart, if it doesn't say "backordered" underneath the item, it is in stock.

During the last sale, they "upgraded" my shipping to UPS from USPS, even though I was shipping to a PO Box. Not only did my order get returned to sender, half the stuff I had wanted was then backordered (while it was in-stock originally, having placed my order around midnight the first day of the sale).

To make matters worse, when they reshipped it to my work address, they didn't put a delivery name on the packages. And because a lot of items were backordered, it came in four or five boxes. Now, my company has over 2,000 employees in this location, and an entire mailroom. When they get stuff with no name on it, they just open up the box to see who's listed on the billing address. So over the course of several weeks, once a week I'd get an opened up package from DDD with a "sorry" note from the mailroom.

And I *STILL* haven't gotten the copt of "Good Will Hunting" that not only never showed up he first time, but that they claimed to have resent and never showed up the second time. For under $10, I just figured I'd take my loss on that and quit calling and complaining.

(Sorry for the complaining about something that happened several months ago, but the poster mentioning UPS vs. USPS reminded me of this nightmare...)
I once ordered a wireless router from bestbuy.com and had it shipped to a PO Box. But they chose to ship it out by UPS instead. When it arrived at my local UPS distribution center, they flagged the problem at the tracking webpage but later in the day was able to associate the PO Box with my home address and delivered it there. I still couldn't figure out how they were able to look up my home address

Agreed, the copying and pasting is what takes up most of the time. The actual program took me all of 5 minutes to write up. As for the wildly different postings, I just parse each line, and the last '$' it finds is the price, so it reads what's after that. I'm sure this wouldn't work quite the same if you were parsing the thread directly, as people post their total price paid, and what not. Good luck if you decide to do it. I'd be interested to see how close our numbers are, as I know mine probably isn't entirely accurate.

Does anyone know if the first Robocop movie available at DDD for $9.12 is the version I want to get? I understand there's one that's edited and one that's not. Not sure what this one is.

http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/dvd.cfm?itemID=MGD000565

Also not sure if I want to just get the first one or go for the trilogy. I remember the second one was OK, but don't remember the third well at all. Having just the first may be A-OK for me.

So far, in R1, the unedited version is only available in the boxset or on the long OOP Criterion DVD.

I'm pretty sure the Unrated Robocop is only available in the boxset or the long out of print Criterion.

EDIT: Yeah, what he said!

You sure? I googled up a site saying the unrated director's cut runs 103 mins, which is what the listing at DDD says for Robocop 1. According to the site, the R rated theatrical cut is 102 mins.

It's on this page: http://www.sciflicks.com/robocop/facts.html

If you look on MGM's site, it also shows 103 minutes, mainly because they round up. MGM's site also shows this is the R rated cut.

This sets up the dilemma for me.

Do I get the one movie I want, and spend less, even though it's not the uncut director's cut,...

... or do I spend more, get a second movie I'm lukewarm about and a third that's as good as a blind buy, just to get the uncut version of the first one?

Are the differences significant enough to warrant buying the trilogy set? I've most recently and often seen the original and Robo 2 edited to death on TV runs, so even the unedited R version is going to be a big improvement.

I don't know if this will help you, I'm pretty sure the "edited" Robocop is the US theatrical cut (which had some cuts to get an R rating). The longer version has some extra juicy bits that weren't in the release here. If you look at IMDB they are mostly closeups of wounds, along with one scene that is extended by about a minute.

Spoiler:
The most extensively cut sequences involves the murder of Peter Weller's character, Murphy. The director's cut is almost a full minute longer. It shows Murphy's arm being shot off (cut completely from the R-rated version), more elaborate shots of Murphy writhing in pain as the tugs shoot him, and also includes an elaborate tracking shot that shows the back of his head exploding into the camera when he is finally shot by Clarence Boddicker. This shot is especially missed because it made use of a fully-mechanical prosthetic Murphy built by make-up special effect artist Rob Bottin. The unrated director's cut also includes a longer shot of Murphy's hand being shot off and the camera lingering on his reaction and his stump.

Pleasantville

I asked this in the first sale thread but it was closed soon after so Im sure no one saw it...anyhow, Pleasantville has apparently been rereleased in a keep case....anyone know if DDD is selling the keep case version yet? The site says keep case, but that doesnt necessarily mean anything.
